Android N Developer Preview 3

Hello guys,

As stated android N has been posted for the Android Tv and I personally decided to give it a try! First time I used it there were a few audio issues that were fixed when I folled back to stable builds. But I never had problems besides.

Now however it seems that theres a lot of lag from user input. Not necessarily the device but when I push a button on the controller there is a lag between that device and it, also the controller is consistently being disconnected from the device.

Anyone else able to report?

NVIDIA Shield for Playing My Videos

I've been trying to find a reasonable response, but a lot has been about apps and gaming. I've got a WDTV box and a semi-dumb TV with some USB ports, but there are connectivity issues intermittently between all of these devices which are a few years old.

I've recently been thinking about picking up a Shield TV for playing videos on my home wifi network (streamed from my desktop) and/or videos from a USB external hard drive. What apps would do this? Should I just wait for more VLC support?

Thanks for the help... and sorry if this gets asked a fair amount.

Nothing worth mentioning from Google i/o ..

I'm quite frustrated with Google not showing any new development or improved experience in IO. They are putting less focus on TV and more in Chromecast. Is android TV having the same fate of Google TV?

Xiaomi Announcement?

Was Xiaomi referring to Android VR, instead of Android TV that many of us were hoping for? The symbols look like the Android VR controller.

Edit 1: They are one of the first partners for Daydream.

Question with regards with wired Nvidia Shield TV game stream.

Was wondering if it an Nvidia Shield TV can stream 1080p games on a Powerline since my router is not 5Mhz WiFi

If so, what kind of powerline should I purchase to make sure that it will smoothly stream 1080p games into my TV

Thanks!!

Got a discounted Forge TV bundle as an Ouya backer. Cannot recommend it at all.

The problems with it are pretty well-documented on this sub, so I won't parrot them. Really, all I wanted it to do was run Kodi, and maybe a few Android games like Towerfall.

But it doesn't even get to that point. It just reboots.

Took it out of the box, plugged it in, set it up with wifi, let it take forever to update... and then it just reboots when I try to use it. I can't use it longer than 2-3 minutes before it suddenly reboots.

So I RMA'd that unit. After they received it, I got an email saying they ran out of return units (?!), and they offered me a discount code for the purchase price so I could order a brand new replacement, which I did.

Then that one arrived and had the same god damn problem the first one did. I complained to the support guy about it, and got no response after a week, so I'm just returning it and calling it a wash.

Can't recommend it.

Casting broken?

Casting appears to be broken on my Shield TV. It doesn't show up in the Google Cast app, or any others.

Im flashing back to January... Maybe El Goog's screwing with stuff before I/O?

I wish it still supported miracast... I used to use that as a fall back. Looks like I'll be plugging my trusty ol Lemonade Chromecast into the TV.

UK & Ireland on demand app development?

There is a BBC iPlayer Android TV app available for the Nvidia Shield TV, but I have not been able to locate native versions of the following:

All4, ITVHub, Demand 5, RTÉ Player, 3Player, and TG4.

Versions of these apps for regular Android exist, and they can be sideloaded, but using a mouse or game controller stick to navigate these does not appeal.

  • Do versions of these apps exist that would work properly on the shield, perhaps sideloading Sony Android versions, if that is even possible?

  • Is there a complete list of Android TV apps available for all regions somewhere? Browsing to the Google Play Store link for same does not provide this.

  • Anyway to check if native versions of these apps are in development, or to request them?

*Just to add, Kodi is one of the main reasons I use the Shield, there is a well working ITV addon for it, two BBC iPlayer addons, and a half working Irish TV addon. Unfortunately, even the ones that work properly cannot compare to the experience provided by the GUI of a full featured regular Android or Smart TV app.

Should I switch to SPMC or keep on keeping on with Kodi?

I'm kind of lost on what to do. I have both installed and they both seem to work as well as the other. I'm getting ready to set up Kodi a little better for my needs, but I'm wondering if I should switch to SPMC at this point?
