Any way to refresh the advertised shows on the home screen?

For the longest time I've had the exact same ads on my home screen. Law and Order SVU, James Franco on SNL, and worst of all The Orville. I can't quite explain why, but I hate Seth MacFarlane and I don't want to see his face every time I open up the home screen. I've never watched any of those programs on streaming, and as it is I rarely use the app that stream from (Hulu).

Is anybody else facing this problem? Advertisements were what made me reluctant to get a smart TV in the first place but I figured it wouldn't be so bad.

Method to extract Android TV app Thumbnails

I've switched to using Kodi as my launcher as everyone in my household dislikes the Oreo layout. I have set everything up very nicely now using the Titan skin and it blends with the Android TV OS pretty seemlessly.

I'd like to have a few android apps on the homescreen using the same 16:9 thumbnail that ATV apps would have on the regular home screen - is there a method of extracting these from the apks? Or has anyone come across any thumbnail packs that might suit my needs?

Many thanks.

Alexa can't find Smart TV (SONY X7000D)

I've got a "SONY X7000D", and I'm trying to link Alexa to my Smart TV (SONY X7000D). However, Alexa can't find my TV when searching for devices.

I already tried:

  • Reboot TV.
  • Reboot Alexa device.
  • Sony's Android TV Skill is enabled and linked to my Amazon account.
  • Smart TV's Alexa app is linked to my Amazon account.
  • Smart TV has the option "Remote Start" enabled.

Don't know what else to do.. ideas?

Cheers!

First time with an android tv box, need some help

Hello all, so I'm currently living in China and got an android TV box and installed Express VPN on it and was ready to then start installing all the apps needed to enjoy a decent life on my sofa after work.

I have a MINIX Neo U1, installed an older version of Netflix, which still only played videos at like 140p.

I installed bbc iplayer app, which didn't work at all, yet when i watched iplayer directly from the website, it worked fine. I have Kodi but don't understand what it is for. Is there an All 4 apk that works? Do they need to be in Kodi? Looking for British TV if you haven't guessed yet.

I could do with some tips and links and apks to figure out how to properly set up my TV box.

Thanks

The Amazon Fire TV remote is half off at $15. It's probably the best Nvidia Shield remote if you don't need voice control.

I much prefer this to the Nvidia remote because it has actual volume control buttons and takes AA batteries instead of 3v lithium coins.

Questions about Android Boxes in general

So I just moved out from home where we had an "android tv" (Sony Bravia Smart Tv) and I am looking for something similiar to attach to a cheap TV (1280 x 720p).

I compared Amazon Firestick, chromecast and android tv boxes and am currently leaning towards an android box.

My budget is around 50 to 60€ (germany)

My most important questions are:

  1. Can you watch Amazon Prime and Netflix without any workarounds or loss of quality?
  2. Can you mirror your screen (phone and windows pc)
  3. Can you cast youtube directly from the android app?
  4. Is there anything really important to know for a complete beginner?

Thanks a lot and sorry for being such new to this

EDIT: Since Mibox seems like the best option... Does it support Amazon Prime Video?

Linux (ish?) distro running on Android TV?

I have an Nvidia Shield and I'd like to make more of it as a server. I've been doing some reading about Linux deploy:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.meefik.linuxdeploy&hl=en_GB

That seems to allow you to install a full Linux distro on an Android device. Has anyone done this on Android TV? If so, how did it work out?

Are there other approaches? Could I root and install SSH, a package manager etc directly?

App to display a website as a screensaver?

So I'm wanting to do my own version of the netflix slideshow with tv show logos and my own server logo, rather than just create loads of images and serve them as a slideshow I want to do it dynamically with a website.

Wondering if anyone has seen an app that will allow me to display a website as the screensaver?

AndroidTV sporadically losing audio?

This issue first appeared a few days ago, and I'm wondering if it's my setup or if others are experiencing the same.

Philips 55PUS7272/12 running Oreo with HDMI/ARC connected to a Sonos Beam.

While watching Netflix or Youtube, or anything through AndroidTV, the audio suddenly falls silent. It's not just a Netflix problem, because switching to something else, like YouTube or Play Music, doesn't cause audio to return. What does bring the audio back is switching to basic DVB-C, and then when switching back to AndroidTV the issue is gone until the next time.

I'm not excluding the possibility that it might be a Sonos issue, so I'll be disconnecting my Beam tonight and seeing if the issue arises with the TV's internal speakers instead.

So, anyone else seeing this?

Is there any way to control the volume of my sound system connected via optical cable?

I just got a Sony 55x900f (and I have a Razer Leviathan audio system), so I'm still learning what are my limits with this hardware.

Right now, whenever I want to control the volume, I have to stand up, approach the Razer Leviathan and press the buttons.

Is it possible to control the volume of my Razer Leviathan (that is connected via optical cable) by simply using the TV remote?

(I'm on Android 7, btw)

How can I play videos with DTS audio?

I just got a Sony 55x900f (and I have a Razer Leviathan audio system). I'm still on Android 7, btw.

I downloaded a 4k HDR video with DTS audio and noticed that no player could output sound (I tried the default Video app, Kodi, Mx Player and VLC).

After searching some more I noticed that VLC has an option to pass audio directly to the sound system. With this setting on, I can listen the audio perfectly. But, VLC keeps stuttering from scene to scene.

The video located on a USB 3.0 HDD (connected to the only USB 3.0 port available on my TV), I'm not sure if this is an issue with a possible slow HDD because the other apps can play the video without stuttering (but of course, without sound).

Is is pottible to get StbEmu channels in Live Channels?

Can TVirl do this kind of thing? I'd love to eliminate StbEmu for most things if possible, but every app I look at seems to want an m3u playlist and doesn't seem to have any options for a portal or the like. Being able to integrate my HD Homerun and other channels would be amazing. Any thoughts? Maybe even an app that is a little less janky than StbEmu.

Sorry if this is the wrong sub for this, if so let me know where I should post this to. Thanks!
