I'm trying to configure my M8s to have a static IP address and it's... a bit of a nightmare, honestly. So I'll just walk you through WTF I've tried so far, and... maybe someone around here can help.
First, I'm doing this wired, not wireless.
First thing I did, open my router and find the device via the IP address. The device already told me its IP address, so I just grabbed it from the connected devices list on the router, and set it to be static. Restart, and everything should be good, right? Um, well no.
So now the router's showing the M8S as still connected to the static defined IP address, but the actual M8S device says it's connected through a different IP address... It's also now showing it has a different MAC address. Every time I try this, the MAC address of the M8S changes. Further, I check the device itself, both on the hardware and on the software settings, and it shows a completely different MAC address from everything else.
Okay, let's try something different. I define the MAC address the M8S says the ethernet port should have a static IP address. Now it shows up in the device list on the router, except now the M8S is showing yet another IP address, and my router says the device using that IP address has a still different MAC address.
Okay, maybe this is a bad way to go about it. Let's open up the M8S's configurations and set it through the android software. So I open up the ethernet settings on the M8S. I switch it over to static IP from DHCP. I set up its IP address, Subnet, DNS, Gateway... Should be gravy now, right?
SUCCESS! It's now getting the static IP address I've assigned. The router is seeing it show up properly. It's even now showing up with the MAC address the device keeps telling me it should have. Everything is gravy. I go about my business...
And then notice that, while I'm connected to the network with full SMB access, I can't get out of the network. I know I've got the IP address, gateway, subnet, DNS, etc all set up right. I even double and triple-checked online. Everything should be working.
And yet, for some reason, I do not have access to the internet.
I even downloaded an application to show me what my settings were when auto-connected through DHCP. I wrote them down, and copied them into the static IP setup.
I went into wifi settings and set the static IP address up there, using the exact same settings. That works fine. Address is static, and I can communicate outside the network.
But so long as my IP address is set to static via the device I can not call out. And if I set my IP address as static any other way, it refuses to go static.
I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out WTF to do here.
