Your Google Assistant Keeps Getting Better on SHIELD TV

With the new update this message pops up every time I adjust the volume regardless of what remote I use. I know it's because the audio is being output to my Sonos speakers but does anyone know how to hide this message? It's very annoying.

Looking for a good small wireless keyboard + mouse for an android tv?

I'm trying to find a nice device with a keyboard and mouse that I can plug into a android usb slot that is wireless. I have seen somethings that look like gamepads with keyboards but I can not find the device, all google searches lead me to "keyboards" apps for android.

I think it needs to have a mouse not just left,right.up,down... as many apps need mouse input, imo.

TL;DR : Recommend me a wireless USB Keyboard that has a mouse attached to it (one device) which is small and good for the lounge room.

Thanks!

Clearing cache partition of Sony Bravia KDL50W805C (not the app cache)

Wonder whether anyone here can help. I've been getting decent use out of my Sony Bravia KDL50W805C and, for the most part, it's up to the job. Lately though, it's started lagging a bit, and I can't quite pin down the cause.

OS and all installed apps are up to date, and I've tried clearing the app caches (settings -> storage -> cache -> clear all app caches), and force-stopping/muting the Sony Shelf and Sony Select apps.

I'd quite like to wipe the cache partition to see if it improves anything. Is there any way of doing this? Any similarities to the process for Android phones, perhaps?

I'd rather not do a factory reset without trying some other options first.

In general, anyone have any other tips to make the TV feel more responsive, and cut down on occasional unexpected reboots and network drops? All help much appreciated!

TL; DR: How would I go about clearing the cache partition of my Android TV? I've already cleared app caches but want to try something a bti more drastic, without doing a factory reset.

Philips 49PUS7272 - Volume control on jack 3.5 audio output

Hi,

I bought a Philips 49PUS7272 and it works great. Only thing is I plugged my external amplified speakers (which only have a jack/RCA input) to improve sound quality as I want to use the TV as my main media center (TV/movies/music...).

The problem I'm facing is the handling of the volume control with the remote. What I would like would be to have the possibility to control the volume with the regular +/- buttons on the remote, but unfortunately Philips didn't design it this way. When the jack is plugged and you use the +/- buttons, you are still controlling the TV speakers, and it has no effect on the jack output. In order to set the volume for the jack, you have to go to Settings>Sound>Headphone volume and ONLY THEN you can modify it.

So it means each time I would like to change the volume of my TV/movie/music I would have to go through 5-10 clicks before I have the desired effect, which is not ergonomic nor practical at all.

I read about it on various forums, including the Philips one. This seems to be something for which consumers are complaining since at least 2011, but nothing has been made to fix it. I also tried opening me own thread on the Philips forum - referencing all previous threads on the topic - but weirdly, it is not published because it has to be approved by a moderator.

I was thinking that maybe a specific launcher could help, but I cannot find any with this option. I didn't find neither any ressource to change the firmwire (root or whatever...).

I also read that there is the same issue on the optical output, so an optical/RCA converter would not be an option :(

Would any of you have an idea to fix that?

Thanks!

Nexus Player remote "sleeping" issue finally fixed!

Quote from the issue tracker thread:

A server-side fix was released yesterday. Please make sure your Google Play services is up-to-date to receive the fix. You would also need to have a Google account logged-in on your Android TV to receive this fix (without an account, Google Play services would not be able to update either).

The cause of the delay is the activation of a feature that was intended for non-ATV devices. One of the side-effects of this feature is latency for Bluetooth remotes. This feature has been turned off for ATV.

Thank you for your patience.

New user with a few questions

Hey all,

I have wanted to get rid of my satellite for years but my ex insisted that we needed it. I mostly watch Netflix, Crave and YouTube. I am also interested in uploading my dvd/bluray collection so I might dabble in Kodi.

So I have a 4ktv in my main room so streaming 4k would be ideal. From what I have read online and here on the sub the Nvidia shield would be the best, right?

I also I have two Tv's in the home and might like to use android tv on both. I know I can move the box back and forth but I was wondering if it was possible just to buy another box for upstairs? I know I could buy something cheaper that would do me for my streaming needs but is there an option to access my Kodi database upstairs aswell without moving the shield?

Also I don't know if this would be the right sub but do you guys/girls have suggestions for apps a newbie might not think of?

Anyways any help would be greatly appreciated. Also sorry if the formatting isn't great I am writing this from my mobile device.

sudden mibox issues....

In recent weeks these problems are either constant or occurring more often. The mibox started out like gangbusters but lately its been more annoying than enjoyable. any help is appreciated.

  1. I use youtube a lot. it has become unbearably slow with thumbnails not loading, video freezes and some channel subscriptions not showing up. I have tried the older version and it does it as well.

