Just wanted to warn everyone that Sony is shipping 2019 Android TV's with Android 7.0 from 2016 and no upgrade is available online or the website.

I'm just trying to decide who the bigger piece of shit is here... Sony for shipping a new TV with a 3 year old OS or Google for allowing this anti-consumer behavior from their partners.

This is definitely going back to Amazon. I'm getting a non-Sony TV with an nVidia Shield for less money and a much better experience.

I recommend that everyone steer clear of 2019 Sony Android TV's until they can treat the platform and their customers with some respect.

I recently upgraded my Sony KD55XF8796 from Android 7.0 to Android 8.0 and I can't find how to force close apps when you're finished with them anymore?

On Android 7.0 I would just hold down the home button for a few seconds but now that just brings up the same menu you get from pressing the "apps" button on the remote. There's no option from this menu I can see to force close the app either.

My Mi Box was running out of storage space, so I put a USB drive and migrated all the data to it. But, when I a try to install some app from Google Play, it says I have no storage space. I checked my storage settings and I can see that my Internal shared storage has 4 GB available, and all my data is on my USB drive... Well, I do have storage space, is that a bug or something? Ps: I'm using Android Oreo

I'm at 30 apps now. I heard it was 16, is there some type of setting I need? Thanks.

Hello, I recently got the Mi Box S and can't get the built in Chromecast to work. I have connected my phone and the Mi Box to the same WiFi network. When I tap the cast icon in the YouTube app on my phone and select the Mi Box as casting device, I see a short loading animation and then nothing happens. Has anyone experienced similar issues? Or am I missing something?

Im trying to enable subtitles on mi box 4k, morph tv with opensubtitles but it says that I have to login to opensubtitles. There is not an option for that in the settings, help....

I recently bought a USB Stick to expand the storage on my mi box, but it does not have the permission to write on it. I have also setted it as system storage, but apps like Kodi won't be able to write data on it. Tried to move a 200mb file on the "expanded" storage and it worked (has only be moved to internal storage) und I also tried to move a 3000mb file, but this did not work.

So is there a way to move any file to the USB Stick which is connected to your Mi Box S?

I recently bought a Shield TV for my theater room and have enjoyed the heck out of it. I use it to play movies from Hulu, Prime as well as movies stored on my Plex server. One especially nifty thing I noticed about the main Android TV interface on the Shield is that if you search for a movie or TV show, not only does it give you information about the show, it tells you every option you have to view it, whether through Netflix, Hulu, Prime or from your Plex server.

Because I'm the main user of the theater room I went with the Shield there, but for the rest of the house I bought Fire 4K sticks both to save on cost and because my wife uses the Alexa ecosystem a lot and I wanted to keep things consistent for her. I have noticed that while the Fire 4K sticks have the same feature I mentioned above of listing movie/tv show view options from the main interface for apps such as Hulu, Netflix and (of course) Prime, they DO NOT seem to include videos on the Plex server in this list. If I know I have a movie or show on my server, I have to manually enter the Fire 4K's Plex app to find and play it.

I know this is a minor annoyance and it is certainly not a dealbreaker that would cause me to spend the extra cash on more Shields. I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this and been annoyed by it? Is there any reason behind it other than that Amazon wants us to use their services rather than our local files? Is there any way to correct it other than simply wait and hope Amazon updates the Fire 4K software to read from the Plex server?

I decided to make use of the screensaver function of my Bravia TV and went to set up a google photos folder for it to use as screensaver images. It appears in the home app and I select it as the chosen folder to use for images. But it just doesn’t work, it forever chooses its own artwork photos.

Everything I find online tells me exactly how I’ve set it up, I’ve found briefly on a reddit post that a known bug of the built in android function just doesn’t work when choosing google photos as an option. Is this true? I just want some nice family photos to appear on the tv when it’s been left paused for a few minutes :/

My elderly mother has one app to watch some programming, and I installed it on an Amazon Fire TV stick, but even that is too complicated for her to navigate, due to all the recommended content. Is there a simple solution, where I can have minimal apps and a simple UI?

I've been using a modified version that I founder here a few months back and it was working great until recently. Wondering if there is a new version floating around or if anyone is still having success using an Xfinity app on either android tv or firetv?

As people know, when for almost 2mos now, when trying to control an Android TV device with any other Google Assistant device like a mini or a home hub, it wouldn't work. When I tried to play a song on Spotify on my Shield I'd get a message like "There is a problem right now, please try again later".

For the hell of it I tried it again today. Now I get the message, "Actually, the Shield TV doesn't support that functionality".

It doesn't? It worked fine before. Even Nvidia and Google promote that functionality as a selling point on how any Assistant device (including Android TV) can be controlled by any other. The whole Google Assistant infrastructure is based upon this functionality.

So, Google, have you officially given up on us? I invested hundreds of dollars into your devices and have multiple Android TV devices. If it doesn't do what you claim, what's the point of me having all these Google Assistant and Android TV devices?

Before everyone tells me to get a Shield, lol. What do you guys think the possibility of the Mi box S getting a dolby vision update is? Does it require special licensing that would make the box cost more?

I love my Mi box S, works great. Just wish it had dolby vision, so I wouldnt have to use the built in netflix app on my vizio, instead of the one on the box (just 4k/HDR10).

I've bought this tv (Philips 43PUS7303/12) 3 weeks ago and everything worked perfectly until today.

After I came home from work I tried watching some Netflix and it showed I was disconnected from the internet. I connected it again but the same thing happened.

I even completely reinstalled the television but the same thing occurs. There were no software updates between the time it worked and when it stopped working.

Did someone experience a similar issue? I'm quite worried that something is broken and I need to return it.

Edit: thanks everyone for your replies but nothing seemed to work. Oddly, changing the wifi password has fixed the whole issue.

Hey guys, yes I read the subreddit description and I don't own one of the better devices like a nvidea shield. But maybe somebody can still help me here. My android box is a "eachlink h6 mini" which I am not using very often and I am till now quite happy with the performance.

My problem is that I attached a small mobile HDD which is getting its power through the USB port. However when I plug it in, it immediately starts the HDD whether the box is turned on or not. Same thing when I turn the box off, the HDD remains on.

Is there a way I can turn the HDD off in a proper way? I imagine just unplugging it isn't good for the device.

I've a homecinema Yamaha RX-V367 Black 5.1 Version1.

I use a lot Kodi.

Now I've it on Rpi 3B+.

I'm thinking about change Rpi3b+ for a better "box".

What are your recommandations? Mi Box S, ChromeCast, stay on Rpi3B+, or other?
