Best IPTV app for AndroidTV box

Hi to everyone Like a lot of people I would like to use my Android TV box (a Mi Box) to stream IPTV

For you what is the best IPTV app for AndroidTV ? I insist on AndroidTV, not Android (I know it's possible to sideload apps but there are most of time not usable easily with the remote... Obliged to use a keyboard... But if an app is fully usable with the remote let me know)

For you what is the best experience ?

Thanks a lot

Mi Box 3 for less than $20 from China

What's up with all those Mi Box 3 offerings going on in eBay for less than $20 (~$16). I purchased one before eBay toke the seller down. Today another offering is up with the same thing and I don't know how long it will be there before eBay take an action. Can anyone tell if this is legit or not?

Nvidia shield 2017 and Harmony Hub

Hi All,

Quick question: Can the Nvidia Shield be turned on/off using the Harmony Hub? I know it uses BT for communication, but for some reason thought there was some exception with respect to the on/off functions.

Are there any other limitations?

Thanks!

Upgrade to my Minix Neo U-1

Hi everyone!

So I have a minix neo u-1 for quite some years now and I was thinking it's time for an upgrade. The box works relatively well, but I'm tired of sitting at marshmallow. I was thinking of upgrading to a box running Android TV to give it a try, is the Shield still the best choice or should I look into something else more recent?

I mostly use the box as IPTV streamer (with STB Emu) and media center (openelec sideloaded, i'm running a plex server using a Pi).

The gaming side is not that important as I have a ps4, but sure, some old emulators could be fun.

Where would I find an updated ROM for M8S?

A couple years ago now I convinced my parents to switch over to using the M8S Android box for Netflix, YouTube, and the occasional movie I rip and put on Plex. For the most part it's been running quite well, with only the occasional restart to fix any issues.

Android 4.0 (I think that's what they are running) is starting to show its age. I've had to install Aptoide TV to download previous versions of apps for them to work.

We are still on the stock firmware that came with the unit, and I was wondering if there was an update or alternative ROM that I could use on these units (we have 3 of them spread throughout the house).

FitzyTV is what Live Channels should have been

I've been trying to get Xfinity's app working properly on my Shield for years. It's ok as it is but you have to navigate with a mouse. I also just moved recently and lost the OTA locals, I can no longer receive them from my new house.

I just discovered FitzyTV, which integrates both Xfinity's live streaming channels with Locast for the locals complete with an EPG. It's very basic right now but it does what I needed it to do.

It's amazing it took me over 3 years to find an app like this for the Shield.

And no I don't work for them, I'm just amazed I finally found an EPG that lets me finally use both Xfinity's Stream channels with locals and be able to navigate properly.

Looking for a new box

Hi Everyone,

I am a original shield owner... I am looking into getting a new device because of some issues with the shield which I don't think will ever be fixed unless a new shield comes out?

  1. HDR colorspace issues? (did improve with an update but reds still have an orange-ish tint to them compared to 709 colorspace (I am sure other users get this also)

  2. Lack of YouTube HDR support (I know the shield lacks VP9 profile 2 HW support(its also un-sure if a software-decoder is possible, even though older Pixel devices got this)

  3. Lack of EAC3 audio support

  4. Lack of Dolby Vison & HLG Support

Honestly I don't think a device exists from what I've looked but thought it was worth a try... If not I'll wait and see if a new shield get released or see what the JBL Link Bar brings if it ever releases!

Mi Box (MDZ-16-AB) upgrade from 6.0.1 (699) to 8.0 (2396)

After a couple of weeks of research I bought a Mi Box last week. I was advised not to upgrade to Oreo because of the problems, but to update to build 1901.

I wanted to see how the system runs with the purchased firmware before I do anything.

I wanted an Android box for three reasons. I have a Plex media server machine with a DVB-S/S2 card so I use it for Plex, Kodi with TVheadend and YouTube.

YouTube did freeze all the time (I did update all the apps in the Play Store), sometimes waking up the device did not work and had some problems with HDMI-CEC ( Philips 32PFL4007H/12 ).

Yesterday I saw that my box was downloaded the Oreo update and only waits for a reboot to install it. I did read about before that there was some auto upgrades for some users. I want to know what and when is happening to my devices so I decided to upgrade.

The procedure was:

  1. Factory reset from settings (not in recovery)
  2. Setup the box for the first time
  3. Turn off auto-update in Play Store and remove the updates if did already
  4. Download upgrade in the settings (no USB drive attached)
  5. Reboot to install
  6. Factory reset from settings (not in recovery)
  7. Setup the box for the first time

I did install the updates in Play Store and turned off auto-update.

Kodi, Plex and YouTube works as it should. I did not have any issues with them. HDMI-CEC works great. With 2.4GHz Wi-Fi I had some dropouts so I changed to 5GHz and now everything is OK.

I thought, I should share my experience with people who may thinking about upgrade.

Also have to say that I did NOT tried Netflix, Hulu, RedBull TV... Only the mentioned apps I use.

Appropriate method for connecting Mi Box, TV and surround sound system

So I have a Mi Box 4k, Samsung UN40J5350 TV, and Sony DAV-DZ870W 5.1 home theatre.

The Mi Box has HDMI and 3.5/SPDIF audio out. The TV has HDMI ins and optical audio out, and the home theatre only has analogue and optical audio in (I know, it’s old, but it’s the only one I have).

Which is the correct way of connecting it all, Mi Box > HDMI to TV and TV > optical audio to home theatre?
