I have a rather old TV (first gen LG with WebOS) and a few months ago I decided to do an upgrade. Since the TV still works perfect from an image quality point of view, I decided that the best approach would be to buy an Android TV Box. There are many Chinese brands that offer such devices but, having a Zidoo in the abst that was really really bad, I wanted something made for TV us. So I decided to go with one that has AndroidTV, not the standard Android with a buggy skin on top. There were a few solutions: Xiaomi Mi Box and A no-name brand with only X88 in the name (this should be the first red flag).

Now, I though that because it has Android TV and Widevine L1, everything should be OK. Opened the box, started the device and at first everything seems OK. It was indeed Android TV.

1. First problem, Chromecast does not work. I see the device, but nothing can cast to it. Every time I try I get 'connection error'.
2. Second Problem. Netflix does not work. BIG Issue.
3. From time to time (but not frequent) the device will freeze and a restart is needed.

I contacted the seller and he said that they know and will have a fix soon. In about a week and a half an update was pushed an Netflix worked. I can even update the app and everything was OK. So I started using the device for about 6 months. When suddenly, Netflix does not work again. Updated app, cleared cache, cleared data, etc. Nothing worked. Searching on the forums I saw that for others the same issue happened at the same time. It seems that Netflix probably no longer allows this device since it is not officially licensed.

I know that this is a problem for TV Boxes that do not have Widevine L1 or Android TV, but I was not expecting this box to have the problem.

So, as a warning, stick to the Xiaomi boxes. They are officially licensed by Google and should not have this problem.

I just bought a Mi Box but I believe it is broken.

It doesnt start or pair with my TV. I tried two different TVs, different ports and differents HDMI cables.

I have a PS4, an Apple TV and they work fine.

My TVs just wont pair with the device. There is a white light so Im not sure whats the problem. I searched and tried using the reset thing (center button + back button) and I even saw youtube videos, but I dont even get to the first set up screen for the remote.

Any recommendation?

I have an android tv box that i got from my tv and internet provider (sbb in serbia) and when i install netflix from apktoid it says error 14 unsupported device. Whats the cause of this and what is the solution? I am guessing some widevine shit

not sure if i had this issue before but now my TV turns it self on ALL THE TIME ,turn the TV off leave the room 15 minutes later fucking TV is back on again !

in HDMI CEC i ony 3 (autistic as fuck) options

CEC switch

one key play

one key power off

i leave CEC switch set to on

i have no clue what the other 2 options are supposed to be for

but when i switch off the option for "one key play" ( whatever the fuck that is supposed to mean)

then my CEC does not work at all

and when i switch it on... well my CEC then sort of works , but if the TV is off you have to sit there mashing buttons on the remote for 15 minutes before the TV responds and turns on ,

but when that setting is set to on then my TV keeps on turning itself on every god damn 15 to 20 minutes

Hi Everyone,

Wondering if anyone else has managed to recover their MDZ-16-AB from a complete brick i.e. no light in front when connecting power.

I have tried booting into recovery but that did not work.

I looked online for test points to boot into "worldcup" or "jurassicpark" mode but can't find test points to short (only available for MDZ-16-AA)

Any help would be appreciated.

I just had a mi box today and i wanted to add an external hard drive to add more space.

I plugged the external drive which got recognized and i decided to format it as i ternal storage.

Problem is that it is now 1h that the screen is stuck on the formatting screen, and i wonder if people had same issue? (my disk is 500 GO)

Other issue is that usually unplugging the disk might kill it.

How long did that operation took for you??

I want to share photos and videos on a cloud-connected device with a family member in a nursing home who is not able to control a phone or remote control, and who has people around who can change the input source on the TV.

Is there a way to do this?

I have a fire stick and a Chromecast. Neither seem to do video. I like to use the Google photos app on my phone for uploading new media to a specific album - and this is easy for most of my family to view with any device.

An aside - One other thing I don't like about Chromecast is you can't control it on public wifi, which is all my older family member has access to. Apparently that's because it uses a phone as a remote via WiFi and it requires disabling the router's isolation mode which is usually on on public wifi, including at this nursing home.

On the Fire TV stick I can skip in 10 second steps forward and backward by pressing arrow right/left. This doesn't work with the Android TV App on my Philips 55PUS73039. Is there any way to enable this feature?

Ok, so I upgraded my Netflix plan to ultra to get 4k and HDR.

Haven't got to test too many shows, but stranger things isn't playing in hdr...it lists it, but doesn't do it when I play it. On the other hand the defenders works with hdr, and it lists it as HDR10......is stranger things dolby vision only or something? Because the mi box s can't do dolby vision (even though my TV can).

Also, I thought stranger things was supposed to be in 4k, however it does not list it next to the HDR tag?

Current settings:

-Connected to Vizio P quantum, with HDMI input set to UHD color

-Display resolution auto detect turned off and manually set to 4k@60hz (auto sets it to 720p)

-Color space set to 10bit

-HDR to SDR, turned to off

-SDR to HDR, turned to off

Any help would be great!

I could not for the life of me find an answer to this online. I know that CBS over the air is religated to 1080i30 per ATSC limitations. If anyone has information that would help me greatly. Thank you in advanced.

This has just started happening recently that whenever i play something on the box on YouTube it glitches and reboots and gets stuck on the boot animation...either it will get u into a bootloader type menu and ask u to reboot or factory reset saying that the data is corrupted or then u have to turn off the power to reset it...anyone else facing this ?

Hi, I bought this tv a month ago and whenever i change the input to any hdmi ports I get this pop up that says "tv storage has quit" the only option to click is close app then this redirects me to the home screen. I don't know what to do I have already reset it back to factory settings a few times and went trough all of the menus and can't seem to find anything that helps. would there be an easy fix that I am missing or should i take it back to the store? I have a new Vizio P quantum, which requires you to go to each input and turn on full UHD color, so did that, then I went into the settings of the Mi Box S and changed the display to 4K@60hz & 10bit color, also changed "HDR to SDR" to off (to make sure the box wasn't trying to turn HDR content to SDR) restarted the box and the TV. On the youtube app on the mi box, I can get 4K no problem, but I have tried about 5-6 different videos that have HDR and when i hit the info button on the tv remote it says normal color mode, not HDR. I read a post somewhere that said they had to factory reset the Mi box s to get it to activate, but I would prefer not having to set it all up again.
