So, I have been running my plex server off a sandy bridge core i5 computer for some time now. Its worked relatively well but then i got to thinking about it and remembered my shield can be used as a plex server. Ill still be using the PC to host the media as i do also use Kodi as well. According to plex, I can used SMB over my gigabit ethernet network to leave the media where its at. So i guess the question is: performance? The Shield is newer and should be in theory able to handle newer formats.

Right now, most everything works. Would the Shield give me any noticeable advantage over the pc? Would the Shield be a step backwards?

So I'm getting this error message at random. I turned on my shield and it was up on the screen. I did some googling and I'll be damned if I can figure out why it's giving me this error.

I've never attempted to unlock my bootloader (unless it comes from the factory unlocked) - I also can't figure out how to fix it/if it's fixable....

I have a Mi box S and would like to know is there a remote that can control the Android box and my sound bar? I can't find anyone else trying to do this and the explanations of the popular G20 remote shows it pairing with a tv but not a sound bar or tell if volume buttons can be programmed. Soundbar is IR via optical out so no arc.

I'm trying to add sideloaded apps to their own custom channel in the "leanback" launcher. The only other app I found for doing this is TV App Repo but it looks like it was removed from the play store for some reason. Is there another app for doing this that I'm missing? Adding sideloaded apps to the main "Apps" launcher would also be okay, in fact that would be preferred but I couldn't find any that do that.

I bought a Xiaomi Mi Box S and it's intermittently dropping the Wi-Fi connection. When it does work I get 4 bars. I'm streaming video from SMB on LAN with Kodi and sometimes it works fine for a long time but then it starts buffering or completely stopping playback because the network is disconnected. It also happens with other apps, and sometimes the Wi-Fi network state is randomly changed to "Disabled" or it says the saved password is incorrect. This happens with both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.

I have the mi box 3. When I say something like "play black panther" it pulls it up for half a second then it says "I looked for black panther but it isn't available right now". But when I just say the word "black panther". It pulls it up just fine. This happens with all movies and TV shows. Anyone else have this?

I have a shield, use it all three time, on our main tv, and love it. I have a 125" projector we don't use a lot, but like to watch movies on it. We have a 4k mibox that has apparently given up the ghost. I can't get it to show a picture via HDMI, but the light on the front comes on. But no signal to the projector. (A fix for this would be nice).

Anyway, should I get another mi box , or a fire stick, or something else? I love the shield, just thinking I'd rather take a step down to save some dough. I'm fairly tech savvy. Need to be able to install Kodi.

I’ve noticed that when I power off my Sony x930e, it starts opening more and more tcp connections to Google owned ip addresses on 5228 and 443. In an hour it opened closed to 100 and never closes the ones on 5228, even after I power the TV back on. Basically the number of open connections on port 5228 keeps growing and growing until I reboot the TV or unplug the Ethernet cable.

I also notice that the TV is refreshing it’s IP address via DHCP at least once every 10 minutes when in standby. Usually it’s every few minutes. This despite the lease time being set to 24 hours on my router.

I first saw this problem a few months ago, but it eventually seemed to resolve itself, but now under the last war Sony Oreo update (6.6510), it’s back with a vengeance as it’s worse then ever. It used to take 24 hours to open 100 connections.

At some point the TV appears to stop listening for ip control requests or remote start commands (can’t turn on with Google Home or Alexa), likely because all the connections are used up.

Any ideas what’s going on here or how to resolve this?

Hi, i have a Sony Android TV model (kd55x7005d Brazil) and after the software update V6.6510 (released in may 28) the TV doesn't connect to my WiFi network but works on mobile hotspots (such as personal access on iPhone). Any suggestions for resolving this issue?

I have a Philips Android TV model 40PFH550/881.
When ever I try to cast to it from my S8+ or from crhome with w10, the TV restarts.
The current Softward Version is: QM152E.0.7.70.0
I can stream the desktop, youtube etc without a problem.
The issue is when I am choosing cast "Source"
I can't find any information about this specific issue.

It would be really helpful if we could just maintain the back arrow ← for like 3sec to "force close" an app.

I have a TCL C6 on Oreo and videos on YouTube slightly exceed the screen. There's an option to change the aspect ratio but videos still appear to be cropped. When searching the web, the common suggestion is to disable overscan but it also doesn't help. I think it only applies to external inputs. I've tried Smart YouTube Player but it has the same issue and seems to buffer a lot more than the official app. I can live with it but there might be a simple solution I'm not aware of.

Are there any good (mp3) audio players for Android TV? I've looked through the TV play store and they all seem to be poor. There don't seem to be any audiobook players either..

Anyone here managed to extract the Patchwall App apk from any of the Indian Mi TVs out there?

I received my G20 remote yesterday. Plugged the USB receiver into my Shield and the remote was working flawlessly. A couple hours later I decided to try to program the IR power button to turn off the TV. After a few tries I got that to work as well.

Fast forward about an hour later... Now the remote isn't controlling anything. Won't turn the TV on or off...won't control the Shield. Anytime I press a button it just does a slow flash on red light. I tried replacing batteries, and unplugging and replugging the USB dongle. Any other ideas?

Hi guys, i have sony bravia xe9005, connected via lan cable to my router, my internet is working fine on all androidtv apps but google play store. Tried to delete servises framework data and cache as play store app cache. Reboot also didnt help, there is just message that there is noninternet connection, and to check mobile network etc. My google account on tv is the same as on my phone (which is rooted but i hope it dont mind) but here is all good i have access and can download apps. I am wanting to know if when I cast a Youtube video from my android phone can the video go to the monitor attached via HDMI and the audio go to the speaker attached via Aux or Bluetooth (both connected to the outlets on the Mi Box?

I switch between my phone and TV alot with my headphones, is there any easy way to reconnect to a Bluetooth with the headphones still on? When I click the device it only says "change name" & "unpair"

Works easily on my phone, just click the Bluetooth device. I wonder if there is an app I can download? About to try 'Bluetooth swipe settings"

Edit nope that app will let you turn on/ off Bluetooth though. Keep your phone nearby with the Android TV app if you have a Bluetooth remote!

Besides YouTube, is there a place I can upload a mp4 file and have it play?
