Lag issues normal?

Are serious issues with lag normally a problem with Android TV. I have a 2 year old sony bravia that can't stream video and change the volume at the same time. Even just changing the volume literally causes serious audio and video issues for the next 20 seconds or so. I don't want to buy a new TV so I was wondering if this is an issue if i were to buy an Android TV box or something.

Where is my DVR record button?

I have a shield with storage mounted. In live channels, I select a program hit the middle button then up. I can see the pause, forward, back all that. I can use time shift. Shouldn't there be a red icon I can click to record on that bar?

Mecool M8S Pro L Remote - How to pair

Ordered this remote in order to use it with the Nvidia Shield (because volume control on the shield remote is absolute BS).

As it took me a while to figure out how to put it in pairing mode, I thought I would post it for the archives. πŸ˜‰

How to put remote in pairing mode: Press volume down (-) and center (OK)Β for approx. 2-3 seconds

Side note: the voice button doesn't work with the shield don't know why and don't really care either.

Anyone know when sony tvs with better Mediatek Soc will come out?

There was a news story earlier in the year about Sony TVs in the Fall having a better Soc for running Android TV.

I haven't seen any recent updates though. Maybe someone here has an idea when such sets would launch.

Connecting Sony XBR55X900E via ethernet kills entire network

Having a bit of a crazy problem, and despite being an IT professional by trade, I'm scratching my head. I got this TV about 6 months ago, and it's been great, but I recently connected it via ethernet since I have spotty wireless coverage where it's sitting.

It works fine when it's on, but as far as I can tell, once it's been asleep for a period of time when wired, it goes into this completely unresponsive state and kills all connectivity for the rest of my network. Unplugging the TV resolves the problem immediately.

I imagine the resolution is going to be "ask Sony for a new TV", but I figured I'd post in case anyone's seen or heard of this before.

I have a fan theory... (X-Post /r/Chromecast)

So I have a fan theory, and I want to see if anyone else thinks it's plausible.

So you know how Google released the ADT-1 at I/O this year? Well that was an ATV platform, but it surely looked like a Chromecast device, didn't it?

We also saw the Chromecast come back through the FCC with some boosted internals and the addition of Bluetooth. For a Bluetooth remote, maybe?

My theory: Oct 9th, Google will release a new Android TV with a Chromecast form factor with 4k in tow.

TL;DR: New Android TV dongle on Oct 9 with Pixel launch.

Best option to access just NAS and Netflix ?

My shitty tv has, for some reason, stopped seeing and connecting to my NAS's, every other device I have can still access them. I even tried connecting my ps4 to the tv, and through that, I can connect to my NAS. Tried factory resets and everything.

Anyway, I now need some way to access my NAS (3 of them), and would rather not spend too much, as it'll only be used to access NAS and maybe Netflix. I was looking into the Mi Box, but there seem to be a lot of horror stories, and it's also a pretty expensive option for just NAS accessibility.

What other options do I have ?

Thank you.

Edit: The PS4 is used in another room, and cannot stay here.

can anyone recommend a good quality mi box type remote that works on shield?

Not interested an in air mouse or keyboard. Just a mi box or fire tv type remote with physical volume buttons that works really well. Bluetooth is preferred, as my usb ports are taken, but I'd consider a 2.4 dongle.

I have been using fire tv remotes as my primary remote, but this accessibility bug is annoying and I'm ready to move onto something else.

Thanks.

Showtime surround sound?

I just got Showtime for free with Spotify student discount. There's no surround sound on the app on my Shield. Unfortunately I can't use it through Amazon because you have to sign up for it separately.

Is there any version of the app that supports surround? Does the Fire TV app support surround? If it does I can try the apk for that version. I also have an Apple TV 4k.

Wi-Fi Dongle for Mi Box Android TV? Slow Wi-Fi after Oreo Update

My in-laws have been cursed with slow Wi-Fi speeds since the Oreo update. In fact, it's so slow, that they can't even stream videos (YouTube, Netflix, etc). I opened "Stats for Nerds" on YouTube and they're not even getting 1 Mbps download, the buffer health is poor (obviously), and the framerate drops are obscene.

I considered downgrading to Marshmallow (6.0), but I read that the Mi Box will just force another Oreo upgrade. Also, I don't want to risk losing DRM for Netflix.

