Youtube and HDR?

Hello!

I've just bought a Phillips TV (the 55PUS7502, to be specific) and updated Android to 7.0. Perhaps it's a silly question, but shouldn't the TV display "HDR Signal" when playing a 4K HDR video from the uilt-in Youtube-app?

The videos sure doesn't look like they are supporting HDR.

Is there a way to cast FROM android tv 6.0 TO a Chromecast? (just as you can do from almost any android phone)

So for example, the household has 2 television sets and one Xiaomi Mi Box hooked up to one of the TVs. Both TVs are not "smart", so in order to watch things on the second TV, it needs to be hooked up to another smart device. Mi Box was chosen cause the first TV has a 5.1 system, and Mi Box has an optical audio out. So I'm considering Chromecast for a second TV since it only has HDMI and built-in speakers.

But except for Mi Box, there's no androids in the household lying around, only an iPad device, so the Chromecast is basically limited by the iPad software selection with the Chromecast support, right? I've got a feeling that's not much, especially since some apps aren't on iOS at all.

That's why I was wondering, are the usual Chromecasting features of Android are still somewhere in the Android TV? Or if not, is there a way to activate them? Or are there any third-party solutions?

I have a hard time googling this cause all the results are obviously about the reverse - casting TO an Android TV. And I don't have access to the Mi Box and a Chromecast to test things out.

Android TV Picture-in-Picture Borderline Useless

Whose idea was it to implement a PiP mode with the crippling limitation that you cannot have video playing in both the active app and the PiP window?

I spent about 20 minutes futzing around with VLC on my shield, and was able to get our baby monitor in a PiP window - but the moment you start any media application it abruptly closes the window

Who is this feature for? The 1% of folks who play emulators or games on their Android TV and want a show/movie playing in the corner?

Such a wasted opportunity.

Why do Android TV boxes keep opting for 2-3 GB of RAM?

The Nexus Player runs with 1GB, and 2GB increase seems helpful yet not even phones can run optimally with that much RAM (ex. Nexus 5X).

I understand that these boxes are supposed to be cheap, but why throw a terrible amount of ram on it. (You could just say get the Sheild TV, but I personally believe that for me would be overkill)

(Perhaps it has something to do with the GPU, or just the fact the Nexus Player uses that horrendous intel atom processor. Or I just have an experience of only getting devices with bad processors)

I just want to find a Nexus Player alternative that isn't the Sheild TV or horrendously slow.

Mic on Webcam stopped working

Hi,

I have T95Z 2g/16gb android box with Logitech C920 webcam attached to it. Until two weeks ago everything worked fine. Video calling over skype was perfect and last Saturday mic stopped working. They still could see me but no sound

At first I checked if it is just a skype problem, but it isn't. It doesn't work in any app: voice search, voice recording etc.. So I checked maybe it is hardware issue with the webcam, but mic works fine on my desktop.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Sinotec stl-43e390m smart tv (rtd298x_tv001)

I have a sinotec stl-43e390m smart tv which is running on Android 4.4.2

The TV card is a rtd298x and the TV version is rtd298x_tv001

While looking for a software update I flashed a rom I found online. However since then the TV color is distorted.

I would like to find the stock rom in order to flash it back to the factory settings.

Does anyone know where I can download the official rom

edit So I have finally managed to contact sinotec who put me in touch with a technician.

The technician insists that flashing a rom onto a TV is impossible and that in order to revert to stock firmware the TV needs to be sent to Midrand and the CPU needs to be changed.

This makes no sense to me at all as there is nothing wrong with my CPU. The fact that I flashed the other ROM onto the TV in the first place proves to me that it is possible.

Am I misunderstanding something here or is their technical support just utterly useless?

Rented movie via Google Movies quality troubles

I just rented the movie 'It' on Google Movies. I at first tried to play it on my Shield TV via the Google Movies app and it played in 4K but no HDR. Then I tried the Youtube app on my Shield and it played in 1080p only. I then tried the Youtube app on my TV and hurrah, the HDR logo popped up on the top right of my screen. The excitement wore off however as I quickly noticed it was stuck on 480p! I could not select anything above 480p...

I then as a last resort tried to use the built in Chromecast of the Shield. Again, 4k but no HDR.

I am quite annoyed by this now, knowing the movie is in HDR but all my playback options do not give me the best quality. I know my Shield TV is properly set up for HDR because it runs HDR and streamed Blu-Rays via Plex with HDR (the HDR logo pops up).

Any ideas on how to either get the Shield giving me the joys of HDR, or stop the Youtube app on my TV from being silly and serve me 4K HDR instead of damn 480p HDR?

My TV is a LG OLED55E7N.

Thanks...

ShieldTV - Resolution of Stream info/stats

So lot of people complaining about DirecTV Now stream resolution being sub par and I was wondering if there was a way to check what resolution you're getting. It's possible on FireTV from what I know so was wondering if anyone knew how to check.

Sideloaded APK is working fine but I do notice the stream isn't as good. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does your Shield TV bug out sometimes on the homescreen?

On occasion when I'm navigating the home screen with my Shield, it will get stuck on an app and can't navigate away. The animation acts as if it will move away, but it just stays there. If I click the app its stuck on and navigate back home, it works perfectly. I've performed a factory reset on the device but it still happens from time to time.

This doesn't happen on any other app so I doubt it's a hardware issue.

This is just more of a curiosity question. I'm more than happy with it besides this.

CBS Sports HQ - No Android TV App

Well, there doesn't appear to be a native Android TV app for the new CBS Sports HQ live service. As far as I can tell, it requires casting or using the Puffin Browser to http://cbssports.com/live. Puffin works pretty well though.

NVIDIA Shield works when connected to my TV HDMI ports but won't work when connected my HDMI Switch?

I have a 4K TV w/ 3 HDMI ports. Before I got my XB1X, my PS4Pro & Nvidia Shield where connected to my TV.

I purchased a HDMI Switch awhile back. Tonight I tried plugging the HDMI cord from the Shield to one of the ports on the Switch. The Switch has 4 ports, the Shield is connected to port 4. When I turn the Shield on the NVIDIA logo pops up for 5 seconds then the screen turns black.

However, if I plug the Shield into one of the 3 HDMI ports on my TV, it works fine? I don't know what the issue is? My Nintendo Switch, NES/SNES Classic consoles work find with the HDMI Switch.

Any ideas?

Cheap Chinese android vs real android. How is it different?

Not sure how to explain this. I have a Chinese and an MI box. Is the MI android made by Google while the Chinese android just a cheap software? How is it legal to copy the software like that? Are they both the same android? Why is the Chinese version not built for TV and always so sluggish?

Cheap Chinese box

So I got one of those cheap Chinese boxes. Installed Kodi. Was working OK but Saturday night everything was stuttering (Netflix, my streaming channel, Plex). Switched to my regular smart TV and everything was good. Is this most likely because of the box?
