Sunday Ticket - Shield TV

Will the Sunday Ticket app work on the Shield TV? The Play Store says it's incompatible. I can sideload it but I figured I'd ask first before I went through the trouble. Thanks.

TED TV - Live Channels support is in development

I emailed these guys on October 29th. They were originally listed as one of the apps that would have Live Channels support back in the spring. The initial response I got was boiler plate:

Hi Andrroid,

Thanks for writing in!

I’m going to reach out to our development team for the most up to date information, and >I’ll write back to you just as soon as I know more.

Warmest regards,

Katie TED Support

Today I got a followup response:

Hey Andrroid,

I’ve looked into your request and indeed we are working on getting onto the Live Channels app, we’re just not quite ready to launch. Keep an eye out for TED content in the future, though. And thanks for your interest in TED!

Warm regards,

Mireille TED Support

So hopefully that will be +1 Live Channels source soon. Its not SlingTV but its something. Lesson of the story - email developers of apps you are interested in having Live Channels support! It might do nothing or it might perk some ears and get things rolling.

Please file a complaint to the FCC because Comcast blocks almost every app on Android TV

HBO Go, FXNow, FOXnow, Starz, and a bunch of other apps just won't work for Comcast subscribers like me. If anyone else is pissed off at Comcast for blocking Android TV but not Roku or Apple TV, file a complaint here: https://consumercomplaints.fcc.gov/hc/en-us (I filed it under internet, but it might go under TV too).

EDIT: To be clear, Comcast is not blocking the services themselves. Comcast is not allowing their cable subscribers to log in to their Comcast account so they can use things like HBO Go on Android TV, even though it is possible on Apple TV.

[Rant] I'm starting to feel like Android Tv is another google bust.

I opted for the most bad ass machine on the market (shield tv) and i feel like its a real under-achiever. i see potential, (sooo much fucking potential) but no real gusto. Gameloft's latest games aren't supported or broken. big hitters like Square Enix, WB, and Konami in the play store aren't supported. leanback blows, in app updates dont work. there are no good remotes. i've had to factory reset twice already. id be better off getting a decent phone at upgrade time and plugging it in MHL to HDMI. Is a working fucking Android home entertainment center just too much to ask? save your money if you want a kodi box and get yourself a pi. There's no such thing as Android TV gaming.

edit: thanks for the support guys, this is a platform i really want to get behind. I understand its quite a young and budding platform. i just run into problems at every turn (outside of geforce) which i spent some time with last night. I love it. even with my minimun requirement internet it worked flawlessly. i apologize for the attitude, but stand behind the rant. the power to handle the games is there, but the android dev community is seemingly at a loss with what to do with it, it needs work and lots of it.

As for taking a back seat to video content, i bought it at Gamestop, it came with a gamepad, not a remote. add the fact that absolutley everything from a smart watch to a chevy cruze plays video content, and notice its not exactly a unique feature.

Optimum TV App Sideload?

Every time I Sideload the optimum apk and log in, it tells me it's not the updated version and closes out. I'm pretty sure it's the most recent apk.

Does anyone knows if we are going to be able to use different accounts on the Music app, So far, Android TV is restricted to a single user, which is weird, because Android has multi-account support since a long time ago.

Sony Android TV Date and Time.

Since last two days network time doesn't work even when it's connected to WiFi. So I have to manually enter the time and date everyday for YouTube to work. Anyone else with this issue or know how to fix this?

Edit: So many people are facing this same issue. https://community.sony.com/t5/Television-Apps-Widgets/Internet-3D-and-Date-amp-Time-issue-with-Android-TV/td-p/518420

It seems mostly people from India are facing this? Anyone outside India have this problem?

Edit 2: Oh I think i found what the problem might be. I guess we Indians have a habit to turn TVs off from the switch at night. I think in America you all don't have a switch (right) so you keep the TV on and so are not facing this.

It's strange as since 4 months I always turned my TV off from the switch and it would keep the Time and Date right when is usd to turn it back on

Philips Android TV and ZTE router do not seem to match. Has anybody else seen such a behavior and has some tips?

In my house I have one general router from my ISP (ZTE type router) and an repeater connected to the router (ASUS type repeater). If I have ASUS repeater ON I'm able to see the TV on my phone when I click the screen cast and also connect to it from time to time. But if I turn the ASUS off and have everything connected to ZTE I can't even see the TV.

Have you seen anything similar?

Shield TV remote voice search not working?

I just got the Shield TV + remote, but whenever I try to use the voice search from the remote it doesn't work. The prompt comes up (usually), but it's as if the whole system does down and doesn't process my speech fast enough and then it fails. Voice searches from the controller are fine and work on the remote if it's plugged into the USB cord. I've tried rebooting the unit as well as forgetting both the remote and controller and then re-adding them but no change. I see a number of references online to this or similar issues but no fix other than a few NVidia comments saying upcoming patches should address it (which have already come out by now).

Has anyone seen this and/or found a reliable fix?

Is there any AndroidTV set, available out in the works, that does the following?

This would be for my parents who aren't too techy. They do use a Nexus smartphone though, and I thought Android TV could be a nice complement.

  • Mobile phone interface. Aside from remote control and USB keyboard, it would be nice to have a mobile phone based interface. One that for instance allowed to use Google keyboard to input text when using Android TV apps. Or as a generic Android TV remote control.

  • Video calls using smartphone camera. Set the mobile next to the TV, and be able to video call with Hangouts or Viber.

  • Allows for SuperSU + Adaway. I would set that up of course. Ads can be a pain.

If these aren't supported, any idea if they are being worked on for the short term?

Also would this be something I could eventually get with a software update (e.g. on Nexus player) or am I better if waiting for something new?

The Nexus Player's Android 6.0.1 update brings "lots of performance improvements and bugfixes" but unfortunately, the "washed-out colors" bug when playing HW-accelerated video has not been fixed since Google is still working on the issue with hardware partners.

How to enable Unknown Sources on Philips Android TV?

Hi, I've been trying to enable Uknown Sources on my Philips 40PFH6550 Android TV as I want to install some apk's on it. Here's what I tried so far:

  1. I installed Terminal Emulator for Android on the TV and typed: am start --user 0 -n com.android.settings/.SecuritySettings. This unlocked the previously hidden Security Settings menu for me but the Unknown Sources setting was greyed out so no way to enable it.

  2. I installed Developer Tools app on the TV to enable the USB debugging and then try to install apps via the ADB but I see no option for turning on the USB debugging in the Developer settings.

I'm probably missing something? Please give me some ideas what to try next. Thanks!
