MiBox 2174 Build Rollback

Hi guys! After 2303 update my MiBox won't turn on after standby even spamming the remote back button several times (this trick worked on the previous builds when it wouldn't turn on by pressing the power button) and I have to unplug the power cable to be able to turn it on. I'm having the same issue with 2179 build that I flashed following the guide posted here by u/koshergoy

So, I would like to roll back to Build 2174 that was the most stable to me but I can't find the image of that build. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance.

Is Iplayer not possible to watch in Android using VPN any more?

Used to use Pure VPN for watching iPlayer. Looks like you can only watch it with Windows and Mac now. Don't understand why this is case but tried today and failed - contacted their support who say it's 50/50 chance of working.

MiBox Audio Sync Issues

Hey guys!

I just got a XiaoMi International MiBox 3 two days ago and today I started having problems with video playing from various apps like Youtube or Netflix. The audio seems to play a wee bit faster than the video. I did some googling and I guess this is a pretty common issue. Found some solutions like rebooting or factory resetting but it seems like they are only short term solutions. This is really frustrating :/ Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Enhanced video processing depending on the kind of box I use ?

Hello there,

I just received a set-top box from my ISP (Bouygues Telecom in France). It runs AndroidTV pretty smoothly. I've been able to configure Live Channels on it with my m3u playlist but the hardware seems to be struggling (it stutters). I've been though noticing that the video quality was far superior to the mi Box Oreo that I'm also using. My mi box doesn't struggle with Live Channels but the video quality seems inferior.

How come does this ISP box have a better "tv feel" than the Mi box ? Is it possible to add this "tv feel" to the Mi Box ?

Thanks.

Edit : typo.

DC Universe Streaming app?

I noticed the standard Android app (with casting) and the Apple TV and Roku apps are out- I'm wondering if there's going to be an Android TV version of the app?

Right now it is pretty lean on content but eventually I'll probably try it out for a month. I suspect the PQ/AQ won't be great either- probably too much to expect 5.1?

Xiaomi MDZ-16-AB Solution to Downgrade from Flaky Oreo Build 2303 OTA to More Stable Build 2179

You will ultimately end up with build 2179, a solid bugfix version that was never available to the general public.

It is generally acclaimed to solve many nagging problems without creating more issues, unlike recent OTA build 2303 and its manifold problems.

It is not all encompassing and does not deal with auto resolution switching, etc, but handles most other issues smoothly, particularly wifi performance issues that can impact many streaming apps.

This proven process requires 3 consecutive steps to ensure success: 1:Manually flash Oreo build 2167 2:Manually flash Oreo build 2179 3:Perform complete system reset

Details: A-Download first OTA Oreo build 2167 from

http://download1761.mediafire.com/qq5q04larg1g/fhh4zjspge6eh22/once-8.0-2167.7z

B-Unzip once-8.0-2167.7z on your drive, resulting in 2 files... xiaomi_update (630,558 KB) update.zip (1 KB)

C-Copy both files to an USB thumb drive formatted as FAT32

D-Start manual recovery process: ADVANCED USERS CAN USE ADB COMMAND
adb reboot recovery with usb thumb drive inserted in MiBox

Remove power plug from Mibox Insert USB thumb drive into MiBox press and hold BACK arrow and OK button (Do not touch any other adjacent buttons) reconnect power...

It should start recovery mode and automatically start update If it starts showing colored dots, try again.

++It may be useful to get an extra set of hands..++

**THIS COMPLETES ROLLBACK FROM 2303 to 2167.

YOU CAN NOW FLASH STABLE BUGFIX BUILD 2179**

E-Download most stable Oreo bugfix build 2179 from https://android.googleapis.com/packages/ota-api/xiaomi_once_once/5c7bf1ed022e2bb32815d215703bf2e913c2c58e.zip

rename zip file to update.zip

copy update.zip file to FAT32 formatted USB thumb drive (overwrite existing file is suggested)

F-Start Manual update as shown in step D (above)

G-Perform complete system reset, as follows...

On MiBox home screen, select SETTINGS, STORAGE & reset, Factory data reset.

THIS FACTORY RESET IS CRUCIAL TO ESTABLISHING A CLEAN STARTING POINT

It is understood you will need to reinstall all apps and reconfigure your settings.

Removing all side-loaded programs will allow you to install updated versions that are designed for Oreo.

If you still have issues with sideloaded apps, consult with the developer and confirm they are built with Oreo in mind.

If you insist on using sideloaded apps not found in Google Play Store, be patient and install just one app at a time. Test for performance.

