Nvidia Shield TV $150 inc remote - Game Stop's Black Friday Sale

PSA: Some TV remotes will control the nexus player with no set up required.

So apparently my 5+ year old Panasonic LCD tv's remote will control my nexus player. My son started hitting play while YouTube was paused and the video started playing. Upon investigation the return button acts as a back button, the arrow and enter key work as intended and the play, pause, ff and rewind keys all work normally in Netflix and hulu without issue. I can't find a key that works as a home key but it worked with no issues for the other functions.

It has been quite a while since I worked in an electronics store but IIRC all Panasonic remotes are universal for the brand so this may be true for all Panasonic remotes. Other brands should try this out before replacing your remote, if you are having issues with your current remote.

I am sure this has to do with the HDMI specs but I didn't think mine would do this purely based on age.

Replacement Nexus Player Remote?

My Nexus Player Remote seems to have kicked the bucket. Is it possible to buy a replacement? I could have sworn I'd seen them for sale separately for $20 or something, but now I can't even find them on eBay. Any ideas?

AndroidTV Remote on iOS

I recently moved from Android to iOS when it comes to phones. An unexpected issue is that there is not Android TV remote app on iOS. Largely it's not a problem, but certain things like changing my DNS require the remote app for text input.

Is there an app on iOS or Mac that'd let me do these things?

GTA San Andreas

Is the android version of San Andreas the actual full game? Like that you would play on Xbox? I understand the graphics might not be the same. Also from people that have played it with the shield TV how does it work with the controller? Does it work well?

Cheers!

New Sony Android TV owner with few questions

Hi!

I've recently bought a Sony TV, Sony KDL-50W755C. I heard the picture quality is great and it has android OS, but that's a bit still clunky in term of operating.

So! Since I've never owned any kind of smartTV (or any TV to be precise) I'd like to ask a few basic questions.

What I want:

  • Watching Youtube from my account using WIFI (aka I want too see my subscribed youtubers and their new posts and videos)
  • Watching Twitch streams using WIFI!
  • Playing .MKV files from USB or ext. hard drive
  • Connecting my PC via HDMI cable so I can play my PC games on my big screen. :)

I welcome any guide and tip and which app to use or not, what to do and how to make these work. Thanks in advance for the help and answers!

Shield TV & Kodi

I have had this installed and have been using Addons like Genesis, Sportsdevil, Pheonix, Channel1 etc. Recently I've started to notice that none of these addons seem to be streaming anything, (I choose a something and nothing happens like there is no source, I get the spinning circle and then nothing comes on) especially Genesis & Sportsdevil. Is this a common thing with these add ons? They work for a while and then stop functioning and you need to find a new addon to replace them? or do I need to do something to update them? When I start Kodi it seems to self update the addons itself. Has anyone else noticed or had issues with Genesis or Sportsdevil recently? I'm fairly new to using Kodi and everything worked great when I first installed these addons, but they are pretty much useless right now. Maybe I need to reinstall them or something or disable reenable. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Why does Netflix not hook into the voice search / universal search yet? They do on every other platform that supports it... Including Chromecast and the now abandoned Google TV.

Android TV on AMI DuOS / Similar?

Hey everyone,

Was curious if anyone has tried getting Android TV working in AMIDuOS or any other Android emulator (Genymotion, etc)? I'm setting up a HTPC right now and it'd be great if I could run some Android TV apps on it alongside Windows 10.

DuOS supports Lollipop and both x86 and ARM Android apps, so theoretically should I just be able to install the leanback Gapps on it?

Curious to hear if anyone has tried this.

NVIDIA SHIELD TV now comes bundled with the remote for free for a limited time

Looks like for a limited time when you buy an NVIDIA SHIELD TV from the NVIDIA store you get the remote ($50 value) for free.

Also if you happen to still have a $50 off coupon, it makes this deal even hotter.
