Google Cast not working on Phillips 4K HDR TV

Hey there, we recently got a Phillips 4K TV that is running Android TV. I tried to cast from 3 or 4 apps on my Galaxy S8, and from a Chromebook. They say they have connected to the TV, but will not open up what is supposed to be casted. Has anyone heard of this problem and know a solution?

Edit: I also just tried casting from a computer that has an ethernet connection to the router, and connected one going to the TV. Didn't work. Then I reset the modem and the router. Didn't work.

Twitch is unwatchable on AndroidTV now

Want to watch a stream? AD

Want to change stream and see what another streamer is doing? AD

Need to reload stream? AD

Srsly. Watching on PC gives me no ADS. uBlock is probably blocking them? Why did they have to ruin AndroidTV twitch viewing like that :(

Edit:

I have found a workaround that gets NO ads 100% of the time. I wont post it here as apparently you guys love seeing a Jack Ryan ad everytime you open a stream. Enjoy!

Stadia will have free online multiplayer, publisher subscriptions, and won't work on Android TVs

"A few more tidbits from Stadia head Phil Harrison.

What you need to know

Stadia Base will support online multiplayer games for free.

Publishers will have the option to create subscription-based plans to access a library of its games.

At launch, Stadia will not support Android TVs.

Google Stadia has been causing a lot of excitement at E3 about the future of gaming. Recently, Stadia head Phil Harrison sat down for an interview and revealed some more details https://9to5google.com/2019/06/09/harrison-stadia-e3-interview.

First thing's first, Stadia Base will include online multiplayer for free as long as the publisher doesn't require a subscription. In contrast, you would have to pay up to $9.99 per month for Xbox Live or PlayStation Plus in order to enjoy most multiplayer online games.

Next, we found out a little more about the future of buying games through the service. When Stadia was first announced, we learned that you'd be able to purchase games or play some select free games with your Stadia Pro subscription. Now, we're learning that Stadia will also support publisher subscriptions.

Prime examples of this would be EA Access or Xbox Game Pass, both of which give you access to a collection of games for one monthly fee. In the future, it is likely we could see something similar on Stadia, but it is up to each individual publisher to make it available or not.

Finally, we have some bad news for Android TV owners. At launch, Google Stadia will not have support for Android TVs with Chromecast built in. This update comes in response to a question on Reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/Stadia/comments/bxk05t/stadia_connect_summer_2019_roundup/eq8h0y1/?context=3 from the Stadia community manager who said, "at launch, you'll need to use a Chromecast Ultra to play Stadia on your TV. We're starting with Chromecast Ultra and will continue to add more compatible options."

There was no word on when or if Android TV support would come, so if you're looking to use Stadia on your TV, it looks like you're going to need a Chromecast Ultra. If you don't already have a Chromecast Ultra, then picking up the Stadia Founder's Edition is probably your best bet.

For $129, you'll get the limited edition Night Blue controller, a Chromecast Ultra, Destiny 2, and three months of Stadia Pro for you and a friend.

Stadia Founder's Edition https://store.google.com/product/stadia_founders_edition

A good way to start

This bundle includes everything you need to get started with Google Stadia. It includes the controller, Chromecast Ultra, Destiny 2, and three months of the Stadia Pro subscription for you and a friend. It's a great way to begin your game streaming journey"

[Xiaomi Mi Box S] No permission to write on the external disk

Hello,

I connected a Seagate external hard disk of 2Tb to the Mi Box S.

I'm trying to upload files to this hard disk from my computer (Xubuntu 18.04) using Web Access of FX File Explorer app (apk installed on Mi Box S and web access on my laptop) and to remove files on this hard disk from apps installed on the Mi Box S (I tried with FX File Explorer, Solid Explorer and X-plore file manager).

I always have a permission issue and X-plore gives me this error message:

no activity found to handle intent { act=android.os.storage.action.OPEN_EXTERNAL_DIRECTORY (has extras) }

Finally I have to unplug the hard disk and plug it to my laptop to be able to add/remove files.

Is it a limitation from this box? I didn't find anything useful up to now.

Thank you for your help!

EDIT: solved by connecting the external hard drive to the box of my ISP instead of the Mix Box S (MIBOX4 running 8.1.0).

The Ukrainian 4K Android TV set-top box is here: Infomir presents the MAG425A

Infomir, a Ukrainian manufacturer of IPTV/OTT set-top boxes (STB), has announced on its website the release of MAG425A, the new flagship product running Android TV 8.0 to rival the devices from global brands.

https://i.redd.it/7j1hegiuo2431.png

Android TV 8.0, a voice-controlled remote, and 4K HDR support are touted as the Google-certified STB’s main selling points.

