Does the SlingTV app or any of their competitors work/interface with Live Channels app?

I have my Shield TV set up over local network storage with ES File Explorer connected to it on my phone. However, when I select the Shield from my phone it doesn't do anything. Am I missing something or is there an easier way? I use the Google Drive method for small files but I want to use a my local network to share large files.

Does anyone know of a public dns server that is specifically setup for streaming tv?

Just started using bluetooth earbuds with my gen 1 16gb shield. After a few minutes of streaming and using the earbuds, remote unpairs itself, and then automatically repairs itself if I place the remote next to the console.

Wondering if this is a common issue and if there are any fixes.

I'm obviously only going to have one powered on and in use at a time but does it handle connections well when two are paired? Will it smoothly auto connect to it when powered on?

I've recently returned a Mi Box 4k because I hated the performance.so slow. Is there any chance to install Android TV Launcher (leanback launcher) on android phones? I have decided to use my phone instead. Kodi is nice but liked the leanback launcher.

Has the Netflix app been very unreliable for anyone else? Any recommended alternatives or fixes?

Just got an Android TV (Sony), but since I am in Canada I am having difficulties getting Hulu downloaded. I have it working on my Roku, and can still connect that to my TV just fine and use it. However, preferably would want the app to work on the TV itself. Any other Canadians manage to get it to work?

Thinking of getting a remote with built in mouse but enabling mouse toggle on my shield makes my home button misbehave.

Currently, I run a Shield TV in my living room to watch a combination of Vue, Amazon, and Netflix. I also play NES, SNES, PSX, and N64 games (whoop multiplayer Beerio Kart!). A few days ago, my TV made a loud "poof" sound like a transformer exploding during a thunderstorm and is no longer operational.

So I'm looking at Sony's OLED because it'd be nice to have everything on the same platform and ditch the peripheral Shield box, as much as I love it, and even with the price premium over the LGs, which are much the same TV.

But I don't want to do so if the Sony hardware can't keep up with Mario Kart 64 and Goldeneye, for social reasons.

Any feedback or stories would be helpful. Thanks for any help or guidance!

I have Android on my Sony TV, and on the YouTube discovery bar, the recommended channels are complete garbage, the first one being Logan Paul. I've never watched any of his videos, in fact, I've never see anything from anyone being shown in the discovery bar, and have no desire to ever watch any videos from there ever...is there a way to change it?

I currently have a MINIX X8H that has gotten very slow and on its last legs. I mainly use it to play Anime files (10 bit H264, which it struggles with) off a USB or stream shows through websites using the Chrome browser. I am looking to purchase the Nvidia Shield TV. Would it be able to do streaming through a web browser? Are there any other alternatives to the MINIX box?

I extracted the DirecTv Now APK from the amazon fire stick over adb and was able to sideload it onto my bravia tv. When I started the app I was hit with the error that told me I needed the amazon appstore (as expected). I navigated to the download page and downloaded the amazon app store apk but when I launch the app it shows the mobile phone version of the amazon appstore and I am not able to switch between text fields to enter my username and password. I have tried pretty much every button on the remote as well as the android tv remote app on my android phone. Any idea whats going on and how I can navigate to the text fields?

I also had this issue with ES file explorer when I tried to login to drop box, I could not navigate to any text fields when the authentication page loaded. I still have not been able to resolve that issue and I ended up using google drive.

I'm new to android boxes and I want to know a good box to install kodi and that can handle my 8tb external drive.

I was looking at the Xiaomi Mi Box or the Beelink qt1 ultimate.

Do you think it will run with my external 8tb?

Or do you have any suggestions of boxes that works great with a big external hard drive.

I'll start by saying that I already know some of you will say "I haven't had any of these issues", and that's fine and believable, but I'm just giving my own experience so I don't really care

First of all, the "Android TV" app for my phone, which is used as a remote, can NEVER connect to my box. Google's support website says to try it with Bluetooth instead of wifi, and it STILL won't connect for me (it will show my box on the list of available devices, though). I have tried the app with multiple iPhones and I was only able to use the app within the first month or so of me buying the Mi Box. This could very easily be an issue with the app itself, but it's still part of the Android TV ecosystem and it's worth mentioning. Plus the app is still being updated so it's not even a case of abandoned development.

In terms of the actual device itself, the YouTube app will always begin playing a selected video, but it will pause and show a black screen until I press Play again. Not a big deal, but an annoying inconvenience. Further, when I try to cast a video from my phone to my box, the Mi Box will close the YouTube app as soon as I minimize the app on my phone.

Moving on to the Hulu app, I'd say 70% of the time when I go to start a video, it will begin playing with a black screen, forcing me to back out of the video and begin playing it again. Luckily I can usually get it to play properly right away after doing this, but there have been times when it took a few tries.

Thirdly, there are times (although infrequent) in which NO APP will play a video. I go to YouTube, get an error on every video I try to play. I go to Hulu, same thing. Same situation for every streaming app I have installed. This persists until I reboot the box (which is a pain in the ass in and of itself, but that's not an actual bug).

Does anyone else have a similar experience? Perhaps it's all the fault of the individual apps' developers, but the last issue I mentioned definitely isn't. And even if it DOES fall on the devs, there's no excuse for it still happening after we've had these devices and apps for so long. Nevermind getting shafted by Xiaomi in terms of software updates (which I'm still pissed off about), but then we get shafted by the app devs too? There's no way I'm the only one having these issues, even if nobody who replies to this has experienced it themselves.

Overall the box is still a big convenience to me, especially since I no longer use an Android phone. But these little issues have been annoying the hell out of me just because there's no excuse for it. I know the box is relatively cheap, but these are not issues akin to the hardware not being powerful enough to stream 4K video, for example (that reminds me, my TV is only 1080p so the resolution shouldn't be the cause of these issues).

Is there any way that I can make the Shield require a PIN to do anything, like a lock screen?

Need to prevent kids from using it at all hours.

I saw the 'restricted user' option but that just seems to lock out certain apps.

I just bought a 4K tv, using a high speed 2.0 hdmi cable connected to our MyGica ATV 495, with display settings on 4k 60hz but I can't seem to find a way to get the youtube app to show 4k in the quality settings, it always only goes up to 1080p. My tv shows that the screen is currently 4k resolution, just can't seem to get any 4k content playing from youtube. your help is appreciated.

Does anyone know how to extract the Sony Firmwares ? They are in this weird PKG format.

Can't find anything except Vita and PS3 PKG extractors, which don't work with Android TV PKGs.
