YouTube app is causing Shield TV to crash.

Anyone else have this issue? When my Shield TV crashes I have to pull the power cord to get past the boot animation. YouTube is the only app that consistently causes a crash like this. The Shield TV doesn't crash every time I use the YouTube app, but more than I'd think is reasonable. The app hasn't been updated in nearly a year.

Xiaomi AndroidTV MiBox worldwide market penetration

In an offhand remark from a Xiaomi marketing type, it was intimated that this product had overtaken Nexus Player in total sales in the US and was approaching parity with Shield's takeup in international sales.

No response yet as to specifics.

Will update if/when details are forthcoming.

FWIW, Google has stated to the financial community that as of June 2016, 30 million Chromecast devices have been sold.

Do you have a problem with your Mi Box?

I'm really interested in getting the Mi Box because of it's price and 4k support. The problem is I'm constantly hearing about problems with the Mi Box, either video stuttering, Netflix not working, audio, or some other apps not working right.

I was just wondering if this was just me seeing posts of the few people who have problems, or if these problems are a common occurrence.

New Android TV noob questions.

SONY TV's not a week old yet and I've figured out the basics of it. For background I've been a iOS & OS X user mostly since probably 03/04 (early Windows Vista days when I bought my last Windows PC). Haven't used any non Apple or payed much attention to non Apple OS's since. Just enough to be "in the need to know." So, there's just some Android/Android TV questions I have if this sub doesn't mind helping a bruh out. I've been looking up and at sub searches all morning and did find a few post that I saved to check out when I get home. A lot of them had old dates so we'll see. One of my questions has maybe been answered on the front page which is a SoundCloud App. The rest are followed:

TV MODEL - SONY BRAVIA XBR-65x750D

KODI question: I've been using it for years before the name change so I'm familiar with it deeply. When I tested to see if AirPlay works I get a never before seen error message along the lines of Device doesn't support airplay. Is this right, that either Android or the Sony TV (one of the two) just isn't having any of that airplay foolishness around here?

Chrome cast or Google cast (whichever it's currently called). Coming from iOS I'm a lot confused about this and for all the years all the info I've come across relay it as if I already have an understanding how it works. From what I gather it's not like airplay where it's built into the OS (strictly speaking about iOS), I have to specifically install a casting app? This is where it all stops making sense. Does casting happen from within the casting app or is downloading the casting app just open the casting feature to each app already installed? Secondly, for the tv itself do I need to open its cast app to start a casting or does it receiving it instantaneously?

Voice Search: Though I'm not a big voice search user (not even with Siri), I like having the option there. So far it hasn't worked and I'm wondering if my tv supports it. The included remote doesn't have a mic button, but every where it's either offering me voice search or saying my tv comes with it (manuals/tv settings). I've been enjoying the SideView app but trying to initiate it through it via iPhone/iPad still doesn't work. On the voice mic search icon on the tv itself when I press on it I get no response of any kind. Any info or help offered would be great.

Lastly for now is a Podcast App. I've saved a few post from searches that name one or two apps but they are really old post. Though I'm still going to look them up when I get home are they any Apps some of you are using in these current days. I only found one and it needs to be taken down from the store cause it's not even a solution for a tv.

Thanks in advance I very much appreciate it.

Any news on the Nvidia Spot?

Just wondering if anyone has heard anything more on the nvidia spot. Searched around and found nothing on a release date. Really interested as it would basically make the shield a google home unit.

Best Alternative Remote for ShieldTV?

For 90% of the stuff out there, my wife and I love our new ShieldTV. The remote however is a steaming pile of garbage. One, the button options are very much lacking. I miss dedicated keys for specifically pause/play, but also jump forward/back and volume up/down. The directional pad mostly works, but not always.

Second, the thing goes to sleep after roughly 10 minutes. I would say well over half the time we try to use it we have to wait a good 5-10 seconds for it to wake up. It is infuriating!!!!

All that said, what would you suggest? I would like to keep the microphone and its dedicated button. I would also like more dedicated keys. Including a qwerty keyboard would be a game changer, but I don't expect that.

Question about Shield TV and HDR Streaming

Hey all!

So I just got an OLED TV yesterday, my first TV with HDR. I have an Nvidia Shield TV (the new version) all up to date and everything.

I have Amazon Prime, and I have the Netflix UHD option. My question is, how do I actually FIND the HDR content?

I know which shows have HDR, and I have HDMI Deep Color on, which allows for HDR. My problem is that none of the shows have the HDR label, like they should (according to images I see of netflix for example, where it says "HDR" under the title). I have searched grand tour on amazon prime video, and only the 1080p version even shows up, but the other amazon originals dont show HDR either.

Is there a setting I need to enable on the shield to get this to work? The weirdest part is that my HDMI info from my receiver is showing that the output IS in HDR, but (besides the couple of shows that I know have HDR) I don't know what actually has the HDR feature because none of the apps have the HDR labels on the shows / movies?

Thanks

TL:DR - No streaming apps show the HDR label on shows. How do I get them to appear?

Quick question about Google Cast and MiBox

I am on my way to the store and I was going to get a Chromecast Ultra for my 4K TV, but the HDMI port that supports HDR is being used on the PS4, so it would be for 4k Only, now my TV has Netflix and Youtube already. so I would be using the Chromecast only for Crunchyroll, Funimation and maybe other cool apps I may find.

My question is this, I know that the MiBox supports google cast, do I have to have the app installed in the MiBox if I choose to cast something to the TV? or will it work just like the Chromecast in that way?

Also I just sold my apple TV and I used the remote to control the Vizio SoundBar, would the Xiamo MiBox remote do the same??

Mi Box: How to delete app data after deleting app?

I downloaded a big racing app and later deleted it. About 1 GB of app data is still sitting on the Mi Box though and I don't see any obvious way to delete it.

How do I?

When I click the 2.1 GB of "app data" under storage/settings, I can't go down and see the actual apps and/or delete this data.

Do Shield TV's come with the same bluetooth address? (x-post /r/shieldandroidtv)

Disclaimer: I have 3 roommates who have no idea how to use anything but the cable box. It's possible that they did something.

I have 2 shield TV 2017s.

  • One in my room pairs fine with headphones, mouse, keyboard, nvidia controller, remote. This was purchased second.
  • Second one used to have its respective devices paired fine. But currently has none. The only way I can navigate now is hardwiring the Nvidia Controller via USB.

When I go into Settings >> About >> Status it shows Bluetooth Address: Unavailable. So I'm assuming the addition of the second shield stole that Bluetooth address?

Anyone have any ideas?

I have tried:

  • Factory reset
  • Restarting
  • Pairing Nvidia accessories
  • 3rd party accessories

Nvidia Shield (2015) and Comcast Xfinity Subscriber - to go apps (HBOGO, Showtime Anytime) question.

So literally just connect my Nvidia shield and tried putting on HBOGO for sesame street for my toddler. Spoiler alert xfinity blocks using the login info. Apparently they do this for a lot if not all these types of apps.

Does anyone have a list of any that work with xfinity login. Also a list of which where sideloading is a successful workaround. I'd like to avoid the trial and error if I could before I start bigger projects like putting emulators and kodi on this thing.

Thanks.
