Are there any news on Android 7 Nougat for Shield TV?

I'm really looking forward to the USB TV tuner support. Unfortunately I cannot find any information on the update for the Shield while the Nexus Player already got Android 7.1.

MAMEdroid on Sony Bravia. DualShock4 can work?

I just installed MAME4droid 0.39u1 on my Bravia X800D running Marshmallow 6.0.1. Copied some roms across to the correct folder and they're found, looks promising so far.

Paired a DualShock4 to the TV via bluetooth and then tried to start mame up. In default input mode the left analog stick works to move up and down in the mame rom list but no button seems to work to start the game. Also tried using the remote and plugging in a keyboard via USB, no luck.

Is there any way to get this working? If necessary I can buy a generic android controller (iCade ?) instead of the dualshock 4. would like to get this working and it's so close... frustrating !

(also have a PS3 controller if there is any way to make that work)

Problem with DHCP and static IPs Mi Box

Hi everyone

I got my Mi Box from Walmart a month ago, up till yesterday everything was going amazing. I absolutely love this device, but it started behaving strangely today.

My house network is 10.0.1.0/24, I have a DHCP server and all my devices are working perfectly, but today my Mi Box starting getting the IP 10.0.1.254 and stopped getting internet access.

I tried setting a static lease for the Mi Box, but it still got that IP. As a sanity check, I set static leases for other devices and they worked flawlessly. I rebooted the router, and rebooted the Mi Box many times but it still got that same IP and no internet access at all.

I tried setting the Mi Box a static IP, but every time I tried to connect to the network, it said the password was wrong, even though I was already connected to the network when I set the static ip.

Has anyone had this problem? Is it a known issue with a workaround?

Mi box (USA) No sound, system, kodi or any tv or audio apps

I woke this morning to my mi box behaving this way.

No changes had been made, but no amount of fiddling would correct it it, until i did a factory reset.

Has anyone else experienced this?

MiBox Netflix casting issues.

So I am not sure if this is a known issue.

I got the MiBox on it's launch day from Xiaomi directly for my girlfriend. She lives with a roommate and they don't share their netflix so the cast option is very important to her(absurd but whatever lol).

So for some reason she can't cast to the mibox unless she is signed into netflix app on the mibox itself. Is this a known thing and is there any way around apart from getting a chromecast itself?

Is there a way to integrate/view network websites that offer episode streaming (ie. MTV or Comedy Central)?

I often can't find a TV show or episode through my Android TV apps or Kodi, but I can go online to the network website and see the episodes available for free streaming. Is there a way to integrate these streams into my Android TV or Kodi so I can stream them on my TV rather than via web address on my computer? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I didn't realize I could just cast it to my Android Box. However, if there are any integration options I'd still love to learn them. Thanks.

No Google Play 4K on Shield TV?

4K hasn't rolled out to my account yet so I can't test this myself, but all of the articles that mentioned compatible devices omitted mention of the Shield.

I can't find it now of course, but there was a reply to a post somewhere here in Reddit in regards to the supposed Shield TV 2 that said something like "hopefully that one will be compatible with Google Play 4K" or something like that.

Are there any Shield owners with a 4K TV that can shed any light on this? It seems strange to me if this true. The Shield may be two years old, but it is the most powerful and capable box available by a longshot. Seems weird if Google is really shutting us out.

live channels guide size

Am I the only one that thinks the size of the guide in the live channels app is too big? It takes up the entire screen. There's no way to watch TV and scroll through the guide at the same time. The antiquated cable boxes do this and I'm pretty sure the original GoogleTV did this too. Is there any way to make changes to the size of the guide?

Am I the only only who has a terrible experience frequently with Kodi?

I have a Nexus Player and a Shield TV, both have Kodi and SPMC installed.

I have a Qnap NAS with all my files on it and have Kodi linked via NFS. Most of the time if I click on one of my folders Kodi freezes up and I have to use the home button to get out of it. Then if I go to apps and Kodi there is no option to force close. If I do manage to get a file to play usually about 45 secs in the picture will freeze up but the audio will keep going. When this happens I have to reboot my device and try again. Usually I end up giving up as this happens almost every time.

The same thing happens if I try to use Exodus. Both Kodi and SPMC are doing the same thing on both my Nexus Player and Shield TV. Is this common, or does anyone know how to fix this issue?

Repeated App Activation

I don't know if this is where I should be asking this question.

I have a Sony 55" XBR850D. I missed most of The Simpsons marathon on FXX Network, so I installed the FX Network App and activated it via my Charter|Spectrum account. Everything was cool.

I stopped watching - turned everything off - I come back and turn everything back on and try to resume my Simpsons episode. When I open up the FX Networks App it says I'm not signed in, so I click sign-in and it tells me I need to go to fxnetworks.com/activate and enter the damn code in again.

...and again, even when I just exit to TV for 5 mintues

...and again.

Please tell me that this isn't normal behavior. Am I really supposed to have to go through the Activate process every time I want to use this goddamn FX Networks App? Thank God, I have my laptop right next to me tonight...but I won't always have it next to me -- so I'll have to walk over to a computer each time I want to access the content available thru my FX Networks app?

