Shield as a plex server question

Does anyone know if it would it be possible to attach a hard drive to the shield and manage all the downloading and sorting on a laptop and then move them automatically over a wireless network to the shield? Cheers.

What's the deal with YouTube HDR?

What does Reddit think it the real reason why Android TV devices don't have YouTube HDR yet? I've heard a few theories:

  • Technical limitations: every device has a different chipset and there isn't a generic way for Google to make HDR work on everything yet
  • Contractual issues: Samsung is the only TV vendor with out of the box native YouTube HDR. Did Google sign some kind of exclusively agreement which means they can't put it on Android TV just yet?
  • Commercial issues: if Google put YouTube HDR on Android TV it might cannibalise sales of the premium Chromecast model (forgot name)

(Canada)Advice for which box to buy

Judging by similar threads, it seems like the Nvidia Shield is the best quality option if you can afford it, with the Mi Box being second choice at a lower price point. Since I'm looking to buy my first box for a home with 2 TV's, I was planning on ordering the Mi Box off Amazon.ca, and consider buying the Shield and cut my cable if it goes well. But I haven't seen any Canadians ask about ordering a box from a website mentioned in a CBC News article. Should I get this instead of the Mi Box?

Does anyone know how to startup android tv box without that really loud noise.

I have an a96 z tv box. What's annoying me is that really loud noise that comes on when the box starts. Is there any way to skip the startup screen altogether, or disable the sound

Part of Nvidia's 8.0 delay for the Shield is because most apps don't have "Channels" yet for the new Home interface. They are working on it

Philo Tv

I tried searching, but couldn’t find anything definitive. I currently have Directvnow and have a fire tv and Roku. I recently learned of Philo tv, but the only app they have available is for Roku. On the fire stick you can use silk browser and it streams fine, so I was wondering if anyone had tried it using chrome on android tv? I’m really wanting to pick up a shield as I love the android tv os and use YouTube tv and Philo to compliment each other, but the wife would kill me if I switch and she not be able to watch Investigation Discovery on philo

Warning: stupid n00b questions ahead

I have a Mi Box, which I'm returning for a Shield. I plan to play my films off of an attached USB drive. Are there better apps than VLC for this purpose? If so, do I need to root to get them? Lastly, I'm using a Harmony Hub to control my A/V system. Is there a way to access things like switching audio track, subtitles on/off, etc. from my phone, rather than the Android TV box's remote? The goal would be to throw that remote in a drawer and use my phone (or the Harmony remote) for everything.

Thanks (and apologies if these questions have been asked many, many, many, many times before)

Amazon Prime (EU) extracted from Sony 2017 TV

Hi there AndroidTv friends I've extrected the Amazon Prime Video app from my 2017 xe80 Sony TV, I tried installing it on another Android TV box and it works! :D

Here is the link!

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1048N_kPG4nvnZit0UFS1F2bX8rVDubmZ

Hope you find it useful!

P.s. Keyboard doesn't show characters so it will be hard to insert username and password, but it will work!

nooneisreal found a workaround I'm posting it here: If you are opening the app for the first time, you should skip the sign in menu and then go to Settings -> Register device -> register on website It will then give you a 6 character code that you can use to quickly register the device at primevideo.com/mytv Much faster than typing out your amazon username/password

problems with portrait mode

I have a TCL with ATV. I sideloaded an app and by default it displays horizontally in portrait mode. I tried forcing landscape mode with set orientation app but now the app is displayed fullscreen in landscape mode but I can only see the upper half, which turns it unusable. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Anyone find a way to watch YouTube TV on the Mi Box???

I'm dying here. I have the Mi Box and the Amazon Fire TV, I signed up for the trial of Youtube TV, since $35 is a lot less than what I am paying for PS Vue. The issue I see is there is no way I have found to sideload the app to allow me to watch on my MiBox. My LG remote is god awful for a user experience.

Should I get a nvidia shield tv for my smart lg tv?

It has Webos which isn’t bad, it’s pretty good actually, but the lg store has really nothing there, and I wanted more apps and I also wanted to listen to my tv through my headphones. Should I wait for the shield tv to drop in price or what?

Roommate got a smart TV with Cast support and it's messing EVERYTHING up.

Currently, I have a Mi Box connected to my TV that I cast YouTube videos to.

However, for Christmas my roommate brought home a Samsung Smart TV that has Google Cast support. Which is all fine and dandy, but the problem is it's conflicting with my Mi Box. You see, usually with my Mi Box I can go to my phone, tap the Cast icon, and it'll wake up my Mi Box and in turn wake up my TV over HDMI CEC.

The new smart TV throws a monkey wrench in all of that.

All of my devices now see this other TV that can be cast to, and more often than not I'll be sitting back in bed, everyone else asleep, wanting to cast a Twitch stream/YouTube video to my TV, and when I hit the cast button it'll default to the Samsung, thus waking up my roommate, and thus having her not be very happy with me.

I'd just go in there and kick her TV off the network, but she uses it with Netflix so I can't exactly deprive it of an internet connection. Is there any way to stop this from happening? To make it so my devices stop trying to connect to her TV whenever I want to cast?

Thanks.

Remote control by voice with iftt, anymote, Google assistant

Was looking to be able to tell the shield a few remote control commands like "volume up" (using amp over cec) "homepage" "back"... using Google assitant on phone or GH. This is possible using anymote app and iftt on your phone. Here is how to do it: download anymote and set it to find an android TV device, next head to iftt app and create an applet that will suit your need. you create a trigger with Google assitant and an action by anymote. Et voilà. It's still not perfect but fun. I believe there is another (and better) possibility using tasker, autovoice (and natural language option) but haven't tested it yet. Edit: did mean to post it on shield TV sub

Google Assistant Inegration via Android TV Remote App?

Is it me or does this seem like common sense? Does any one know if there have been plans to better integrate the Google Assistant on our phones with Android TV? I know right now I should be able to tell Google via my phone to cast something to my Mi Box or Shield but I feel as if there is a big opportunity for some really good integration via the Android TV Remote App. Once connected to an Android TV device, the remote app should be able to respond to voice commands via Google Assistant. For example, "Open Playstation Vue" or "Play xyz on Netflix"

Am I wrong to think this should be an obvious feature of the app... Especially for those who don't have an always-listening remote/controller.

Struggling with audio sync issues

Maybe someone here has insight that could help me.

I have a Shield TV connected to an Sony 65" x900e. The TV is connected to a Sony STR-DN840 receiver. I have to connect everything to the TV since the receiver doesn't support HDCP 2.2.

When using the Shield TV the audio is often out of sync with the video. Watching purchased movies/TV on Google Play is most noticeable. Also watching a show on hulu or netflix seems to get further off on each episode. I have tried adjusting the sync setting on the Shield TV/TV/Receiver without much luck. Can't find the right combination. I could solve this by getting a new receiver that is HDCP 2.2 compliant, but that is only a last resort.

Any suggestions? The Shield TV streams 4K content much smoother than the TV especially Amazon Prime (lots of buffering) so I prefer to use it.

Google Assistant able to cast to MiBox?

Running a Google Home speaker and telling it to play Spotify or Youtube on a Mibox device. MiBox running version 1028 Nougat (freshly flashed).

I can see something is happening when instructing to "play Spotify/Youtube on MiBox" - the volume indicator pops up on the screen and goes to max - but nothing plays.

No problems playing to a chromecast dongle or Bravia TV with "chromecast inside"...

anyone know how to make this work??

thnx
