Mic in remote not working

Recently noticed my shield 2015 remote is not anywhere near as accurate with my voice as it used to be. In fact it virtually picks up nothing I say. Is this a known issue? Mostly use for Google or YouTube voice search.

Mi Box on its way, what to install

So, I've scrolled through recent posts. I'm installing kodi for local media. I use Amazon prime video and spotify, are those working on the mi box? Anything else I should be looking at using? I had a nexus player but it scrapped itself after the oreo update and has problems.

I mainly looking at apps people tend to sideload, I can browse the play store for the usual suspects.

Edit: thanks for the replies all.

Why unsupported subtitles left me disappointed with my Philips 43PUS 4K Android TV

Hello everyone,

So I am "building" a new house and even though I don't watch all that much TV (my wife's department) I thought about investing in a good TV panel with some gimmicks to it for less than 700€ for some Netflix, DVDs and BluRays. Researched the market and ended up buying the Philips 43PUS6551/12 4K Android TV on a stock off for 650€ (supposedly 2016 top of range model).

TV is great for my "Netflix and chill" sessions with a great ambience provided by the Amblilights, 4K and HDR. Images look very sharp, buttery smooth (like the people were almost getting out of the TV and entering the room).

However yesterday I had the brilliant idea of watching a movie I had on my NAS and to my surprise the default Philips Android TV app couldnt either find the NAS via IP nor could it play a movie with a .sub subtitles. I went on and installed VLC on the Android TV. It was able to play the movie from the network and from the USB disk (I tried both you'll understand why in a sec) but the image quality really sucked. For starters the image is always very bright, there is no HDR at all making my eyes sore after 10 minutes of watching. Then there's a quite noticeable lag on the video reproduction so it is not as smooth as the Philips multimedia/Netflix app. If I put the same video (via USB) on the Philips multimedia app everything runs smoothly without that excessive brightness albeit without subtitles so I guess the source is not exactly the problem.

Tried youtube and althought the image looks sharp brightness was also very strong. Same happned with a 1080P Apple TV 4 and Nintendo WiiU, looks as if HDR is not happening there as well.

Am I doing something wrong? I thought I could really have the same type of quality (huh "gimmicks") overall the inputs and that the image processing would be done rasterizing everything put up on the panel and not from a support of an app. Cable Box from the ISP even though is not as good as Netflix (not 4k, only 1080p on a few channels) I didn't notice that excessive brightness that make my eyes sore (or probably just some whitepoint).

Now I am kinda disappointed with the thing because I feel like I am not getting the most of it. Has anyone experienced something like this? Looks as though as I am stuck to two apps to rely on excellent quality...

MiBox 3 Remote: BT or IR? Or both?

Xiaomi TV box stock remote supposedly supports both BT and IR: it appears as BT device, and also has IR blaster. So How does it actually communicate with the box? Can I somehow disable power and volume commands and use IR signals for my DIY amp?

Bohold. My simple $10 Crapmote I have working perfectly w my Shield

Glorious isn't it? OK, not really. But it's cheap, simple & does work (and glory be, physical volume buttons!). You've prob seen these around & like most air mouse remotes, it takes some fiddling to make right. Here's how I did it.

First, be rooted. Its a must. Get the remote, plug in the USB dongle to the Shield & pair it as the instructions. Download ES File Explorer, enable root file browsing & give the /System RW access in the popup.

Go into Device (Root), System, usr, keylayout. In there you'll find a bunch of .kl files. These are what Android & Nvidia include to make certain controllers & remotes work correctly w specific keymaps & such. Creating a new one requires certain permissions & formatting I didn't wanna get into, so I elected to just modify an existing one I knew I'd never use. If you click on them & open as text, you can see what remote its for in the notes. So find one you don't care to lose. Do NOT alter the Generic.kl file & instead, choose one of the Vender ones (mine was one about a Wii controller). Edit it to make it look exactly like this. Also note the file name I have given it. That is specific to this remote model & it won't work without remaining it. Make your edits, save it & rename the file. Restart the Shield & you should be good to go.

All buttons will now function as they should & the air mouse still works too if you activate it. Note that the "back" button on this remote (and most air mouse types) isn't a back button at all, but a right mouse click (dumb). You can't remap that, so I made Back the Menu button right next to it. Also I could never get the keycode to the Home button because any app I'd try it with, pressing the key would exit the app before registering the code. If anyone knows a way please let me know. Regardless, you can get around this by side loading a simple app called Buttons Remapper. It sees the remaining Home button as a generic "0" key, but it will map it to the home function so it'll work perfectly after this.

Here is the exact one I bought, but there's a bunch of different versions floating around that may or may not have the same Vendor & Product numbers for the .kl file so be aware. Look up the ADB way of finding out these numbers via Terminal (its easy).

That's it. Enjoy your shitmote!

3rd party remote for Nvidia Shield?

Hey guys

So I am contemplating to buy a Android TV box these past months, and as far as I've heard there's only two players on it, Mi Box and Nvidia Shield. But Mi Box is already unsupported and doesn't even have a newer update yet so the best right now is to bet on Nvidia Shield. Plus it got Amazon Prime and other exclusive Nvidia features right?

