PSA: Food Network, Travel Channel and HGTV apps now support more than 5 cable providers (including PS Vue)

No sling TV support but at least it's more than 5 providers now. This must have happened recently because I know I checked a couple months ago and it was still limited to the original few providers.

Shield TV 2017 shuts off when moving it or touching shiny black top portion.

Just curious if this is intended behavior? I don't move it much. It has happened since day 1, but if i need to move it to get to the usb port or maybe my imagination seems to also happen when touching the shiny black portion.

UFC - PPV

Looking at buying the UFC fight tomorrow. You can buy it directly from the UFC here: https://www.ufc.tv/video/ufc-214

I'm assuming I will have to download a browser to view the fight.

I'm wondering if anyone has experience watching (legal) PPV on Andriod TV?

Alternate YouTube apk

I'm trying to install the phone/tablet version of YouTube on my Mi box (intl version). I should be able to figure this out, but I'm stumped. I dl'd the no dpi arm 64 version from July 15, 2017, but it won't install. Any clue as to what I'm doing wrong? And yes, I have unknown sources checked.

MDZ-16-AB Xiaomi Mi Tv Box - Netflix finally works

I am not sure what helped so i list everything i did

  1. The latest android tv update

  2. Cut off the power, press (back + OK) on the remote + power on. Box will boot into recovery mode. Find the "format cache partition", select it, reboot.

  3. Set the resolution that is native to your TV in the box display settings

  4. Use the recommended usb 3.0 gigabit ethernet stick, preferably powered one. 5E/6 category cables and gigabit ethernet switch/router. Unpowered works too. Gives up to 250 mbit/s. Give up the wifi, 5Ghz chips tend to fry fast, gives less speed anyway

Bonus: If you want the Amazon Prime - install it using ES File Explorer via net or usb. In security settings allow the "unknown sources". Link: https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/5nw302/amazon_video_extracted_from_gen_2/

Looks like this baby is great if you know how to make it work

Nvidia Shield reboots viewing 4k Netflix content.

I'm wondering do others have this issue. I have an Nvidia Shield TV device and when watching 4k content on Netflix, after about 30/40 minutes into a show the Shield will reboot itself. It doesn't seem to happen with non 4k content on Netflix. Does anyone know what may fix it?

VLC and MX Player not working on Mi Box, Kodi working fine.

Does anybody know a reason why both VLC and MX Player would stop working (freeze on opening or just open to a white screen), while Kodi works just fine? I have rebooted and full reset the Mi Box, but the issues persist.

How to edit HDMI CEC?

I bought myself a mi box and I have a problem that every time I turn off the TV, it turns off the mi box, but turning on the tv does not turn on the mi box(I don't have the mi box remote). This makes it so I have to get up and unplug and replug the mi box in order to turn it on. Is there any change the HDMI CEC so it doesn't turn off when the tv turns off(I don't mind messing with root to get this to work)

MiBox external HDD as Movies on Kodi 17

I'm loving the MiBox especially with how easy it is to use the external HDD. I added a 2TB WD Passport and I can easily load up my movies through Kodi 17. However, they are not being listed with posters under movies. I have to use Files > External HDD. This also does not allow me to automatically download subtitles and I really need that feature.

How can I go about adding the movie directory on my external HDD as a Movie Source.

Also, I wanted to know if I can ftp to the external storage attached to the MiBox through my computer connected on the same local network. This will make it much easier to transfer files rather than plugging in and out.

Download torrents to external midia (level HARD)!

Hello guys!

I have a Mi Box and I have a 128GB pendrive connected to it. I formatted it as Android internal storage, so I could move some of my bigger apps to it.

I have a bunch of different torrent apps and I am trying to download straight to this 128GB pendrive.

All the apps below have STORAGE write permission ENABLED! Let's see the tTorrent, for example.

In the settings, I can set the save directory. The option that I have in there is: /storage/emulated/0/torrent

I am also using FLUD and the path looks the same.

What path should I point to so I can download to my 128GB pendrive?

  • There's a menu option that says: EXTERNAL STORAGE, but when I click on it, it does nothing.

Any ideas?

YouTube App HRD Support

Hey everyone,

I tried searching online on the topic above, but I can't seem to find anything at all.

Does anyone have any idea if and when the YouTube app on an android tv will support HDR?

I have a new Sony 4K TV with updated OS and app, but I'm not sure this issue is isolated to Sony TVs.

Any information is much appreciated.

Cheers

Video quality on AndroidTV (MiBox)

have MiBox Android TV device connected to my Full HD Samsung (not-so-smart) TV. And when ever I watch a video stream using MiBox, the quality is quite bad.

But when I stream video using my TV native DLNA player, the quality is crystal clear.

Has anyone else noticed this? Is it because MiBox uses a wireless connection which might have smaller bandwidth compared to TV which has network cable connection?

I also have Chromecast2 and had Chromecast1 before, where I also noticed poor video quality. After I upgraded to Chromecast2, which had better wifi reception, the quality went better (but still worse than native TV).

I wonder if it is the poor wifi reception of MiBox or is Android platform as a whole incapable of streaming good quality video stream. I tested multiple apps - youtube, google video, plex, etc. The quality on big screen with MiBox is not so good compared to the same content on my PC computer. Also small screen Android devices have ok picture quality, but maybe that's because the scale is so small and I don't notice the flaws in quality.

EDIT: ---------------------------

So I found solution to my video quality problem. I guess my wifi network is not that consistent which resulted in bad picture quality. After I connected USB-Ethernet adapter, the quality problems were solved. Thank you everybody!
