I have a Shield with an HDHomerun for OTA Channels. It is fantastic! However it does not appear that you can watch a show that is currently recording. I am using the Live Channels app.

Is there a way to watch the show that is currently recording?

Some of the changes to the new YouTube App are great, but others just baffle me.

They made totally unnecessary changes just making the app more difficult to use.

The keyboard changed from the default device keyboard (QWERTY on my nVidia Shield) to ABCDEF. Not only this, but you need to go to a different screen for numbers. Typing something like "4K" into the search bar used to be so easy, now it's more time consuming ten fold. There is plenty of space for the numbers on the same screen too, and that's what gets me the most. It wouldn't be as bad if they used the space.

I get that having ABCDEF allows you to have the same keyboard across different locations, but just use the default device keyboard!

The video controls irk me even more... They removed the FF/REW buttons and replaced them with Next Video buttons. I've already skipped ahead quickly without wanting to. They moved the control to the video bar, which I can get used to... but left a TON of empty space below, and that bothers me. They removal of like/dislike adds a bunch of work. I usually like videos as it helps support the content creators, and now it's more difficult for no reason. It was two clicks to like a video before. Now, it's 7 or 8.

May not seem like a big deal, but it's just baffling. They cleaned it up and I'll admit it looks nice, but you can keep the like buttons, FF/REW buttons, and stock keyboard, and still have a clean design. In today's world simplicity is key and this seems like an unnecessary complication.

I do like the inclusion of the top bar in the home page. It's nice to be able to explore more of YouTube as opposed to staying in my own little corner, he bar itself to control the video isn't that bad once you get used to it, and the inclusion of a 4K icon is really nice as well. There was some issue with audio on 4K videos for me. This went away quickly so I attribute it to some weird network hiccup. I think if that keeps happening I'll roll it back because that's a big issue for me. I watch a lot of LTT videos in 4K, and another change they made was quality controls are MUCH more difficult to get to. I'm not even sure you can to be honest.

I really hope a future update brings back the default keyboard and changes the video control bar to include more buttons. This would make the app nearly perfect.

Device: Mi Box

I'm not sure if the title explains what I want to do. I have 13 apps installed on my Mi Box in the bedroom. I know that, at a certain number of apps, they will break in to two (or more) different rows. Is there a way to force it to do this with less apps? I'd like it to happen around 7-10.

Just wanted to get any non-usa residents take on getting the "Live Channels" app installed on my MiBox.

When I bought the box from the states the Live Channels app was pre-installed. I made a USA locale gmail account to sign in with and everything went smoothly.

Cut to yesterday, I went to update the box with the july security patch and had to factory reset.

I can search the live channels app in the play store, see that it's downloaded and installed but I get no shortcut and no option to "Open" like I do with other apps.

Does anyone have a workaround? I'd like to get the live channels app back onto my box :( Thanks!

So just got the new YouTube update , the UI matches similar to the PS4

Problem is nothing runs in 4k. They took away the ability to choose the resolution and it's automatic based on connection.

Before the update 4k 30fps videos worked fine no problem (4k 60fps never worked on YouTube for me for some reason, yes I have hdcp 2.2)

No all 4k videos run at 1080p max and never go to 4k.

You can verify this by enabling stats for nerds.

This is a terrible update.

As some of you may or may not have noticed, the Android TV app has been updated and the UI now matches the Youtube app typically found on Sony consoles. I'm fine with the UI change, but for some reason, I can't access my "Youtube" account, only my "Google" one. This is disconcerting to me because all of my history and playlists are on my Youtube account.

Has anyone gotten around this?

My Shield just got updated to the new Youtube app. The problem is that I have 3 channels under my login. The app won't let me choose the channel I want to use, so I am stuck being logged into an account that I don't use. Anyone figure out how to change channels under the login?

This has been infuriating me for some time now, but I'm not sure if this is something I did, or if it happened during an update. My "qwerty"-layout on-screen keyboard is gone, replaced with an alphabetical "abcdefg" layout, like this...

I can't enter text like that after years of typing.

On my Nexus Player in another room, the keyboard is still "qwerty". Both are running Android N.