Any ideas or suggestions? If I should be asking somewhere else, let me know...I'm not trying to spam sub-reddits.

Casting on Sony TV is subpar compared to Chromecast

Man, I just picked up a Sony Android TV with 5.1.1 on it and I have to say – casting to this thing kind of sucks compared to an actual Chromecast. It's so flaky – sometimes it'll connect and then drop straight away, or it'll connect but stop playing music, or it'll just disappear off the network entirely as a casting device. What gives?

The other thing I'm annoyed about is that Android TV has no way to set your own custom backdrop images like a Chromecast does. I expected it to show up in the "Home" app (previously Google Cast) like all other cast devices so I can configure the backdrop photos. Really disappointed.

New Update for my XBR-55X850C (2015 Android TV). Not sure what's new, will update post with anything I notice.

The website still shows the firmware from back in October. I suspect it will add support for the newest DualShock 4 controllers, but not expecting too much more. Anyone else get this installed and know what's new?

Edit:

It's the Marshmallow update 6.0.1!

Things I've noticed:

  • After first reboot, I was promoted to set up Interactive TV. I'm a cord-cutter (don't have cable or over-the-air television) so I disabled it.
  • New option in Settings for Interactive TV Settings.
  • Fonts system wide are different, thinner and sometimes larger.
  • Volume meter is different font, now a thin white bar and the meter is not centered, but rather in the lower left (odd, hope this gets addressed, seems wierd to be in lower left).
  • Sound meter now goes to 100, think it went to 70 before, is no longer 2x the value displayed in my soundbar (might bug me for a while til I get used to it). Only the display of the sound meter is different, values are actually the same as before.
  • Wallpaper on home screen is different, a brownish gradient pattern, same with the Sony Select app (which I usually disable).
  • Default background for HDMI inputs when there is no content is now a solid, neutral gray.
  • "No Signal" warning messages when no input is detected when on an "input" are in different font and have a transparent black background, smaller overall popup and further in lower right corner.
  • Action menu updated, slightly new theme (black transparent background), a bit more responsive, different sounds when cycling through options, no new options though.
  • New permissions prompt on bottom 1/4 of the screen, uses the Android greenish theme.
  • Some apps are way more responsive, like MX Player Pro (I can skip through videos much, much faster and even the subs show up as I skip through the video; it didn't do this before)
  • Security patch level is not October 2016
  • This update adds a ton of new emojis, not sure how useful on a TV unless you use Twitter or similar.
  • Improved voice search functionality and recognition.
  • Can now control which apps provide top recommendations on the recommendations row (not sure if that was new, but never noticed it before).
  • I think it's the same boot animation, so doesn't seem to be a change there. Boots much faster though it seems.

Keep in mind, Android 6.0 and 6.0.1 were more about performance, bug and security fixes. Still, glad to have this update! This update was supposed to add "adoptable storage" as well: When adding an SD card, USB drive or External HDD, it should recognize it as "internal memory. Will have to test this later.

I will also update if I notice anything different with using my PS4 Pro in 4K on this with the new Android update.

That's all I've noticed so far.

Problems with Mi Box 3 + Ultra HD titles on Netflix

I am in Canada and purchased a Mi Box 3. I am having a lot of issues with the Netflix app that I can't figure out.

I believe that all the titles that are offered in Ultra HD do not load (the message on screen says the title is unavailable). This happens regardless of if the Mi Box is set to 1080p or 4k. The standard HD titles seem to load fine.

Does anyone know what might be the problem? I have tried everything - hard reset on the Mi Box, reloading and rebooting Netflix App, etc.

Any ideas would be great!

Eliminate Confusion over Xiaomi Model Naming Conventions Numbers matter, ignore words....

If you want an OFFICIAL Xiaomi AndroidTV box, you must verify the model number is MDZ-16-AB. Any descriptive terms are meaningless and open to interpretation, mostly by sellers who lack English language prowess. A simple question to pose to the seller is to provide a picture of the sticker from the device in question.

The ONLY Xiaomi device that supports official AndroidTV is marked as MDZ-16-AB and is labelled as such on the cardboard outer box and on the actual device.

This is the ONLY box pertinent to this AndroidTV reddit!!!

Xiaomi's designated marketing partner in the USA is Walmart.

Here's where the confusion starts....... There have been at least 5 other Xiaomi models offered over the last 2 years that are based on the same small, black box.

These look-alike boxes carry Amlogic chipsets ranging from S905, S905X and S905X-H, with memory components from 1/4GB to 2/8GB. 4 of those models are created for the domestic Chinese market and have exclusively Chinese language menus and Xiaomi's customized fork of Android, not official ANDROIDTV designed for the US market.

There have been 2 recent devices introduced to the Chinese domestic market in November Please refrain from using ambiguous terms like "International version", "Mibox 3", .

Any hope of Flux/Nightshift similar feature in Android TV?

I just noticed Apple TV has nightshift as a feature and it is tempting me to switch to Apple though I prefer Google. I really would like this on Android TV. Is there any hope of this coming to Android TV? Has anyone found a good workaround? I tried rooting / install CF Lumen a while ago but it was very buggy rooting my NVIDIA Shield TV.
