Casting issues on oreo (miBox)

After I upgraded to Oreo everything has been solid on my MiBox except for casting.

Tried to cast Westworld last night from my cable providers app, but it just froze after a couple of seconds. Tried again and it wouldn't even start playback.

Hooked up my old Chromecast to the TV instead, worked right away.

Tried again this morning casting to the MiBox, same issue.

Anyone else have this problem? Any solution? Cast app is up to date according to the play store, and I have the latest system update installed.

I'm used to Oreo now.

The old UI is becoming a distant memory. All my apps are now in the very top row instead of below some kind of recommendations row that I never used. You can even re-order or remove the Play Next row in this new UI. And I even dusted off the gamepad to play some free GeForce games.

Safe to say I've gotten used to the new layout and no longer have the "omg I can't handle change" stick up my butt. I'm glad I just updated as soon as it was offered so I could get familiar with it.

How to block Mi Box 3 OTAs totally?

I'm receiving my Mi Box 3 in the mail in a couple of days and I don't want to get updated to the problematic Oreo releases when I connect it to the internet/when Xiaomi releases the OTA to the public again.

What URLs/hosts do I need to block on my network? Can I block it directly on the device too, maybe using root?

Mi Box 8.0 Audio Settings

What's the difference between RF and LINE option for Dolby Audio? Also, you can choose "OFF" as well, but I still get audio from files with Dolby codec when choosing "OFF", so what does it do to the audio? Does the box convert the audio to some other codec? If so, what codec?

Thanks for answers.

Mi Box 3 Oreo - Is it possible to disable 'Xiaomi Recommends' like you could in 6.1?

In 6.1 you just disabled the xiaomi leanback customizer, but this doesn't seem to be a system app in Oreo. Anybody know what app to disable now, or is it no longer possible?

Thanks!

EDIT: I'm talking about the list at the bottom of the 'Apps' page when you open that in Oreo (by scrolling to the left and clicking on the circle with the 9 dots), like this page (Except mine has a 'Xiaomi Recommends' section underneath the games section:

EDIT 2:

Took a photo of it (don't know how to do a screenshot on it), it actually resides between apps and games:

Is there a way to automatically switch to restricted profile

So I just bought a second shield tv, this one I will have setup so my kids can is it too. I plan for them to use the restricted profile to block some apps. I am if there is a way that it would change to the restrictive profile by itself. For example if after watching tv at night on my profile, I forget to switch back to the restrictive can I use an app to do it for me. This way of they wake up earlier than me that won't have full access.

MiBox 3 - No video, only sound... wtf happened?

We used our MiBox 3 nearly every single day for well over a year, but I had it powered off for the past 6 weeks or so because we are remodeling.

Finally powered it back up about a week ago and it worked fine for a few days but then one morning we turned on the TV and there was no video from the MiBox. If I click around with the controller I can hear the menu sounds, so it's on and working - just no picture.

I've tried powering on/off a million times, bypassing my soundar and plugging directly into the TV, different HDMI ports, different HDMI cables... everything I can think of. None of it makes any difference.

I didn't update to Oreo but I'm wondering if maybe it automatically updated itself and that's why it won't work now? I did click on "Check Update" at one point during the few days it was working but it said there was no update available.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm totally lost.

Looking for simple tutorial getting started retro gaming and also have a question about controllers for Shield TV.

  1. As mentioned in title, I'm looking to get my retro gaming on and need simple tutorial on getting started that breaks down the various emulators and how to get everything onto the shield.
  2. I have the shield combo without the controller so I need to get one. I am going back and forth between the shield controller and the 8bitdo N30. Anyone have any thoughts? Wife has an XBox and I'm not crazy about that style of controller, but will I miss out on many features if I go with the N30 as opposed to the Shield controller?

New Oreo OTA available for Mi Box with May 5th patch.

Google symbol appears and is layered on top of whatever app is opened.

Nvidia Shield TV, I can't find anything on this. After about an hour of use a circular Google logo pops up in the left hand side of the screen. I need to restart the device for it to go away. Sometimes changing random settings can shit it off. Also device has started alerting me that the Ethernet cable isn't plugged in. It is and everything works.

This all started a couple of days before the new update. Any help? I'm leaning towards a component failure at this point 😐

MiBox waking from sleep starts playing where it left off

My kids watch YouTube cartoons in the morning before we run out the door. I don't have time in the morning to fiddle with a remote (let alone find under which kid it currently is... cause they themselves surely don't know...). When it's time to go, it's "OK Google, turn off TV" time (which triggers a Harmony activity that toggles power on TV, Mi Box, sound amp, etc).

The problem is that ever since the Oreo update, when I turn on the TV in the evening, it just immediately starts playing YouTube where it left off (in the middle of the cartoons). Wouldn't be too big a deal, but usually this happens after the kids just went to bed, and the sound volume is left at 11/10 since morning. And since Harmony triggers sequences in order, I got to wait a few seconds for the sequence to finish before I can even lower the volume (while it's blaring PJ Masks to wake the kids right back up).

Is there a setting in Oreo to not autoresume playback after waking from sleep? Maybe a YouTube app setting I am missing? Is there a different "power toggle" button in Harmony setup for the MiBox now so it doesn't do this?

I know, first world problems, but this is driving me and wife crazy, and she is about to throw my stupid toys away

Mi Box 3 audio sync issues - is there really no fix for this?

I just got a mi box 3, was pretty great for a couple of days until the audio on every app got out of sync. Everything is like watching a (very) badly dubbed foreign film.

Doing some Google/Reddit searches shows some other people having the problem - but I've tried every potential solution I could find with no luck.

I've tried:

  1. turning it off and back on again (and also doing so by leaving it unplugged for a very long time, but even if that worked - and t didn't - I don't think having to unplug it every couple of days is a viable long term solution)
  2. Changing Audio from PCM to HDMI (setting to auto makes it go to SPDIF, which I am not using and gives me no sound at all)
  3. Going into developer settings and setting HDMI to best frame rate instead of resolution
  4. Factory Reset

Anyone who had this problem get the Oreo update and have it fixed? Not sure what else to do other than just return it.

Thanks!!

EDIT: Forgot to mention that if I open something in VLC, where you can fix audio lag, I can tell that the audio is exactly 1000ms off from the video.