This build 2179 is universally considered to be the most stable to date. Still a lot to be done but it is a suitable replacement for disappointing OTA build 2303.

If your experience with 2303 is preferred to 2179, you can easily perform an OTA update back to 2303 by using SETTINGS/About/System update.

Your box will stay on 2179 until you positively activate system update and click on both confirmation screens

Alternatively, you can perform manual upgrade to 2303 from this url

MiBox 2303 update issue - slow performance after sleep

After the 2303 update my box is pretty much useless after sleep. It's so slow that I can't use it unless I reboot it. After a reboot it's snappy again.

It's getting very frustrating having to reboot my box everytime I'm gonna use it.

Anyone have the same experience after the 2303 update?

It was fine before the update.

Broadcast a statusmessage when device is on?

Hi,

I have a Mi Box Android TV, and I want to track the state of this device to integrate it to my home automation system.

What I want to acheive is to see whether the device is ON or OFF/Sleep. I have tried pinging the device, which doesn't work because the device comes online even when it is sleeping.

My next idea was to find an app which would broadcast a message somehow. Like an app that always runs in the background, and when you sleep the device the broadcasted message will disappear.

Is there an app like this?

Thank you!

Nvidia Shield Android TV / Screen Recorder Activation and are there limits on recording time?

The other day I tried the Recording feature on my Nvidia Shield and to my surprise it gave excellent video and audio quality, almost identical to the source. Assuming I have lots of space of my shield if I start recording is there a limit on the size of the recording or a time limit?

Also is there anyway to activate and stop the recording automatically somehow? What if I'm rooted? Any commands through shell?

Alternative app for Twitch?

As many of you knows, the androidTV app is just a mess and it's missing basic features that even the normal android version has, like resuming playback from last position on Vods, something terribly useful when we look at 10-13 hours Vods as you can imagine. Do you know any substitute app I can use that has this feature? Thank you.

Xiaomi Mi box sometimes hangs after hours of streaming video

Hello!

I have 4 Xiaomi Mi boxes that I use around the house.

Two of them happen to run almost 12 hours a day streaming TV.

I am taking the DVB-T signal from my aerial, passing it through TVHeadend on a Linux box and streaming it over WiFi to the Mi boxes that have the AndroidTV TVHeadend app running. I used to use MuMuDVB on the Linux box and TVirl on the MI boxes and had the same problem.

Quite frequently, the two almost constant running Mi boxes hang. Sometimes I can exit the Live Channels APP, but most of the times the boxes are unresponsive and I have to unplug the power.

It is quite hot here and I thought that was the reason. I took a 12v 120mm computer fan and replaced the plug with a USB one. I have the fan underneath one of the boxes running constantly (at lower rpm due to the 5v). It seems like it sometimes helps and sometimes it doesn't. It still hangs in random moments, usually after hours of streaming.

Has anyone had any similar problems? Any ideas on how to diagnose? Main culprits in my mind are either overheating, some sort of memory leak or overflow or connectivity issues that cause the Live Channels APP to hang. It only seems to happen after 6-8 + hours but I have also left it on for 30+ hours to test without it hanging.

Xiaomi MiBox - Google cast on Vizio TVs working now?

Hello. I have a 55" Vizio 4K TV, pretty low end model. About 18 months ago or so I picked up a Xiaomi Mi Box from Wal-Mart for $70 and while it seemed to work really well, the one area that didn't work at all was Google Cast videos (which is my common use case). Video would be in slow motion and audio never matched the video (extreme latency). I messed around with many settings but could never get it to work.

has anyone got a MiBox on a Vizio 4K TV? How is Google Cast functionality?

Recommendation for Device for Custom DNS Entries?

Hello. I am a cord-cutter of 5 years now and I subscribe to NHL Game center (NHL.TV) and I currently use an old Apple TV 2nd gen (2011) to watch NHL games via the Apple TV app. I use it because I can use my custom DNS entries for my Unlocator subscription service (as I am a fan of the NJ Devils who are local to me but due to blackout rules from cable/satellite providers I had to find another way).

I';ve tried replacing my old Apple TV device with an Android/Google based device, as I have since 2011 migrated to all Google based devices. I've tried the Xiaomi MiBox but the Google cast functionality on my 55" 4K Vizio is a disaster. Since I cannot use Chromecast (hard coded Google DNS) I would like to pick up an Android TV based device and install the NHL app on it, while using custom DNS entries.

My expensive alternative is to just buy a new Apple TV, possibly the 4K model. It's expensive, and it's Apple (ugh) but it works for my setup. Anyone know of a cheaper, Android based solution i can leverage?

Cheers