Is anyone else having this issue? Is there a setting somewhere I can change to get my "qwerty" layout back?

The upscaling in the Nvidia Shield to 4k60P does not work as good as in my Samsung UHD TV. I clearly see 1080p and 720p material looking worse using Shield that directly on TV.

I'm hoping to find answers or ideas here, I posted this to the Shield subreddit but figured I might as well ask here as well and try to collect some ideas. Thank you for your patience.

First, my apologies if this has been posted before. I've searched reddit for a few hours and couldn't find a decent answer. The only things I find are years old and clearly out of date.

Background. I upgraded yesterday from my previous setup (Xbox One for most streaming, Raspberry Pi for Kodi-local media, Roku Express for Playstation Vue) to a Shield TV with the idea of this being my one size fits all TV solution for the family.

Out of the box the Shield is blazing fast, Kodi was seamless, Playstation Vue is miles ahead of the crap Roku app. Love the performance on this.

But the app store, looking for things like Cartoon Network, The CW App and such are unavailable. Again, I've found this discussed a lot but no real answers.

Per a post I read I installed The CW app on my phone and using ES File Explorer attempted to send it to the Shield TV, only to have the Shield close the connection time and again without receiving the upload. Not only do I not know how that will work since I believe I turned on everything needed for permissions, but I don't know if the app will load anyway.

I want to love this box, but the lack of apps might be the killer that forces me to buy a Bezos Fire TV instead (I don't have Prime, so it kinda sucks the life out of a lot of the setup of that)

Anyway, i'm hoping to install some official TV apps on here, and wondering if anyone has had any real luck. Thank yous to anyone who might have some ideas.

The Mi box's shitty external usb conundrum is pissing me off big time. you can either use a usb drive as a read only external storage, or 'start-from-scratch' internal storage. the internal storage option would have been ok if it didnt slow down the box. so i'm wondering if using an ssd improves that?

I currently have the mibox and I really wanna gamestream (moonlight) more but it seems to lag too much. I'm on 2.4ghz wifi but the router is just in the room next door, without a wall itd be only 10 feet away. My PC is hard-wired into the router. I get ~50-100ms of delay acording to moonlight.

Curios to know if I'd have smoother results with the Shield. It's a hefty price but would it make things playable with my wifi situation? Or would maybe hard-wiring the MiBox work?

I found the Mi Box from Geekbuying but I'm not sure which version I should pick.

I'll basically only use it to watch Netflix and occasional use of Kodi.

Their "HK Stock" version is almost half price - what's the difference? Will I be able to use Netflix and 4K with it or is it somehow limited due to something-I-don't-know-anything-about?

Is there a reason I would want to buy their "Germany Stock" version?

Hi all, anyone experiencing problems with YouTube videos randomly not loading on Mi box 4K International version? Problem persists even on the latest OTA firmware update (July 2017). Cleared app cache, and even paired with the YouTube app on my iPhone: videos loading fine on phone but not on Mi box. Also tried both wifi and LAN, same result.

Something to do with DRM / ads maybe? Located in Athens, Greece.

Does anyone else have this problem or know how to do it? It logs me in to the account that doesn't have my subscriptions. It's quite frusturating.

Edit: I ended up just installing the update. Hopefully google fixes this issue.

I've been thinking about getting an Android TV device, like the Mi Box or Shield, but two questions have me on the fence.

First, is there a way to get stock Android controller-compatible games to work on this, or do they just come up as incompatible?

Second, If I mount a USB HDD as internal storage, can I take it out when the system is off, connect it to a PC and load stuff on it, or would the PC not recognize it because it's tied to the device?

I see several videos in Youtube of Minecraft running on their Mi Box or Nvidia. But for me, it's don't works.

The problem already starts when I open the game, it stays for several seconds in a completely dark screen but finally the initial menu appears.So when I finally play, by tapping "Create World", it simply closes.

What can I do to make it work?

I got the game bought, I had it installed through the Google Play website. And I open the game using Sideload Launcher.

UPDATE 2017/08/03: So guys I finally found why I've this problem, to fix it, just go to settings and set manually all permissions for MCPE. Works great now!
