I have a Sony Bravia that’s about a year old that runs Android as its smart TV OS. The thing is. I only use my TV as a monitor. All it needs to do is switch inputs and let me adjust the picture.

Lately I’ve been getting annoying messages that Google Play has stopped working or some other App I have never used and need to hunt down the TV remote to dismiss it while I’m playing Xbox. Or worse, the TV randomly reboots itself.

I want a dumb TV. I don’t need the bloat that the Android OS is enabling. Can I turn off the “smart” features to make the TV act like a TV?

Is it possible to block casting from unknown devices which are in your network? (E.g. a blacklist or whitelist)

Couldn’t find such an option and it’s really annoying that anyone can do it and interrupt ongoing streams

I'm curious, is there an Android TV app for the international (!) NBA League Pass?

Hi there, I have a firetv stick and I would like to know if it's possible to launch an app with a remote control ?

I'm getting fed up with the integrated Chromecast in my Vizio M-Series. I was planning on getting a Chromecast Ultra--but found out it doesn't handle volume via CEC. I know the Nvidia Shield seems to do fine in this regard--but it's a bit pricey. I was wondering if the Mi Box handles CEC volume like the Shield now.

u/chewza and I have been trying a bunch of apps and almost all of the fireTV apps work perfectly on the shield.

Why would the developers who clearly also have Playstore accounts not put them on android TV?

At ends of episodes it often kicks me out of kodi and back to shield home screen with that Kodi stopped working message.

I've factory reset and have only two kodi addons. Any suggestions? Happens on both of my shields so I doubt it's device related. Must be a setting or bug somewhere.

Looking to buy a android box, basically just want it for movies and want no hassle sideloading apps. Want something that is quick and has a good interface, something that should also last a few years. I will not game atall so dont want anything that high end, probably looking to pay £60-80

Currently using aftv 1st gen and its starting to lag a little, fancy upgrading different to an amazon

I like the Mi Box for the price and size, but it probably will never be updated (it's on Marshmallow).

I like the Nexus Player for the updates (it's on Oreo), but I hear it's mediocre, and it's discontinued.

I like the Shield because it gets updates, has a good remote, and everyone raves about it, but I won't use it to game and it's very expensive.

What do you think?

Hey I have the 2017 Nvidia Shield tv. I'm wondering if I can run python on it? and set up cron jobs? Android is linux isn't it? Seems to me like it would be possible.

just got my mi box international version..my lg tv is cec capable but it seems I cant turn off my tv using xi remote..and also my yamaha yas soundbar is connected too,,better if I can turn off all just using mi remote..TIA

I am thinking NBC sports but they shockingly don't have an app.

I have heard you can sideload the firetv one but I can not get my hands on it.

Hello, I am curious about the options available for parental controls on the Android TV.

I am hoping that if there is no harmonized method across my different apps (PlayStation Vue, Netflix, Google play movies and CBS) that I will be able to setup a restricted kids profile for Android TV or use setup a code to even allow access to some app/services within Android TV....of course this would be a Android TV version 8 wish list.

Either way, just wanted to know how you handled parental controls.

I got a Sony X930E, and it just can't seem to play any of my MKV files that are 10bit. It seems that that's the common issue in all the files that have stuttering and freezing issues. I'm using VLC to play my videos (I've tried others, and they all suffer from the same issue).

I'm specifically trying to play video files over USB, which is where my problem lies.

File Container: MKV

Video Format: h.264/Mpeg4

Any idea if maybe my TV's hardware just can't handle these videos?

Everytime I turn it on I need to go through the pairing process even though its "saved" with my Xbox controller

I want to help someone a bit less tech savvy drop the cable box in favor of a fire tv or shield. My biggest concern is compatibility with streaming tv apps, particularly stuff like the spectrum tv app, hulu, and directTV now. I won't be around all the time to sideload new versions or change any settings and it sounds like android needs a little love. Someone with some firsthand experience please talk me out of buying an inferior piece of hardware!