So I thought that an economical solution would be to buy a Wi-Fi USB adapter. There are a lot of people out there who have bought ethernet USB adapters, but has anyone bought a Wi-Fi adapter? Which ones work? I am considering this cheap one from Amazon (they only have 100 Mbps internet anyway).

Edit - Thanks koshergoy:

find and flash Oreo bugfix build 2179

I'm going to download and flash bugfix build 2179 manually (I'm not part of the beta program), and report whether it resolves my issues.

Xiaomi Launched AndroidTV in its custom OS

Xiaomi Launched its mi tv 4a 32 inch at Indonesia with its custom OS patchwall with Android 6.0 but with Google play services for Android TV, Android TV play store, chromecast inbuilt in,google voice search.

I think this is the first TV which has official Android TV services in a custom Android operating system.

https://www.mi.co.id/id/mi-tv-4a-32/

The price is 1999.000 RP which translates to $150 for 32 inch TV.

Coming to patchwall : Its a custom skin made by Xiaomi for TV's. It's a Content discovery engine which aggregates content from all the streaming apps which has tie up with xiaomi and gives search result in single place,. The patchwall scrolling is infinite. So, you get better content recommendations.

But, I like for $150 a 32 inch TV with Google Android TV play services, play store and chromecast built in, is a great value for money

Mi box vx Nvidia Shield

Hello everyone. I want to ask. I have Mi box 3, Samsung MU7002 TV. I use the video stream plug-in in Kodi. When I want a stream in 4k hdr, the video is playing for a while, then it just loads. I had a 100Mb speed, an increase of 200Mb, the ac router, still the same. Is Mi Box 3 suitable for this stream? Or better buy Nvidia Shield? Does Shield have a better picture in hdr? Thank you for every answer.

Looking for Beta testers -> Android TV app for Twitch.tv

The app is released!

Since the official Twitch.tv app hasn't been updated for 2 years (2016.06.27) and it's pretty broken now. I haven't found any alternative, so i looked around github. Found TwitchDroidTV project, i used this as a base, development build. The current one is completely new, based on the default Android TV preset project.

You can check it out in action:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyW5N7EB96I

Currently i'm looking for a couple of beta testers. If you want to be part of the test DIRECT MESSAGE me:

  • your gmail account

  • device and OS version

The beta test not gonna last long, max. a week, so don't worry if you don't get invited.

FAQ:

Where can i change the video quality?

Well, you can't. Right now it's hard coded to 'Auto' quality. In future release you will be able to change it, because it's a pretty basic feature. But during the development Auto quality did a pretty good job, so i never felt the need for other options, but this can be different if you share your bandwidth with a lot of people.

What's that 'Tree icon' do?

Bob Ross mode: if you are watching a standard definition footage, with black bars on the side, you can shift the view to the left/right side, depending on your chat position. So you can watch the video and the chat, without overlap. It is demonstrated here.. This is also the default mode on Bob's channel.

Do you have keyboard shortcuts?

Yes, on the main screen:

  • R - Refresh

  • S - Settings

In the Player:

  • C - Chat On/Off

  • S - Chat size

  • D or P - Chat position

  • V - "shrink video"

  • B - Bob Ross mode

  • M - Stats for nerds

  • O - Kill Feed (shrinks the chat a bit, so you can see the kill feed, exp in Overwatch you see 3 rows of the KF)

  • L - (fast forward button), jump to the end of the stream, basically reload the video and sync it up with the chat. Video buffering "desync" the video and the chat.

I will implement controller support, since we have lot of shield users.

Sony A1 overhang

Hi guys. My local electronics store is doing a great deal on the 55" a1. Β£1200 bet however it will overhang on my stand by about 1.5" on either side.

Will this be an issue with stability? Any risks of screen damage with it not being supported along the full length?

Thanks in advance.

Rating System, Android Pie, & New Nexus Player

Any update on adding rating system to Play Store on Android TV?

Also, is there a timeline for when Android Pie will make it way?

And finally, any news about Google releasing a new official box? With the last two, I'm sure sales aren't as good as they want it to be but is there a way they could improve the live tv content so that old audience could find this as a viable option over cable?