As far as i've known it's an overkill Android TV device & sorta a Android gaming console, but it doesn't even have a proper HDR support right, and still stucked on Nougat til now? But what turns me off is the TV remote, it's very bulky and have sharp weird gaming edges aesthetics, not very good to hold and on comfort (unlike say the Nexus Player or Mi Box's remote).

I'm concerned my family gonna hate to use it, so I wanna ask, is the Nvidia Shield the best Android TV box right now? And also does it support Live TV right now? What's it's latest Android update publicly available? And is it possible to pair a 3rd party remote on these devices? Are they a thing and available to buy? Or what remote that shipped with it is as is?

Some reason the browser on Downloader by AFTVnews.com app won't let you browse anymore from Mi box, but I was able to use it last night on Fire TV

Some reason the browser on Downloader by AFTVnews.com app won't let you browse anymore from Mi box, but I was able to use it last night on Fire TV. I don't know a way around this issue since there is only one browser on the play store and it won't let me type anything in unless I use my phone. And some reason my phone won't connect to the Mi box anymore for some reason.

ShieldTV remote problems

We’ve been through 2 shieldTV remotes now within 2 years. A bit ridiculous if you ask me.

They just stop either charging or just flat out refuse to work. Current one only works when it is plugged into a charger

What else can I get? The stock remote is fine but I Want something more reliable.

Keep in mind it needs to be Bluetooth/Wifi because our shield tv is mounted on the wall so it’s hidden behind our TV... so IR won’t work

Current March Madness apk Available for Sideload?

So, I found this: https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/5zmm06/fyi_fire_tv_ncaa_march_madness_app_with_leanback/

But was wondering if any one has a more recent available apk that can be sideloaded to Android TV devices? Any help would be much appreciated. I have the mobile version and can cast from it but this is more for my wife while she is home during the day on maternity leave. We have PlayStation Vue so most games will be on there but we don't get our local CBS so I am trying to get all the games in one app for her.

Nexbox A95X vs Mi Box?

I was just at Walmart and bought a Mi Box for IPTV service. Wanted a Android box but that's all the store had so I got it. I did a few Google searches after hearing about something called a Nextbox and discovered the Nexbox A95X. It seem cheaper than the Mi Box as well on Walmart online store. I am curious which system is better. I am thinking about taking it back if the other is better, but I brought it in a different city though.

TrueConf - Video Chat for Android TV

If anyone is disappointed that TellyBean stopped supporting the camera directly connected to the Shield, apparently there is a new Android TV app, TrueConf, that supports them. Seems to work pretty well. Just had to lengthen the sleep timeout so the Shield wouldn't go to sleep while chatting. The app seems to have been around awhile, but just recently gained Android TV support.

Mibox and Kodi playback choppy?

Although I use Nvidia shield, I bought my dad a mibox android tv (to replace an older Intel atom htpc he used to run).

I was hoping the mibox would resolve choppy playback issues with many of his movie rips (xvid / divx 24fps).

Symptom - when a movie is played full screen , some of these Avi files result in choppy playback (15Fps max). When I escape out (i.e. the movie still playing) , it's butter smooth if there are UI elements on the screen (e.g. Kodi home screen with movie playing in the background ), when I drop to full screen again the choppy playback returns.

Very strange. Both the htpc and mibox do this.

Could it be their TV? They have a Sony 1080p LCD (can't remember the model number) and video smoothing is turned off (they hate he soap opera effect that 120hz brings).

Other files (e.g. 1080p h264 MKV rips) play just fine in Kodi on the mibox (no choppy playback)

The mibox display setting are at their default.

I also tried experimenting with the system > video settings to no avail.

Any ideas?

I have a shield TV and a Samsung 1080p LCD and I cannot replicate these issues with my setup (the very same video files play fine)

How can i optimize the RAM usage on my mi box?

till last night everything worked smoothly no matter what (not using 4k) last night i started using 'open dns for android' app for just one app and i set it up to start on boot so it will be completely automatic it was very heavy than i got an edited vpn file from privatevpn.com which added 'ncp-disable' on Crypto

today it keep getting laggy and got stock watching with a local app (which is excluded from vpn) and after a few min did a restart but got stock during the 'google' animation on boot so i re-plugged it and now it looks fine but i think it just a matter of time plus i dont want that to happen on my living room mi box so my family wouldnt run into this situation

so im pretty sure its a ram overfload what do you think and how cam i optimize it?

tnx

MDZ-16-AB Auto Frame Rate Adjustment Details

Certain folks at the Kodi.tv forum have determined that a chmod to an internal system file could enable a cure, at least on a userdebug build where the system file is accessible. /sys/class/display/mode

When I strongly suggested this minor change be implemented by Xiaomi, the response was that it was an Amlogic problem.

Changing the permissions of the file is trivial but it causes a fail in the Google verification test.

This fault affects all S905X-H builds that are subject to Google certification.
