So I bought the Xiaomi Mi Box the other day as a "test bed" to see how I like the Android TV platform... and I LOVE IT! I plan on moving the Xiaomi Mi Box to one of my other rooms and I'm interested in getting the $200 nVidia Shield for my main room.

One thing about the Xiaomi however, is that it supports IR, and with that, it was very easy to set up with the Harmony Elite. However, the nVidia Shield does not support IR. Will I still be able to control it with the Harmony Elite?

Secondly, whats the real difference between the Shield and the Xiaomi? I don't game, so I'm mostly getting it for performance improvements and wired LAN.

Since google search app 3.0 came out has anyone tried to sideload the update to get assistant to work on the nexus player or is it only working on Sony TVs and the shield if its a x86 app or arm

does anyone have a better version than 0.1.4?

So I have Xfinity and will be out of the home for a bit. I have the stream tv app on my android TV box. I'll have all of the TV Go channels available but I'd like full access to my entire cable package. Problem with that is, a lot of my channels say "available in home only" and unaccessible when not on my home wifi.

Is there a workaround or a mod somewhere? Thanks in advance for any and all info.

I browse the web on Fire TV everyday, so since I was told in this forum that the excellent Amazon Fire TV's "Downloader" web browser works in Android TV and can be downloaded from the Play Store, there was no reason not to get a Shield, aside from the very high cost (good thing they include the remote now or it would have still been no sale I think). So a few hours after the Google Assistant announcement on Thursday, I ordered from Amazon. No, I'm not affiliated with AFTVnews. Just enjoy the browser a lot.

I don't know yet if the 16-gig Shield being delivered today will come with the Android TV 6.0 software preinstalled, or if the Shield will have to download from the internet the one-gigabtye-large 6.0 upgrade. So I guess I'm wondering if the Shield has to upgrade over the net, would it be better to connect the 500-gig Samsung EVO 850 SSD before I turn on the Shield and connect the Shield to ethernet, OR would it be better to upgrade the Shield to 6.0 first, then connect the SSD? Is there an advantage to one method over the other? Thanks.

I must be missing something, but I can't seem to access my (Windows 10) shared folder from VLC app (2.5.0) on my android tv.

I can open the Local Network folder and I see my PC name there, but when I try to open my PC folder, it just keeps loading forever and nothing happens.

I've managed to open that folder with apps like X-plore and Total Commander, but not from VLC. I've also managed to play files in that folder with VLC from both the aforementioned apps.

Running a video straight from VLC has 2 main pros for me: only having to use 1 app; and making VLC resume my video if I stop watching it midway.

Any ideas?

How come I don't see the live channels app on the app drawer? I'm currently living in Indonesia. Does the area affect whether or not I could use the live channels app?

Three years ago in October, we got the Nexus Player. One year ago in October we got the Mi Box. Anything announced this October for Android TV (other than Google Assistant already being available)?

Now that Google Assistant for the Shield is out, now would be the time to finally release the Spot.

Especially since having a controller lying around just for the mic (and in case of us Shield 2015 owners, buying a new controller) seems a bit silly.

Hi everyone, I’m looking for an N64 emulator that runs well on the Mi Box. Have Mupen64 at the moment but the controls don’t really work.. I would also be thankful for some gamepad suggestions since the Switch Pro Controller doesn’t really work in general on the box for me (1-2s delay and some buttons aren’t recognised at all)

The Home Screen's recommendations row is kind of pointless. If I have Hulu installed, it will list popular shows on Hulu. I have no interest in any of these shows... so I end up just hiding the Hulu app from the recommendations. The same goes on for Twitch, YouTube, HBO, Showtime, etc... So basically I've disabled everything because of how pointless it is.

Is there a way to change the recommendations row so it instead shows updates to my subscriptions?

For instance, for Hulu, when one of my subscribed shows has a new episode... it should show that. With Twitch, when one of my followed channels is live, it should show that. For YouTube, new videos in my subscriptions, etc...

First of all, I should mention that I am overall pretty impressed by the Google Assistant on the Shield - I like how it doesn't stop playback of your movie, and controlling the lights and fans in my home without getting up is awesome!

However, there is a MASSIVE problem with the current implementation. When you search within an app, it seems to search only within that app for an answer, which results in you not getting answers most of the time.

Let me give you an example: I was watching Transformers: The Last Knight last night, and I wanted to know who was in the movie. No matter how I asked "Who is the cast of X", "Who was in this movie", etc, it would just search within the VUDU app for a movie title with that question in it!! I had to exit all the way back to the homescreen to be able to search for questions.

For some reason it still let me do home control within the VUDU app without any problems.

Are you serious Google? You can't ask who stars in a movie while watching a movie? That is like one of the top 3 use cases I can think of for Google Assistant on Android TV.

Please correct me if I am wrong somehow.

TLDR; It appears that Google Assistant, by default, searches for answers to questions only within the app you are using.

BONUS: Another disappointing aspect of assistant is that the movie database is not up to date. If you do a voice search to watch Transformers The Last Knight, it will only show it is available on Google Play Movies, which is not true. How long does it take to update the database?

I got the 43" KD-43X7500E (2017) model. It has voice control on the remote but no Google Assistant. 'been spamming the software update button to no avail. :(

I got the latest experience update on the shield tv 2017 and after that I got notified that there was new firmware for the remote.

Well first it took ages to get to the end, and after that it said that it failed to update the firmware. However the remote was still working fine so I carried along with using it.

However when I was ready to turn it off I took a look at the shield accessories page (where you can see your remote and controller) and it said that my remote was not connected?

Well excuse me, apparently my remote that I used to get on that menu was not connected.

In the end however all it took was to plug it into the usb, and then the shield that previously reported that the remote had 1.10 FW and was not connected. Now it said that it indeed was connected and it has 1.16 FW on it.

Just a little bug I think, but still makes me little nervous every time when there is a new firmware update on the accessories, because last time it did almost the same thing. Only difference was that the last time I had to pair the remote with the shield again.

As the title suggests I as shown the app switcher when I short press the home button. Tried repairing the remote, no joy.

Makes it near impossible to reach the home menu. This is ever since shield experience 6.0 released today.

Any ideas?

I can not figure this out... how do i watch live TV on Hulu on my Mi Box?

My mother is really into fox news. She needs to be able to watch Fox news live. Reading on the fox news website, I should be able to do this. But when I launch the app, there is no option to watch live TV. Not does there seen to be a way for me to log in. Xiaomi Mi Box.
