Easiest way to install Amazon Prime Video on Android TV (Mibox S)?

My Mibox arrived today and I am really happy, however I want to sideload Amazon prime video...

There are tutorials on different versions but I can't figure out what the most stable version is and how to easily install it.

Any help is appreciated!

-------EDIT-------

I managed to install this via Aptoide TV.

  1. Download ES file explorer on your phone

  2. Download the Aptoide TV apk on your phone

  3. If you have already installed ES file explorer on your TV, open it and select "receive" (or sth similar)

  4. Click the Aptoide tv apk on your phone (in es explorer) and click send

  5. It should transfer to your tv

  6. Install Aptoide TV

  7. Install Prime Video

Question from beginner about flashing vanilla Android TV OS onto a TV Box

Hey everyone - reddit is usually a cool place to get advice for things like this so I wanted to try asking.

I read the initial post of this subreddit....and realized I have a T9 android TV box bought from Amazon, a paid a decent amount of money for it (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07K76QB3J), but it falls into the category that is not an android tv os box and just runs a custom android version which is pretty horrible, Netflix doesn't work on it, there is no voice control capability through a voice remote I have bought separately, bad wifi connection and several other deficiencies.

Having had a proper Android TV Box before, I want to get back to that experience and have the vanilla Android TV OS on the device, but am not 100% sure how to go about it (or if it is possible). I have seen instructions online for flashing images onto the device, which I'm fine to do, but with little knowledge about this area it's hard for me to select which one is best and I don't want to go bricking the device.

So, a few quick questions for anyone willing to spare the time:

  1. Is Android TV OS open source and free to download? Are there any licensing restrictions for flashing it on a device I have properly purchased?
  2. How can I get the latest legitimate Android TV OS image, and know which sources are trusted?
  3. Are there other open source alternatives people can suggest that I can flash onto the device to get an experience similar to vanilla Android TV OS?
  4. How can I tell which images are right for the particular device I have? All I really have on the device is the label "T9" and a serial number (and the purchase link above).

I am just hoping there is a way I can get the vanilla Android TV OS on this device but am looking for some direction on where to get started, any advice or help is much appreciated!

Philips TV not remembering Device Name

I own a Philips 55PUS7303 running Android TV. I found the option to rename the device and changed it to "Living Room TV" so that I can refer to it more easily with Google Home. This works fine for a little while, but then without warning seems to revert to the factory default setting of 55PUS7303/12 (I've no idea how the 12 gets in there!)

Has anybody else had this problem, with this or any other Android TV? Is there something I'm doing wrong, or something I can do to prevent it? Is this worth returning the TV over? (I'm well within the warranty returns window).

It's frustrating, because otherwise I'm absolutely in love with this set :/

Google Home able to Control Sony Android TV's Youtube TV

Hi,

Wondering if anyone has successfully be able to tell their Google Home (I have the mini, FYI), "play NBC on Youtube TV" for a Sony TV with Android TV. I am able to do it with my dumb TV's via their Chromecasts in other rooms.

If I do it with the Sony with the built in Android TV /built in Chromecast, it says, "Ok, playing NBC on Youtube TV........Sorry, something went wrong. When you're ready, give it another try."

If I say, "Hey Google play Big Bang Theory" on Youtube TV while it's on the air, it will switch just fine, without even naming the channel. Once it's there, if I say, "Tune to CNN" or "Tune to NBC", it does the same thing....it says, "Ok playing NBC on Youtube TV....sorry, something went wrong..."

I'm also successful in saying "Hey Google, play Star Trek on Netflix" for this TV, by the way.

Is this function supposed to be supported?

For what it's worth, I have the Sony 49" X800E series.

MiBox lagging a lot

Hi folks,

I've got a 2+ year old MiBox (MDZ-16-AB) running mainly Kodi @ 1080p. Lately (I would say since the last update to 8.0.0) I've been noticing it starts lagging a lot after it's been running for couple of hours, so esentially requiring a reboot every day, so it becomes useful again.

I've uninstalled / disabled all the apps I don't need, as I use my TV for Netflix / Amazon Prime (HDR / Dolby Vision) and MiBox is only used for Kodi, but it's still lagging to no end.

By lagging I mean you can see a noticable delay between click on remote and GUI action and all animations seem to run in slow-motion.

Anybody experiencing the same issue?

PS: I'm using Ugreen Gigabit Ethernet adapter, if it makes any difference.

Unsupported SanDisk USB drive on Xiaomi MI Box s

Hi guys I've just finished setting up my new xiaomi MI box s by downloading the latest android update and downloading a few apps and emulators, but I'm running into an issue. I plugged in my 64gb SanDisk USB 3.0 drive with a few ROMS and mp4 files, but I get a notification saying "unsupported SanDisk USB Drive", I tried formatting it in both ntfs and exfat but nothing worked, I then tried to format it using the built in android TV formatter but it ran into an error whole formatting, what should I do? Thanks!

New mi box s questions

Hello, I have recently bought a mi box s - my first android TV. I have connected it to my FHD TV and set the resolution at 1080 60hz (as is supported by my TV). The setup went great but I am facing a few problems:

  1. my router (2.4Ghz g/b/mixed band) sits just 3 feet away from the mibox and gives excellent signals. Although my FUP limit expired I get 2mbps on all my devices. However, I am getting almost 0 speed on mi box s to the point that even Youtube app does not open and asks for checking internet [ the internet works fine on other devices]. I then tried 2.4ghz band hotspot from my samsung and voila, the device worked fine on my 4G with nice streaming. the phone was kept like a feet away from box. PLEASE HELP solving it as I need the box to run on my home wifi [3 ft away from box]
  2. I left the system off [simple power button click on remote] for 30 minutes and when I returned there was an extreme stutter. I hoped that it would go away after a minute but it did not. What to do for this?
  3. Any basic apps you would like to recommend for me to download on the box? suggestions please :D

Mibox s (70€) or new Amazon Fire Stick (40€)? Help from owners?

I am looking for a device that I can watch Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, kodi (with add-ons) and cast my phone screen to.

The only devices that fit my needs are the two mentioned above but since I don't own any of these and don't know if they have any drawbacks or something I need some input.

I know youtube is not working on most fire sticks but my friend has the new one and he can cast videos from his phone. Also screen casting is difficult on the Amazon stick. The one I am looking into is coming out in about a week.

What scares me are the bad reviews on the mibox here in Germany.... But for me it looks like the better option.

Does anyone own these devices and can recommend me one?

Also is there any easy way to mirror your phone screen on the fire stick? The airscreen app is not the best solution...

Thanks a lot guys!

Plex requesting 720kbps transcode on every play, ignoring settings

Every time I start playback on my Mi Box S or Jetstream, according to the logs, Plex is requesting playback at 720kbps. Local and remote are set to Maximum, all other settings look fine. Both are hardwired ethernet.

Once the video starts I can change the bitrate manually, but it's a pain and guests/family don't know what's happening other than it looks like crap!

Has anyone seen this behavior? I'm posting here instead of the Plex forums because this is not an issue on Fire, Roku or any other device.
