Get into the practice of doing a hard restart (at least) weekly & going into your recent app menu & clearing everything out as needed, or again, at least daily. Will do wonders for your device.

Picked a new Nvidia Shield TV about a month ago, 16gb model. I have an HDHomeRun Prime with digital cable from WOW! Live Channels updated a few weeks back and I got the DVR option but I can't record anything, literally. I have tried probably 60 channels. I get a generic error "The program cannot be recorded." I confirmed that the channels are not DRM. I also confirmed that Live Channels has all permissions (although it does crash every time I click on "additional items" in the App permissions menu) specifically storage is enabled. I have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail.

Any ideas?

I am having problems with the device named in the title, a Technicolor Skipper Android TV set top box.

Whenever I try to load my contents from any USB devices, it doesn't show up.

Tried with both Pen drive and HDD, in either FAT32, exFAT, or NTFS, without any good results.

From the VLC app, it is not showing, with X-plre File manager it states that is wrong the partition, with ES File Manager, I can see the USB is there, with 0 Bytes left, but is also empty, and another app (forgot the name) doesn't show it either.

Don't have any NAS or network shared device to try, so if you guys have any idea on what can be the solution, it will be much appreciated.

PS: ATM it have installed Android 5.1.1

Whenever I cast Netflix from the Netflix app on my phone, the Netflix app on my Android TV opens up just fine, but then it just sits on the screen that allows you to choose the Netflix user profile you wish to use. It never successfully opens the stream. I'm using a Mi Box and casting from iPhone. Anybody else have this issue/know of a fix?

Fox sports go wasn't showing any streams last night so I decided to reinstall it. I uninstalled it but now I can't find it in the play store to install it. Anyone else having issues?

Spring Training games stutter on my Nexus Player. Frames are dropped, resulting in uneven, stuttering playback. I have tried to get help at the MLB.TV support forum, but the Mods will not acknowledge that there is a problem. Has anyone else watch Spring Training games on an Android TV device this year? How is the quality of the stream?

EDIT: I should note I'm running MiBox (unrooted).

What are the chances that someone will figure out how to port gagged over seeing as the are running the same chips?

Just got the new Shield TV great so far with one major caveat, every time it sleeps for a while it disconnects from my 5Ghz network and reconnects to a 2.4Ghz channel. This results in a poor signal and even worse performance. Anyone else have this issue? Anyone know of a solution? I'd split my 2.4 and 5Ghz channels if I could but Google Wifi doesn't give you that option.

I have my 2017 Shield and a PC with a nvidia card. All fine steam launches great on the shield except the controller doesn't work and I have to use the right joystick to navigate instead of the directional pad. That is a minor issue but not really the one that I need help with.

When I use gamestream to launch a game it goes to my Windows PC. Sometimes it will open steam in Big Picture Mode and other times in regular mode.

However instead of launching the game I am constantly getting the age verification. Once I do that I have to manually go to the game in steam to launch.

This didn't happen when I used Moonlight. The games exe should just launch.

Not sure why the games aren't launching properly.

My windows surface pro 3 just died and i am looking for a solution that address the following:

At home I watch netflix, but at my girlfriend's place the wifi is very bad and so I have to download (pirate bay) shows and hook the tablet to her non smart tv in order to watch our series. I need a device that must:

1. Have regular wifi function
2. Run netflix
3. Run android or pc torrent software
4. If its android it must not depend on a pc
5. Accept micro sd cards
6. Be powerfull enought for running office (windows or android based)
7. Be portable
8. Be a quality, well reviewed product

Note: i have a phablet with plenty of storage and miracast capabilities where i do all my web browsing. My ps4 satisfies all my gaming needs.

What is the most cost-effective solution you guys can think off?

I would appreciate any comments; i have looked at buying a compact pc (preferred not to spend much), An android tv, a miracast dongle, a chromecast, a cheap laptop (can be very frustrating if it has low performance)

My HDHomerun now records with Live Channels. One thing I can't figure out is where it places the recordings or even if I can't set a destination path.

Right now I assume it's putting them on my adoptable storage (64GB SDCard). I have multiple hard drives (NAS, 2TB USB hd, etc). I would like to put the recordings on my 2TB USB hard drive- anyone figure out how to set a path?

