Recommendations for UK IP TV

Like a poster recently, I just bought an Amazon Firestick. I live in a block with poor TV reception and the apps on my Samsung TV don't seem to allow live streaming of some of the basic Freeview services. I thought I might be able to achieve this through the Firestick but I can't find a freeview app that works natively and Kodi still feels as slow and frustrating as ever.

Anyone have any recommendations on how I can stream HD TV easily and without lag? Thanks in advance

Brand new GoogleTV error

Just bought a new TCL C635 TV featuring GoogleTV.

Whenever I try to search apps through the home screen, be it by voice or by text- it fails and says something like "something went wrong, please try again".

However, I do can search and install apps without problems through Google Play, but it's a hassle to open it from the settings everytime.

After reading about the issue I tried version update, disabling IPv6 on my router and freeing app cache- nothing worked.

Would appreciate some help here.

So I just got the Fire TV Stick 4K because there was a deal but I'm trying to watch a movie on it via Stremio and its pretty laggy at times and the audio goes out of sync. Is the ONN box better in this department?

Mi TV stick 4k doesn't turn on using remote

Hello I recently bought a MI TV stick 4k (my first android tv stick)

If I turn off the TV stick using the stick's remote's power button and then turn it on after an hour (a short while), it turns on.

But when I turn it off and try to turn it on the next morning (a long time) using the stick's remote, it doesn't turn on. I have to take the power plug out and put it in again to restart.

So, my questions are:

  1. Why can I not turn on the tv stick using the stick's remote (after a long while)???

  2. And am I even supposed to even turn off the TV stick??

I did not plug it in the TV's USB port. I used a seperate wall socket. And I think the stick doesn't power off, it just sleeps when I press the power button on the remote.

BT volume goes to max on speaker and ATV if remote volume button pressed only once

I have a tivo 4k stream connected to a bluetooth speaker for audio. If I press the volume button once on the tivo remote then the slider volume goes to max and the volume level on the speaker itself shows at max level.

Additionally, if I unmute the device the volume level goes to max and does not return to the prior volume level.

Border color-matching bias lighting: How to achieve on smart TV with built-in apps?

Ive been wanting to install bias lighting on my TV for a couple years now and i'm fairly set on a DIY solution like Hyperion as i'm very comfortable with these types of projects.

One big question i'm facing now is: how the heck does it work if the content isn't delivered over HDMI? I used to have a Chromecast with Google TV which i was planning to do HDMI-split on, but now i have a TCL smart TV with Google TV built-in; so i don't use my CCwGTV anymore since all the apps it provided me are installed directly on the TV.

Is there any possible way to export the TV info so hyperion can use it to control the bias lighting?

Secondly, i remember reading that netflix content was "protected" so it couldnt be read by another app, is this still the case? Will the bias lightning never work with netflix?

The apps use now built-in to my TV are:

  • Netflix
  • Disney+
  • Hulu
  • Amazon Prime Video
  • Jellyfin (for locally hosted content)

YouTube app freezes on HDR videos

Hello there,

I recently bought a simple Chinese projector with ATV onboard — and though being a budgety little device, it is marketed as one with HDR10 support.

I tested it with 4K HDR on some other apps and everything seems OK: AVC requires quite some buffering but still works, HEVC just goes butter smooth straight away.

But when I launch a YouTube HDR video, the picture just freezes no matter the resolution. The app itself keeps running with audio coming in, so I have some doubts it's all about the hardware.

What I know for sure, it's not about bandwidth. The projector is connected to a 5 gHz Wi-Fi network, the only other device using it is my MacBook. Other apps easily run streamed video with up to 50 Mbps bitrate, including 4K HDR already mentioned.

Would be happy to hear any ideas or suggestions

Xiaomi box colors are messed up after playing a YouTube video

I have a Xiaomi Mi box 4, which has issues with the color balance. It boots up normally, but then once I play a YouTube video the colors change and skin colors become way too red, and this effect remains visible in the general Android TV UI.

Is this a known issue with the device, or Android TV in general?

Bypass Android boot-up in Philips TV

I have a Philips Android TV with a clunky interface and terrible user experience. Also the app store is highly restricted. It seems to have a Chinese OS version. I have a Chromecast with Google TV connected to it and never use the native pre-installed Android version. Is there any way to bypass the Android start-up as it takes a long time for the TV to start? I want to turn it to a 'dumb TV' with Chromecast.

Is it silly to buy a Chromecast for an Android TV?

Title. We bought an Android TV with Google/Chromecast functionality built in but we hate the remote and miss the Chromecast remote.

Is this a silly venture? Are there other reasons/benefits why a person might add Chromecast to a tv that already has the feature built in?

I don’t plan on making the purchase if I can’t reasonably justify it, lol.

Sideload Channel Launcher 4 was released recently. also know what your getting when you Buy sideload channel Launcher 1/2/3/4.

Sideload Channel Launcher is a pretty great launcher, but before you buy it, be aware of the dev's practices. They provide a short window of fixes for bugs (except v2 which had longer support) and then start work on the next version. They also typically don't add that many new features to each version (although v4 seems to have the most changes thus far). They also had several other launchers in the fast they they have de-listed.

It is the most customizable of the very few actively developed Android TV launchers, but be aware of what you are paying for. I 100% think devs should be paid for their work and not support a single purchase forever, but they should also be clear in their policies and make each new paid version actually a worthwhile change in features, not just a new purchase for minor fixes/features.

Edit: it's probably best to think of it as a $4.49/yr subscription but you can stop at any time and keep your latest version.

Version Price Released Last Updated Number of Updates (from AppBrain)
SLC 1 $1.88 2017-10-2 2018-7-6 1+ (no good data, used archive.org)
SLC 2 $3.48 2019-4-25 2020-9-14 16
SLC 3 $4.49 2021-4-16 2021-9-12 9
SLC 4 $4.49 2022-11-12 2022-12-19 4 (as of 2023-1-7)

Can I remotely connect to an Android TV from PC?

I am looking to get a new TV or device for a relative who has difficulty finding channels and favorite shows and selecting movies on demand. I live over 1,000 miles away from my relative and am not always able to find someone locally who can help right away. The key feature is the ability to connect to my relative's TV from my PC through the internet, so that I can change the channel and stream a movie on demand. Are there any Android TVs or devices that will allow me to do this?

I am familar with TeamViewer and Anydesk, but I don't think that these are good solutions to connect to the TV because the ability to connect to the TV may depend on the TV brand/model, and we are dependent on the software in the TV and TeamViewer/Anydesk. I am also seeing way too many complaints about the reliability of TeamViewer/Anydesk to connect to TVs.

Frankly, I am surprised that I have not been able to find a good solution so far. As the population ages, and there are more people with dementia and alzheimers, there is definitely a market to develop easy solutions that will allow caregivers from around the world to help their relatives change the channel and find movies and make other TV adjustments.

I apologize if this is the wrong community - if there is another community I should ask this question, please let me know. Thanks for any suggestions!

8 yr old kernel on Hisense Smart TV, help?

Yes, I've tried ordinary updating, says it's up to date. Damnedable lie. Tried a factory reset, same issue. It had gone without internet access for several years, I think that hiccup plus Hisense being bought out added to the complication. Any ideas on how to remedy this situation?

my main motivators are it's occasional skip in audio and horrible lag input gaming. The last one probably can't be solved but \(._.)/