  2. remote unpairs itself for whatever reason. almost as often as the nexus player remote.

  3. I have to reboot several times a day just to be able to use the device at all. most apps become unresponsive if the box goes unused for a few hours.

  4. wifi drops......regularly. both on 2.5 and 5 from my router. this isn't totally new but certainly more often. *no way to use ethernet without running new cables drilling holes in the floor etc.

I have done a factory reset on two occasions with mediocre improvements but these issues continue to crop up and sometimes worse. If I could afford a Shield it would be in my house today but its just not an option right now. Is there something I can do to alleviate these mibox issues?

MiBox and VLC

I have a mibox, and an issue with VLC. I download youtube clips and watch them on an external hard drive. I dont have wifi reach my bedroom.

FYI, i tend to watch at 1.3 speed since a lot of people talk too slow. I often get VLC to stop responding, and prompts me to wait, close, report.

After such bugy events, when I return to directory listing, the icons tend to overlap one another, which makes navigating impossible.

I have to back out serveral folders, until I get to the Mi home screen. Once I go back into VLC, I browse to the external hard drive, and directory listings fix them selves.

Sometimes the hard drive will disappear. I either dig into the reset applcation option under the settigns menu, or if VLC hangs with either a white screen or black screen I go to mibox apps and force close, then open.

I think Android doesnt realise that the disk has changed, while I have it turned off, so I have learnt to back out amd refresh directories. Kind of frustrating.

I dont know the version i am using off the top of my head, but did bring the mibox into the main living room, to update via wifi. Still hasnt fixed it.

I use Kodi to watch bdrips on the hard drive, which works flawlessly. Is a shame about VLC.

Looking for an Android box. What do you think for my options?

Hello all!

I'm in the market for my first Android Box and I have a lot of questions!
Reading around I can see that you all recommend the Nvidia Shield.
However, let me first "list" what I will use the box for:

  1. Will use it for streaming Services like Netflix/Youtube (primarily Netflix)
  2. Kodi (or similar) will be used for local files (either usb or network)
  3. I really want it to be able to play local 4k files (mkv - 2160p) preferably from usb. I'm not sure if I can play such large file on my network. I have to test it somehow.
  4. Probably I'm gonna use Plex (not as server) if my network supports it.
  5. And an IPTV app for free TV and Radio programs available in my country.

Looking around I came across those three devices:

  • Nvidia Shield
  • H96 Pro Plus and
  • Minix U9-H

I really like the fact that Shield has a USB 3.0 however from what I'm reading the CPU is from 2015. Actually, the 2017 Shield is just smaller and with 7.0 os. That's what I read. Wouldn't that be a problem? On the other hand, the other devices have a more "recent" CPU.

Should I also look into different CPUs such as the RK33xx or RK32xx?

Honestly, what I want, is a device that will play almost anything I put on it locally (usb) and last a couple of years!! :)

I have a 42inch 4K Smart LG which is a 2017 model I believe.

The only downside is the price of Shield!

Thank you and sorry for the very long post!! :)

[Update]
Ended up ordering the Shield! :)

Live Channels & HdHomeRun on LeEco Tv

Over the past 2 months I have noticed that live tv no longer works on my LeEco TV. I have a Sony Bravia on the same network and it can tune to the HdHomeRun channels without issue. The LeEco TV greets me with a series of errors no matter which channel I try to tune to. These errors include "(android) audio playback failed" and "video unexpectedly unavailable". I tried to email Silicon Dust support but they essentially said not their problem and offered no troubleshooting steps outside of try an older version of Live Channels. After the older version of live channels did not yield better results they told me that I was out of luck.

Is this problem unique to my TV or perhaps a bug of Android 6 since my Sony TV is on Android 7 and has no issue?

Mi Box, Nvidia shield/pro or other just for tv streaming?

I am taking the leap to cut the cord, I have been going through a lot of posts and i know the Nvidia shield is heralded as the best with Mi box in second.

I just want to know if i am just using it for kodi and IPTV ( I don't know anything yet about how these programs work) which is the best option.

Price isn't really a factor but I don't want spend $400 on a shield pro if it is overkill, I won't play any games and I have my plex library on my PC and use my PS4 with it.

EDIT: thanks guys, big help, i will go with the mi box for now and when i get 4K tv i will upgrade the shield.

Sony X900e Switching Between TV and External Speakers?

I bought a Sony X900e TV about a month and a half ago. Everything is great so far except the audio - I've noticed that occasionally it will switch from using the audio system connected to my receiver to internal TV speakers.

It will do this multiple times in a "viewing session" - it happens for about 3 seconds and then switches back to the receiver speaker system. It will be fine for another 5 minutes or so and then do it again, and repeat.

Does anyone else have this issue? Any solutions? FWIW, my receiver is a Sony STRDH770.