MAG425A features a powerful ARM Cortex-A53 processor, 2 GB RAM, an HDMI 2.1a port, and its built-in dual-band 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi module ensures a stable connection even if the router is far away. For wired internet connections, an Ethernet port is available.

A new 4K HDR viewing experience

With four times the resolution of Full HD, 4K is very lifelike and full of detail—it is rapidly becoming an industry staple. HDR (high dynamic range) enables the most natural colour rendering, providing a wide range of contrast between shadow and light. Although, of course, it takes a 4K HDR TV to fully appreciate all that.

Android TV and voice control

A voice-controlled remote enables users to search for TV shows and films by name, rating, genre, popularity, or to cast with Google Assistant results from all the apps installed on the device.

https://i.redd.it/6egvgmtzo2431.png

The MAG425A can connect to IPTV/OTT providers and media streams, as well as play files from local storage. Also, users can stream videos, music, and films directly from their smartphones and tablets thanks to it’s Chromecast built-in functionality—the only prerequisite is being on the same Wi-Fi network as the STB. The device also supports Android TV games and is compatible with wireless BLE gamepads.

The new MAG425A is now officially available worldwide.

With its history spanning over 14 years, Infomir is a set-top box producer on a mission to improve the interactive television industry. It has headquarters and production capacities in Ukraine, as well as a bunch of representative offices and logistics centres scattered across the USA, Germany, Estonia, Switzerland, and the United Arab Emirates.

Is it possible to auto-switch to a source on boot?

I have a Xiaomi Mi 150 UST projector (the international version with Android TV).

I don't use Android TV on it (instead preferring my Shield) because it has atrocious inherent audio lag that can't be compensated for (videos from Plex or YT on the projector has 80-100ms of audio lag). It's unclear if this is a flaw of this model of projector or just my unit.

So, despite the projector having CEC settings, source switching DOES NOT WORK. However, the projector does power on when a source is activated, so I've been trying to find a way to auto-switch source when it boots.

Does anybody have any experience doing something like this or have any other suggestions. I'm OK with rooting the device, I am also OK with building my own Android app if this is somethign that could be done. I am a software developer but have never done any Android development and can't seem to find a clear indication that there is an API that a user-space app could use to do this, but I am hoping somebody here will tell me different...

Also, if you have this device and do NOT have input lag, please also let me know that because maybe the easiest thing here is to just replace the projector...

[UNOFFICIAL] LineageOS 16 for Razer Forge TV

https://i.redd.it/31dwtj77ye331.png

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android, which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.

INSTRUCTIONS :

******* FULL WIPE IS REQUIRED, if you are coming from stock or Lineage 14.1 *****

******* You have to use adb commands in recovery (ex. adb push / adb shell twrp install) ******

Download the latest build and gapps

Boot to twrp ("fastboot boot recovery.img" - you can't flash twrp yet, image is to big for the partition)

Flash the latest build

To flash opengapps you need to put this txt file (https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=6006931924117891960) in the same directory (or you will get an error related to partition size)

this discard some apps from installation, but you can always install later from play store....

Reboot

* You need to unlock your bootloader before flash twrp

** In Lineage Setup Wizard you can pair you Razer Serval or any other remote/gamepad device putting in discovery mode (autopair) or you can use an HDMI-CEC enabled TV.

BUGS:

- Secure L1 playback is broken (No Netflix, etc...)

- Remote App Voice search is broken

- Some times the screen goes off and won't wake up with CEC, you can turn on the screen with your BT device or the ATV app.

How can I watch live TV on fire stick or Mi box?

So I was planning on buying either the fire or mi box, but my problem comes down to how can I still use live TV? I have a satellite dish on my roof and I think it uses DVB S2 and I'd love to actually be able to use it as well. Because where I live, most channels are not available online and I can only access them through that.

So is there anyway to do that without having to buy wetek air or play 2? they have this exact feature, but they're expensive.

Thank you all in advance!

Philips Android TV (32PFS6402/12) turns on by itself (+HBO GO issue)

Hey guys! I just got a Philips Android TV and it is a pretty good value for money, except one (maybe two) things that drive me crazy. It just randomly turns on at night. I have tried almost everything to try stop it from doing this, but it just won't stop. Any ideas how can I fix this? Also, the HBO GO app is showing all the videos in some sort of stretched format, with the upper right corner enlarged to the whole screen.
