I searched XDA and did many Google searches, but have yet to find a method to root this device on 6.0.1 that seemed reliable; all the most recent posts on XDA seemed to show users having issues rooting or the root guides are outdated and were written for 5.1.1.

I've been a Nexus phone owner since Galaxy Nexus and am quite experienced with rooting, but I haven't had a need to root my Nexus phones in a while and I have never rooted my Nexus Player. Are any of you rooted on the newest 6.0.1 Fugu build? If so, how did you do it?

The only thing I want root for is to enable adb over network. I also have a Sony Android TV and this option to enable adb over network is right in developer options. I can't understand why this isn't on the Nexus Player, which is an Android development device. I don't want to have to hook my Nexus Player to my computer in a different room every time I feel the need to use adb. If there's a way to enable adb over network on the Nexus Player without root, please let me know. Any way, I thought this would be the right place to ask.

I ordered a few boxes that I'm looking to customize and change. I'm having a hard time finding out where to get started. I've reviewed youtube videos, but I still don't know.

1. How can I go about making an image / backup of my android TV so that I can clone it on other boxes or restore it if I end up doing something wrong.

2. My apps came preloaded, but they are in a different language and I'm looking to get the best androidTV platform. Where do I begin?

Hey guys, is there any way of pairing the echo to start the to on command? Like "alexa turn on tv". I sideloaded if app but the android options are so limited. I know you can using harmony hub but im try to do this using an app

Hey, my wifi does not play well with my shield tv. Every now and then I need to reboot to get it working again. So I wondered if just turning the wifi off would work, but it seems like the wifi settings on Android tv don't allow that.

Is there an app for Android tv or something I can sideload to expose those basic Android functions? Or would this require root because Android tv does not expose these function at all?

all the ones i have seen with GB Ethernet seem to run android 4.4, i would prefer the latest 5.# with leanback launcher

Hey all, in the end i went out and got a Nexus player, and im happy with it, runs kodi perfectly, just need to find a micro USB ethernet adapter, i got this over the shield and forgetv as they are not available in australia and it would have cost me a minimum of $350AUD to import one, and then get an adapter for the power, until maybe androidTV picks up the nexus player is damn fine for $130AUD, thanks for all the helpful comments guys!

It's just weird how stand alone chromecasts and ps4s have it no problem, but if you combine the two, you can't have it.

Does anyone know how to use Google's Live Channels app instead of the default Sony one or YouView?

Did anyone have any idea how long does it takes Asus to send a new one or repair it? And did anybody who returned it to RMA had to pay for shipping it back(No return label). I bought the nexus player from Walmart from the $25 sale like 2 hours ago and was in the process of updating it to Marshmallow from 5.1 via Ota and it restarted randomly and wouldn't boot at all. I'm assuming that it's hard bricked because I can't even boot it into the bootloader by pressing the button.

If i get an android tv box that has IPTV Functionalities, such as the wetek play or the MXIII; do i need a subscription from a local IPTV provider to be able to use IPTV services, or does the android tv box just offer additional channels to what the IPTV provider offers?

-- Here's my story: I get the mail, as an Ouya backer, saying that I can get this awesome gaming and media system for $99, with a controller. About 50 bucks off. Great. My Ouya had a nice run as our house's primary streaming system but was definitely showing some age. So I just went ahead and ordered the Razer Forge TV. First mistake. I should have done some research.

So it comes in the mail with the controller and it looks cool. It's small, the controller feels OK. So I plug it in, download the remote software for my phone, get everything Google set up, and go to install Netflix for my kid.

No Netflix. I honestly couldn't believe it. So I start doing some research. I guess Netflix just doesn't work. Weird, but whatever, I'll install Kodi and it'll be cool. I do that and discover that the menu is not at all customizable and I have to go through a bunch of recommendations and crap--that I don't want--to get to load Kodi. Sheesh. But I get that and tvaddons all set up like we had it on the Ouya and give my kid the controller and tell her it works pretty much the same and show her the ropes.

We go out to the park and play soccer and have a nice time and then when we get back she wants to watch a show on the " new green machine." The controller is still by the TV and we are kicking back on the couch, so I grab my phone and open the remote software. Living in the modern world, whoo!

Nothing, just a black screen. The console does not turn on. The remote can't find it. So I go to the TV and pick up the controller, nothing. So then I unplug the system and plug it back in and there it is. We get to watch the glowing green snake do its thing.

This morning, same thing. I had to plug and unplug the system. Spent part of the day reading up on all of the problems this thing has (thank you to the reddit androidtv forum) and decide to return it. Because this is ridiculous.

My operating theory is that Razer bought the Ouya stuff just to get a list of suckers who like to buy poor-performing Android gaming systems. It is RIDICULOUS.

So I want to get maybe 4-7 bluetooth remotes for my Nvidia Shield so people can play multiplayer games on the Shield. I had a MOGA Hero Power that works fine with my Nexus Player and Nexus 6, but absolutely refuses to be found by my Nvidia Shield. Not a big deal, because I still use it primarily with my Nexus 6, but this raises the issue of buying a controller that potentially won't work with the Shield. Which sucks, because these remotes can easily be had for around $10.

So, are there any reliable BT remotes you guys suggest? $30 is the max I'm willing to pay per remote, anything over and I'd might as well just get some used Shield remotes.

I know Vudu hasn't enabled Android TV support for their app (even though they announced they would in 2015). I've emailed them about it multiple times but always get the generic response saying they're not supporting it now but maybe in the future. I've seen some posts saying that the Sony Android TVs come with the Vudu app installed. Has anyone grabbed the apk and tried to install it on the Nvidia Shield or Nexus Player? I would really like Vudu support, Cinema Now just doesn't cut it for me.

Got this thing for $99 because my Ouya wouldn't stream ESPN3 through the addon anymore and it seemed like a decent deal. Proud of myself for getting Kodi sideloaded and running well--it's a big step up from the Ouya, smooth streaming. But the home menu on the Razer Forge is bugging me.

Figured out how to move Kodi to the front of the apps line, but how do I get the apps at the top of the screen instead of all the stupid recommendations (I disabled them all but now that menu is just up there telling me to add sources), followed by the "Discover" sections, then the few games that came over from the Ouya, and finally the "Apps" section.

TL; DR: I just want the "Apps" menu at the top; it would make me very happy and be easy for my wife to find so she can watch some streaming House Hunters or whatever without having to scroll through "Puppies Predict Superbowl" and assorted YouTube/Google Play recommendation crap.

I know it's not a big deal to scroll down and that I could autolaunch somehow maybe, but having trouble believing that I can't change the menu order and think I might be missing something really obvious despite searching this forum and others for a solution. I'd just like to have Kodi and all my emulators across the top, right there, first thing.
