Mi Box S is as bad as Mi Box

Hello,

I have sold my bugged Mi Box, got Mi Box S. I got the American model now from Wallmart at sale (39,99 USD) (old was from China). This product still have all of these problems people described in various posts. I do not understand how they get away with this. But, lesson learned, no more Xiaomi.

Wifi 2,4Ghz is still bad, it connects shows full strength and perfect signal, but networking just does not work for me. With 5 Ghz it works... fine... I can stream 4k video with my phone with either 2,4Ghz or 5ghz, but not with this box, it just lags. Only thing they fixed is that box starts with remote without any problems now, old box still has same problems with remote hang and not waking up from sleep.

I can compare Mi Box S experience with Sony Android TV. I have XE80 model. The difference is night and day. Sony TV video playback is silky smooth either with ethernet or wifi, does not matter if you throw 480p or 4k file at it. TV is snappy and works perfectly. Such a great product. On the other side, Mi Box video playback is so poor, even low quality video does not play well, you can feel stuttering, it is just not as smooth as Sony TV, does not matter which player you use VLC/KODI/NOVA etc.. SMB and USB playback is just bad on Mi Box.... I am not even going to talk about streaming, it is just horrible with this Box.

Sadly EU(EDIT: Lithuania) users do not have any options, in my country (Lithuania) only AndroidTV boxes they sell here are Mi Box and Mi Box S, both are shit. It costs a lot to import Nvidia Shield from US, because it costs more than 150 you have to pay not only VAT, but also import taxes and all the fees to all the 3rd parties and customs :(

In my honest opinion. The only real way to get proper AndroidTV here in EU countries(EDIT: Lithuania) is to buy Sony Android TV. Sony TV`s are quality products, zero problems, I am satisfied. I thought I will get away with cheaper non android tv+tv box in bedroom, but it did not workout :(

Is the Xiaomi Mi Box supposed to playback Atmos on Kodi?

Like the title says... I have the Mi Box 3 with Android TV (the official international one) and with Kodi 18.0 with passthrough on I don't seem to get Atmos enabled. Atmos tracks gets recognised as TrueHD 7.1 and that's it.

Is it possibile to get Atmos working on the Mi Box with Kodi? And if not, will the Nvidia Shield support it?

Which Android TV Box would you recommend?

Hi all,

I'm looking at buying an Android TV box for my grandfather who will be using it exclusively for Netflix streaming. I previously tried giving him my old cheap Beelink box but as it was not running a licensed version of Android TV I couldn't sideload the proper Netflix app.

What is a simple to use box that you could recommend? Preferably under $150.

Based in Australia by the way.

Thanks a lot!

Writing to USB drive

Anyone able to write to your usb drive from androidTV device? I am using mibox mdz-16-ab as my main device, unable to write/transfer file to the usb drive either as external storage or adopted storage. Tried that with my sharp tv which has build-in androidTV, also same issue. Both the mibox and TV stated that "The device does not appear to support android storage access framework". Have also tried with a few usb drives, same result. Am I missing something?

TCL 55" C70 ads

The TCL C7006 (55" C70 series) shows ads via a screen impersonating the google play movies & TV app. This is a stock factory reset TV. It only does it very rarely but it is super jarring & annoying when it does and can happen in the middle of watching something.

It displays some text something about "you have dowdloaded (misspelled) an app.." with a google play movies & TV icon next to it. Your only action is to press ok and then a 30 sec ad plays.

What the hell is this and how do I remove it ?

TV Tuner/DVR built into Sony Bravia

So I am looking at getting a digital antenna for my Sony XBR-65x900f, my question is can I use the built-in tuner on the TV and then the standard google tv app as a DVR?

If the answer is yes, do I have to have a drive connected via USB as storage, or could I save the recorded shows to my NAS?

Dualshock4 button mapping

So I have paired my PS4 controller (CUH-ZCT2U) to the tv and it works fine except for 2 things.

The circle button is not mapped at all and doesn’t work in any app.

The X button is back and Square is confirm in the Android OS.

If I launch SteamLink X is confirm as usual.

The controller was not bought in Asia. I got it on sale during holidays at Costco in Canada.

If I run emulators such as retro arch Circle is also never mapped and doesn’t work at all.

Anyone else have this issue? Is it just me?

Thanks

Can't get Android Tv box to run 5ghz with usb adapter

As we all know the majority of the Android Tv boxes do not come with 5ghz support. I've tried one of those 5ghz usb adapters, but could not get it to work, but works on pc once drivers are installed via disc. Does anyone have any workarounds/ways to get 5ghz to work?

Btw, my Nvidia Shield runs amazing with 5ghz, but cant get cheap quad core box to run it for a family member.

Is it possible to install Android TV on a Remix Mini?

I just recently got a Xiaomi Mi Box in the living room and was thinking about grabbing a second one to put in my bedroom. However, I was digging through some drawers full of old tech and came across a Remix Mini that I bought about 3 years ago and pretty quickly forgot about.

Is there anyway I can remove Android Remix OS on the Remix Mini and replace it with Android TV? Remix OS just isn't really suitable for how I want to use it.

Difference between Android TV and Android on television.

Hey everyone,

I tried searching this subreddit for an answer, but I couldn't find an answer right away, so I was hoping someone could answer this question for me.

I've noticed that some new televisions say they have Android 7 (or 8) for their TV OS, and another says it has AndroidTV as an OS.

Is there a difference between Android 7/8 and Android TV on these televisions, or are manufacturers just constantly mixing the terms?

And if there is a difference... would it be better to go for a television with AndroidTV or with a television with Android 7/8?

Sony TV discreet on

I have a Sony KD-43XD8305.

I've been playing with home automation and I need a way to turn the TV on -- that is, not toggling the power on/off like with the remote, but a way that'll turn the TV on if it's off, and that'll ignore the request if the TV is already on.

My TV isn't connected via an ethernet cable since it's in a very different area to my router, so that rules out wake-on-LAN. (Or would this work if I connect it to a wifi extender?)

My Google Home can do it if I say "turn on the TV" but it'll announce it loudly and I'm trying to find a quiet method.

I was hoping to find a way to do this using https requests (using the HTTP Request Shortcut app paired with Button Remapper) or IR codes (using phone IR blaster/my Broadlink RM Pro+) but haven't succeeded so far. I may have been doing it wrong, though, as I have very little experience in this area and was trying to cobble something together from online instructions.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Sony XBR-55X900E How to switch between recent Apps or close running app

Hello, need your help. I used to be able to hold the HOME button on the remote to get a list of running apps and I could then switch between them, or close them. After an update, this feature is no longer available.

Holding the HOME button takes me to alist of all installed apps and ther eis no simple way of closing them.

Is there a new shortcut? Or this is just how it is now with the new update?

Best integrated androidTV box + Google home ?

Hi

I would like to know what is the best Android TV box that is the most well integrated with Google Home/ GA. I bought a mibox 4, very disappointed with the poor and glitchy communication with GA which works once every 50 times.

I am looking for a box that would flawlessly do the following via Google Assistant :

  • Turn OFF/ON
  • open apps
  • Cast anything ( Chromecast built-in)

Basically like a Chromecast but with possibility to download apks haha

Any recommendations?
