Prevent a single app from updating

I've read that there's a way to lock an app (prevent it from updating) via ADB but not having much luck on finding how to do it on Android TV and the only instructions I'm finding for it on Android is via the Play Store UI, but that option isn't available on Android TV.

Anyone have any idea how to keep a single app from updating?

Can't watch Google Play Movies

I have a Sony XBR -75X900E and Google play just doesn't want to stream. Any other app or service works perfectly. Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, you name it! Google play just doesn't work and my dad invested way to much money to reject Google play movies now. I've cleared cache, reconnected WiFi, and even puchased Google WiFi routers (which are amazing). My TV is up to date on the 7.0 update.

I just updated my Bravia TV to Oreo and...

I had to end up doing a forced factory reset!

It went through the update no problem; but when it rebooted it just went to a black screen. It started working after that.

Is it commonplace for Sony TV updates to 'break' the TV?

How to share a PC media folder to VLC on androidTV

Hello guys,

Before I reset my computer I had a shared folder of my media that I could access on my androidTV via VLC as long as the computer was turned on and connected to the local network. But now that I have reset my computer I don't seem to be able to configure it again. I shared the folder and I go to VLC on the TV and the computer shows up but it's asking me for a password this time around. If you could help me that would be great.

Thanks in advance for any impute.

Best box for strictly Kodi?

I use my PC for Netflix or other sites, so I only want this box to use Kodi to get access to blockbuster movies and things of that nature.

My only factors that I care about is:

Price and how easily I can install Kodi without tinkering and constantly updating

Anyone have any recommendations?

edit: thanks for the suggestions guys, I will be looking into the Amazon FireTV or Xiaomi Mini S since I'm budget conscious atm.

edit2: just ordered the firetv stick 4k. thanks guys for the help. lots of useful comments here

Copying files to and from the mibox S

Hey guys so I downloaded a big ass file to my mibox (over a 100 gigs) since I'm using a shared 1tb drive and was going to transfer it to my laptop but it turns out there's no way to either mount the drive using any program on windows and apparently I cant even copy the files to a usb drive for whatever fucking reason.

So I'm just asking is there any way I can transfer it out of my box without having to send it ota as my internet is beyond garbage and would just basically be the same thing as redownloading it.

Thanks :)

Recommendation for Low Tier TV/Internet Access

Hi All,

I've been flipping through the subreddit and it's been very helpful so far to teach me the difference between an Android TV and the piece of junk box from Alibaba at my dad's place. So thanks for that. One thing though is that most recommendations are geared towards getting the most out of top end systems with good internet connections.

Well I've not got one of those good setups, my setup is very limited. So limited I might get value and meet my use cases out of a less expensive or older model Android TV (or an alternative product).

My setup is as follows: 1080p LG TV

5mbps Internet service

Sony HT-IS 1000 micro surround sound

Located in Canada

Chromecast

I cannot get better internet. That's not part of the equation, and I won't benefit from 4K because my internet is so slow.

What I would like to do, if possible, is use the following legitimate Android apps on my TV. Preferably with a remote. Preferably with a snappy interface.

Amazon Prime

Netflix

CRAVE TV

Bell FibeTV

Crunchyroll

Curiosity stream

Global Go / CTV Go

Google Play Music

Amazon Prime Music

YouTube

Twitch

I don't care if the thing runs Kodi or not. I really just don't want to go high end if I don't have to since I get little extra value per extra dollar. I was thinking about FireTV but it won't do the BellFibeTV app or youTube. Chromecast of course won't do Amazon or BellFibeTV. Any recommendations are much appreciated.

Quick Access from remote? "Magic remote"?

Hi guys,

I recently bought LG with webOS and I'm somehow disappointed with the OS itself. I think I want to switch to something with AndroidTV (either Sony or Philips). However before I do the switch I have 2 questions:

  1. LG has 'quick access' function that gives the possibility to use numeric 1-9 buttons on the remote as shortcuts to chosen apps. For example 'long-press 1' = HBO GO, 'long-press 2' = Youtube. That's actually quite nice. Can I do something similar with AndroidTV Sony/Philips? Both have dedicated Netflix button which is great, but I'd also like to have shortcuts well.. For HBO and Youtube :)

  2. LG have this 'magic remote' that my wife really like. Does any of the competitors have something similar with 'pointer/mouse' functionality?

  3. Finally.. Is it standard to have TV woken-up via WIFI? For example, tv is off, and I want to send my youtube video from the phone to the TV. It does work with LG, I think that's standard now, but I prefer to ask :)

I'm thinking either Philips PUS7303 or Sony X75 or Sony X80.
