Custom Home Screen shortcuts?

Hey there, guys! I'm about to pull the trigger on a Mi Box, and I had a few questions. My goal is to have a dead simple setup for my wife to use.

  1. Can I have custom shortcuts on the home screen to play a playlist of mp3s at random? (coffee shop, kids, blues, etc)
  2. How about a playlist for playing downloaded tv shows at random? (kids shows)

Thanks for the help!

Trying to Update a Sony Bravia 4K Android TV (KD-49X8300C) to 6.0

I got a message on my home screen linking me to this website. None of the described feature are on my TV and the TV can't find and a software update through the help menu either. So decided to try the manual update and following those steps i end up here, in the download tab there are 3 files files available, two 'PKG3.707...' version which seem to include Android 6.0 Marshmallow. But those are for Taiwan and Hong Kong and the screenshots show Chinese. For Asia Pacific there is only the version i already have.

So i wonder whats the difference between those versions? If it was language agnostic then i wonder why are there different versions for HK and TW. Has anyone successfully updated the TV to 6.0? Pretty frustrating that Sony is teasing an update thats not there and that i know depend on Sony to push release this Version. Reminds me of the horrible beginnings of Android when the manufacturers just couldn't be bothered to release updates.

Video stream // Mirror Casting over Ethernet from PC

I've got a PC connected to the Ethernet/LAN and a Smart TV to the same Ethernet/LAN.

Is it possible to do mirror casting or video stream over this Ethernet connection instead of WiFi (WiDi)? Ethernet is more stable and faster and would reduce latency and enable FHD streaming, I'd think.

Best USB for Adaptable Storage

I am going to buy a USB Key to expand the storage on my 2017 Shield TV.

Reading some posts on nVidia's forum, they have a list of recommended drives but some people are complaining that some drives get very hot.

Does anyone have experience they would like to share or recommendations? Looking to get 128GB or 256GB

Thanks

Audio/Video out of sync.

I am currently having issues with audio/video being out of sync. I thought it was just a Kodi issue so I just set the audio ahead on my Kodi box and just handled it that way. When I was watching a video off youtube last night I noticed that the audio/video is also offset on that. Any ideas of how to fix it?

Why is Android TV so hard to organize media? Am I missing something here?

I have pretty much every single media app installed. HBO GO, Hulu, Netflix, etc. Pretty much nothing is aggregated or organized together in any meaningful way. The recommended listings at the top never show the new shows I watch from these apps. There are never notifications about a live broadcast that I can tune into (twitch, youtube live, etc). There are no options to just auto play new youtube subs automatically. Everything feels so manual and you have to actually work to play the content. Is there some option I'm missing here? If a twitch streamer I sub to goes live, I want to be notified. If something new on HBO is posted, I want to be notified. I feel like 0 steps have been made in this regard since release. It feels like chromecast with some icons.

Edit: A lot of these comments are "Other platforms don't do anything beyond the basics, therefore, Android TV should also be completely basic." Imagine the people who thought the very same thing before the iPhone came out. "No other competitor does it well, why should we?"

Mi Box USB ir reciever

For some reason the Mi Box is having intermittent issues with my harmony remote. Maybe mine has a iffy ir reciever built in or something, but a lot of the times I have to repeatedly click or move the remote closer. Is there a USB ir reciever I can attach that would work with the Mi Box and accept traditional play/pause/ff/rewind commands (not just d-pad commands)?

Mi Box compared to the other Chinese brand TV boxes on Amazon

Hey guys I just purchased the Mi Box on eBay from a good seller and I was wondering if I had made the right choice when compared to those other boxes on Amazon for around the same price. Like the Leelbox, GooBang Doo, Globmall. I personally have a PS4 and play games on there so I wanted a very basic Android TV for just watching shows and movies. I was looking into the Nvidia Shield however for Canadians it's up around $300-$400 which is too much for what I am looking for.

I guess my question is for the people that have the Mi Box. How has your experience with it been so far? It is featured on the official Android TV website so I am hoping it will receive updates for at least the next little while.

Also for the gamers who have PS4 OR Xbox, did you go with a mi box or a different box?

Is anyone happy with their AirTV?

I am looking for a simple solution that seamlessly integrates OTA with live streaming (traditional cable-only) channels, and that can be used with a single universal remote (to operate primarily power and volume on the TV). DVR and gaming functionalities are not required.

The AirTV seems to meet these requirements out-of-the-box, notwithstanding the Fisher-Price design. Unfortunately, I've read a lot of complaints about the AirTV. For one, integration of OTA and Sling guides apparently is awaiting an update. Others include poor performance (freezing and other glitches) and poor customer service with respect to refunds and RMAs.

So, if you've got one, are you happy with it? Has the update to integrate the guides been released?

Any other suggestions or advice? Is Live Channels an option? Do any of the other live TV streaming services (i.e. Vue) integrate with Live Channels? This would open up other options like the Shield.

Note: I am assuming that AirTV is running Android TV, but I could be wrong about that...

Does the ps4 controller lag on the Nvidia Shield?

I recently got a ps4 controller to use as a phone gamepad, but to my dismay, quickly learned that it has a known lag issue. The main workaround doesn't seem to be working. :(

I was wondering, does anyone have a shield TV and a ps4 controller? Do they play nice together?

Thanks!

Shield TV audio stopped working

Don't know what is going on. My 2015 Shield TV was playing sound fine...from live channels to HD Homerun TV to Youtube. As I was watching TV today, the sound stopped. Once in a while it will come back on, but if I go to do something else, it cuts back off. I have the HDMI running from the Shield to my Onyko receiver, to my TV.

What happened? It was working fine up until about 5 minutes ago. Tried restarting the shield, unplugging the HDMI cable...nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

Mi Box cec issue with Samsung tv

I have my Mi Box plugged in directly to my Samsung tv with a new hdmi cable. Cec option on my tv is enabled. When I am playing a Netflix movie and try to send a rewind signal through the Samsung to the Mi box the Samsung says 'not available' Should this be working right out of the box? Is there some kind of special setup I have to do? I just want my harmony remote to send rewind commands to the Mi box, this is the only way I can think to do it.

Sony has halted the 6.0 update for its european TVs

The 'TV Software Update' tile on the homescreen now says that they temporarily halted the Marshmallow update because of technical issues and that they will miss their originaly promised delivery date (aka 22.02 - 08.03).

Funny enough the hard working devs at sony managed to find the time to install bloatware, ehem, Amazon Video. So yeah, enjoy, I guess.