So I'm desperately looking for a way to leave my FireTV box because it keeps not waking up from sleep, forcing me to get up and physically unplug the FireTV and then replug it in just to wake up the unit. I've had enough, and I need an alternative. I just recently heard about MiBox and it all sounds fantastic, but is it true that there's no Amazon Prime Video app? So I wouldn't be able to watch Amazon Prime shows on it? I really don't have the funds to spend on an AppleTV or a Shield box, and I don't want a Roku because the PlaystationVue app which I use everyday is comically unusable on the Roku platform. Please help, I'm fighting hard everyday to NOT throw my FireTV through my living room window onto the street.

Hi guys, I just joined this subreddit and thought I'd start with an intro.

So I've been an Android supporter since Ice Cream Sandwich came out, but been a Google supporter, long before that. I recently convinced my parents to purchase the Sony Bravia XBR-55X850D 4K HDR Smart TV because this was the only 850-class TV that had Android TV built in.

My TV is running Version 6.0.1, Security patch of Oct. 1, 2016 and Build No. SVP4KDTV15_UC-user 6.0.1 MMB29V.S5 3.711 release-keys...

Out-of-the-box, this TV ran great. I instantly familiarized myself with navigation and understood the Play Store and other setting functionalities. However, I know Android TV is a work-in-progress, but its an interface that requires a lot of scrolling. The large icons are great and easy to recognize, but the main menu is just blahhh. Super plain.

YouTube works great, FoxNow and Netflix do too. What surprised me was that although it came preinstalled with Google Play Store, Music, Video & TV and Games store, it left out a TV version of Google Chrome. That is my biggest disappointment of the system so far.

The built-in in Chromecast feature is spot on. I couldn't have asked for a more convenient option, where I can immediately cast an album, video or website with a few taps/clicks.

The settings menu is very icon based. I was looking for something more text based like in my Motorola Moto G3 phone, but oh well, I know smart TVs cherish their icons a lot. Again easy to navigate, but one annoying thing about Android TV that really gets to me is the system lag between button presses. Its not as snappy as my mobile device, scrolling isn't smooth, but rather jagged and the Google Now speech recognition button has a delayed response. Upon clicking the microphone button on my remote, the Mic icon turns red, waits maybe 4-5 seconds and then "bleeep".. allows for recording. Its rather annoying.

Aside from the delayed search and inability to include an original web browser, the Android TV experience is pretty fair. I definitely appreciate a familiar interface as opposed to learning TouchWiz or some other manufacturer's version of Smart TV interface.

1. What browser would you recommend for the TV (that doesn't require a gamepad)?

2. How to get the most out of my Android TV experience?

3. Are there any developer options that can be unlocked on Android TV, as seen on smartphones?

4. What are some must have downloadable apps from the Play Store?

5. Are there any 3rd party app stores or apps that you recommend?

6. Would a few redditors be willing to compile a list of Android TV apps worth checking out with links? . .

I have a knaack for trying new apps frequently. So show me what you got!

Are you allowed to select video quality on apps? (Example: Youtube 1080p 60 FPS, Netflix, etc)

Or does it just guess which connection is best?

I have hardwired my nexus player and am looking for a solution to enable using the same Micro USB port to connect and use both at the same time. Possible???

up until yesterday my AndoirdTv powered PHILIPS 55PUS6401/12 ultra HD was running very smoothly. I turn it on today and bham, no wifi. i tried reconnecting to the wifi network, it displays a screen to enter the password, which the field pre-filled, i assume already saved in its memory, but nothing happens when i push the "Ok" button no the TV remote control. At the bottom of this same screen i see the Android TV remote control app logo and it says "Use keyboard on your mobile device". how i am supposed to do that if i cannot connect to the damn thing?! so i figure i will connect remotely with bluetooth. Nope, the app cannot see the TV at all.... bluetooth is turned on on both devices. what to do?

I see most recommendations for a USB adapter for the Mi box are for USB 3.0. Is that for future-proofing the adapter (since specs say the USB port on the Mi box is 2.0)?

Assuming that I have the Play store setting to auto-update my apps, does a sideloaded app also get updated if that particular app is in the play store? I need to keep an older version of a specific app, but would like my others to update.
