What's the best TV for my shield?

I currently own a shield TV and I love being able to run a Plex server from it. I want to buy a new 4k screen to accompany but I don't know which one to get considering I want one with minimal input lag for gaming as well. The best screen I see are Sony but are also running android TV. I feel like it would be redundant to connect an android tv to an android tv. Anyone have any good screens they recommend? I'm looking for something around the 40-45" range. Thanks and I hope this isn't against the rules.

Edit: Less than a $1000 would be preferred.

How to Logout of returned Sony Android TV

It's there a way to logout of a Sony Android TV that I returned for warranty exchange to Sony? I had major issues with the TV, so Sony warranty exchanged it, but I forgot to perform a factory reset.

Is there any way to remotely logout that instance? I was guessing via the Gmail option to logout web instances, but not sure if that works in this scenario.

**BEWARE new Xiaomi MiBox models 3C and 3S are NOT AndroidTV and still Chinese GUI**

Just introduced to China domestic market. If you do not have access to Walmart in USA, be cautious of buying from other sources, at apparent bargain prices.

Prices are 199 RMB and 299 RMB respectively, which translates to approx $US30 and $US44.

Both carry the same model designation:MDZ-19-AA, only difference is remote control unit.

Physically identical but have Chinese firmware totally unrelated to the official AndroidTV as made for USA.

Xiaomi Model MDZ-16-AB shipped in orange and white box is the only version for AndroidTV.

Mi Box + USB TV Tuner?

Just curious if this is even possible. I have a Hauppage XBox One TV tuner connected to OTA. Is it possible to hook this up to a Mi Box (or are there any Android TV devices that support this) via USB and use it for broadcast channels?

Nexus Player vs Shield for Live TV

I already have a Shield, and since the last update fixed the interlacing issues with live tv I think it is pretty much perfect. I have been using the HDHR Prime and have no DRM so I am not deterred by that.

I am able to get a couple Nexus Players (cheap) and was wondering if these perform as well as the Shield does in this respect. I also have a Mi Box but between the interlacing and the Plex not working well I am thinking the nexus player might be a good stop gap until that either gets updated or a new Shield comes along.

Just looking for insight.

Thanks!

Issues with voice search

Hi all,

Just got a Nvidia Shield the other day and was setting it up this morning. I was playing around with voice search and was surprised to find that looking for a movie found it on both my Plex server and Netflix. This is a great feature, but after a few searches I found that it only works about half the time (it will find it in the google store but not on my plex). Is there a naming convention I should follow to make the search find movies? Or is it just a hit-or-miss feature.

Thanks! Loving the box so far.

Sony Live Channels app no longer letting me see the guide or change live channel

Does anyone else have this problem? I have Pluto, Haystack, and HD Homerun installed and set up on my 2015 Sony UHD TV (55'' 850C or whatever, the one that got the HDR update). The other day I tried to use the Live Channels app (or the Sony equivalent of it, I forget what they call it) and it's stuck on one of the Pluto channels. I can't get the channel guide to show and I can't get it to change live channels. I've tried all the directions, the select and channel buttons. I'm pretty sure I remember that when in the app the ch+ and ch- buttons would change the channel like when using the built in tuner. I tried restarting the TV by unplugging it and when it rebooted the problem was still there. I've tried using both remotes and the Android TV remote app and non of them seem to be able to bring up the UI.

I also have an Nvidia Shield that I use with this TV but I'd still like to get my app back to working correctly. Does anyone else have this problem or know what I can do to fix it?

My experience with mi box

I ordered two boxes. First one is a complete dud, LEDs turn on but it does not output video on the HDMI port.

Second one has the Netflix problem described here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/576lsw/anyone_having_problems_with_netflix_on_the_mi_box/

YouTube at 60fps always stutters.

It also has a bonus problem of certain screen resolutions are unreliable. Sometimes 4k 60hz will produce a lot of visual and audible cracking. Other resolutions (1080p 50hz) appear okay, but after reboot will have heavy distortion, lots of lines and nothing else. At this point I have to YouTube a mi box review video on my phone to determine the correct button pattern to change the resolution to something else.

I did notice that my serial numbers are sequential, maybe it was a bad run.

All in all, I'm going to return both boxes and hope for a nexus type player in the future. If I had none of these problems I'm sure I'd be delighted with the system. I wish I didn't waste uncountable hours troubleshooting, applying updates, factory reset, tech support from Xiaomi/Netflix. Back to chromecast for me.

Adding a subwoofer to a Sony HDTV

I would like to add a wired subwoofer to my Sony KDL-50W800C. As far as I can tell there is only one audio output on the tv (optical digital). And I would like the subwoofer to work with the tv's internal speakers to provide full range sound.

And here is the biggest challenge - I don't want another remote control. I want to use the tv remote to turn the volume up and down and have the subwoofer increase and decrease in volume proportionally. I don't mind driving the subwoofer with an amp, but I don"t want to have to touch the amp. It should turn on when the tv is on and off when the tv is off.

Is this possible?

Sony makes a wireless subwoofer for the tv that does all of this, but I live in a wifi congested area and expect real problems withany 5GHz link for wireless - which is what Sony uses.

Appreciate any pearls of wisdom anyone can toss my way.

Flirc on Razer Forge TV

After an incredibly frustrating experience trying to use a knock-off IR USB adapter on my Forge w/ a Harmony Remote, I recently bought a Flirc USB adapter and extension cable. The Flirc was fairly easy to setup and is working perfectly with Kodi, though I will have to reprogram a key in the O/S as it doesn't seem to have a "back" or "exit" function.
