Philo is out for Fire TV, anyone pull the APK yet?

Would love to give the service a shot, but no Android TV app means it's a non-starter for now.

MiBox Oreo DTS Plex issue

I've updated to Oreo, and noticed that media with DTS sounds are now being transcoded when watching from Plex android app. MiBox is connected with HDMI to my Samsung TV. I've tried setting the profile to unlimited, passthrough to on/off but it doesn't help. If i turn on surround to always it works but then I do not hear main channels properly. When i watch media in Plex addon in Kodi 17.6 it works fine, no transcoding. This didn't happen in 6.0.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

Green screen in YouTube

I do not know what happened, yesterday worked well. From this morning youtube only plays audio and the video image is only a green color. Strangely, the image of the preview when advancing or retreating is seen correctly.twitch and vlc work well.

EDIT: I do not know why it works well now. Well, 3 hours later he fixed himself.

Issues with your device overheating? try this out.

I had an issue with my Android TV box(T95Z) CONSTANTLY freezing on me. I noticed it happened when I would start to open apps on the device. Sometimes it would take 30 seconds, other times it would freeze after 10 minutes. It was really frustrating. I installed a CPU temperature monitor and saw temps spike to 160 F. That isn't good for any device. So I started messing around with the device and took it apart. I removed the gigantic glob of what appeared to be thermal paste. I also removed the metal piece that was on the top part of the case. I got out my drill and went crazy. I put around 40 holes in the top of my case. I've ran this thing for 5 hours now doing all sorts of different things with it. Steam link, streaming movies, running emulators. Not a single hiccup. I also installed Poison ROM on it and that's help tremendously with performance. I hope this helps some of you struggling.

Coming from Plex Media Server, is there anyway I can get a similar UI on my MiBox using only an external HDD?

I'm not running Plex for a while and instead want a HDD attached to my MiBox, what would be the best app for this? I know I can use Kodi but that seems like a lot of setup, the Plex app was really nice and convienent so something similar would be great.

Mi Box 3 goes to stock recovery upon boot

I received the Oreo update on my Mi Box, and after installing, it boots directly into the stock recovery. What is the best way to restore it (to Oreo or any older version)? I'm used to flashing roms on phones, but I don't have a custom recovery on the Mi Box and I can't seem to find a full rom 😅

Manually updating to oreo

Hey.

I was wondering if there is a way to manually update to Oreo, as Xiaomi have disabled the OTA updates.

I know there are still a lot of bugs, but still, I would like to update.

Also, updating manually, will I still get further updates OTA, or will I have to stick to manually updating all the time and unable to update via OTA that Xiaomi pushes?

Thanks.

Help needed

Having trouble finding out what I need so I'm hoping someone on here will be able to help me.

Basically I want to buy an Adriod Tv box of some sort that allows for a SIM card to be used to access data. Currently where I live I have very limited access to the internet, but I do recieve 4G signal. My idea is to use a network called "Three" in the UK which allows unlimited streaming from Netflix, Deezer and two other apps that I can't recall. I was hoping to the use the Andriod Box to set up as a hotspot as well to allow myself and my wife to use this as our wifi.

the problem is I'm not sure if this is possible as the only andriod boxes that I am seeing with SIM card holder are al coming from Alibi and so I can't really find out if they are legit or not.

Any help would be greatly apperciated

Any apps that can alter Audio Compression to even out movies? Ie huge explosions then quiet dialog.

No TV or amp settings unfortunately.

Edit: I think Viper4android can do it but the mi box on Oreo doesn't have root yet 😒

Can you transfer (not share) files from PC to Android TV?

Here's my situation. I finally got a 4K HDR TV (Sony 55X900e), but my home (well - apartment) network setup can't handle streaming high bitrate files from my PC to either my TV or my PS4 Pro.

My PC is in my second bedroom and the TV is in the living room. They are connected via a powerline connector. A hardline isn't an option without getting in the way of walkways (and looking horrible to trace along baseboards and doorways).

What I'm thinking of doing is getting a USB 3.0 external HDD and connecting it to the TV to play HDR content locally. But my main concern is is being able to transfer the files from my PC to the hard drive through the TV.

I could move the hard drive between the TV and PC when I need to transfer, but that would get really annoying really fast. The simplest method while be as I said above, transferring the files over the network using the Android TV, but is that a possibility?

120 hz massive judder

I recently got a Sony Bravia kd55x900f or xf9005 (https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x900f#comparison_1799) and I’m having some issues maybe someone could help me resolve.

I use it mostly as a pc monitor, using 1080p@120hz when watching videos that have 24 fps, I get massive judder. It’s fine when watching at a 60hz resolution. Also, watching videos that have 60 fps on a 120hz resolution it’s also fine.

Now, since 120 is a multiple of 24, there shouldn’t be any judder as I’ve read on the web. I don’t understand why I’m getting some much judder, it’s almost unwatchable. I’ve tried lots of different tv settings, motionflow doesn’t do much if anything in this situation.

Edit: after doing some research, I guess my problem is not juddering but stuttering

Spotify has an amazing casting experience.

Can we all take a minute and give it up for Spotify? 👏. Their casting experience is amazing! Instead of creating a separate instance of the app when you cast (IE. YouTube), it is the SAME app! That may not sound like a big deal but the biggest advantage is it let's you seamlessly move between your phone and the remote. Most importantly, all the functions still work with the remote. In contrast with the YouTube app which locks you into only being able to play/pause and does not give any options when you're using the remote after a cast.

TL;DR : Spotify casting >>> YouTube casting. More controls when casting then using remote

Edit: I'm dumb, you need to link your phone in the app😅. Thank you /u/ProgrammerPlus
