Youtube high quality option delayed on some videos?

So I was just wondering why I get different quality options, for the same video, on the Android TV YouTube app versus on my tablet or computer?

It doesn't always happen. Some videos are are fine as soon as they are released. All quality options are available. But others take way longer

For some it takes much much longer for the high quality options (above 480p) to be available on the TV app then anywhere else. In some cases a day or two. I can understand that there can be a time delay for the conversion initially but once it has them done they should be available regardless right? Am I missing some settings or something?

Nvidia Shield opens Steam keyboard when clicking in left stick during Gamestream?

I tried Gamestream for the first time on my Shield yesterday, and when I click in the left stick on my Shield controller, it opens up a Steam keyboard if I'm playing a game that isn't a Steam game (ex. Battlefield 1). I also own a Steam Link, so I recognize this keyboard as the keyboard the Steam Link uses when you type on it. The problem with this opening up is that games such as Battlefield 1 utilize the left stick click in order to sprint, and every time it opens, my game goes into windowed mode and prevents me from being able to move in the game.

I have tried games such as Rocket League, CS:GO, and GTA:V where none of which opened the keyboard when clicking in the left stick like it did in games like Battlefield 1 and Overwatch. I'm starting to believe that it has something to do with games that are not Steam that are causing this to happen.

mibox volume on passthrough

I recently got 2 miboxes. One used in bedroom straight to TV. The other is connected through my Denon AVR1713. I have Andorid IEC passthrough set for both options in the audio settings on this box. First when I set this it switches to DTS, Dolby etc. on the AVR as expected but if I volume down on the mibox remote I get nothing but static. I get pure static with the volume anything lower than 100% on the mibox remote. So in the mibox settings I changed some HDMI setting I forgot what exactly and now I don't get static on DTS/Dolby when I volume down but also the volume doesn't work at all from the mibox remote, it does when I'm on Netflix or any movie using Pro logic.

Any ideas what settings I could change to allow the mibox to passthrough DTS/Dolby as it is now but also have the mibox volume control work as well? Do I need to look at enabling hdmi CEC on the AVR perhaps?

Is there an android TV device that plays well with retroarch?

I've long been looking for a device that can run Netflix (in at least 1080p) + streaming media from a local server + Retroarch (at least up to N64).

It seems that the only possibility is the nVidia Shield TV, which is expensive as hell in Portugal.

Is there no other choice? The WeTek Hub and Mi Box seem to work fine for Kodi and suchlike, but I've been getting mixed reviews at best with Retroarch. Case in point, my Pine64 refuses to play sound through retroarch for no discernible reason (sounds plays elsewhere just fine).

Any help? Thanks!

Searching for an Android TV with AV Output that supports Netflix, Amazon and Crunchyroll

I've found countless China boxes on Amazon.de and Ebay.de which have an AV output, but on many Amazon reviews I saw people complaining about these boxes and that the manufacturer fakes many of the good reviews..

Can anyone recommend me one that actually supports all the apps I mentioned and has an AV output so I can use it with my old CRT TV?

I currently have used my Wii for this purpose but only the Netflix app is really usable and the WiiMC app can't playback all my local media, so I wanted to use Kodi on the Android tv for local media, but that shouldn't be a problem with most of the Android TVs.

I'd rather use my RaspberryPi for this, but since it doesn't support Netflix it's not an option..

I hear my voice replayed on Android TV while using Voice Search trough iOS remote?

Hello Everyone! I have a Philips 55PUS6561 Android TV, and unfortunately it doesn't have built-in mic. Without one the experience of searching for content is terrible. I downloaded an iPhone TV remote app: https://itunes.apple.com/app/android-tv/id1078761166?mt=8 and it provided the missing feature. Now I am able to use voice search. Unfortunately my voice is being replayed through speakers of my TV every time I use the feature. I find it not pleasant. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Plex Media Server will NOT start on my brand new Shield?!

I just bought a brand new Shield off of Amazon (the latest version). My plan is to use it as a Plex server connected to my networked array.

I plugged it into my ethernet and opened up Plex (I have Plex Pass) and opened my account. I saw the Plex Media Server turn on, but I couldn't see it in my computer's webbrowser when I connected to Plex. I saw that Plex has an update and ran that. But now, Plex Media Server refuses to start. It just logs into my old media server I have running on my desktop. Every time I click in "advanced" and "start Plex Media Server" which currently shows "stopped", it attempts to start the service but then gives up after 20 seconds.

I have tried every way to fix this. I have tried it on wireless and ethernet. I have tried it with a hard drive attached and linked to device storage and not attached. I have tried 5 factory data resets. I have wiped the data for Plex and Plex Media Storage, both before the update and after the update.

Nothing is letting me get Plex Media Server up and running. Plex is reporting version 5.5.0.227 (a6afa533).

HELP!

Plex on Mi Box and Nvidia Shield will not play any MPEG/xvid/MP3 video file...what gives?

It's as simple as the headline describes. Any attempt to play a video file that's encoded as MPEG/xvid video and MPEG/MP3 audio is met with a never-ending loading screen and loading circle. The files simply won't play on my Mi Box or my Nvidia Shield.

iPlayer keeps disappearing Nvidia Shield TV

Since the most recent Shield TV update the BBC iPlayer App keeps removing its self from the UI. It even removed its self while I was watching it!!

I know, I know, I'm in Ireland and have location turned off and language set to English UK. It was working fine and didn't disappear until the most recent update.

When it's there, it works fine! But it's weird that it disappears (and even more so, to do it while I was watching it!)

Shield or Steam Link+Android Box

Hey guys,

I want to be able to stream games from my PC to my TV as well as use Android TV. I know the Shield is pretty much top-of-the-line for this, but the problem is my PC is running a 560TI graphics card, so I can't use gamestream. Apparently there are apps that get around this (Remotr, KinoConsole), but I'm not sure how well they work. My other option would be to get both a Steam Link and an Android TV box (Mi Box maybe).

I've been leaning towards the Shield for its overall performance, but I don't know if not being able to use gamestream means I should go with the other option. What do you guys think?

Is there any disadvantage to disabling sleep on my Shield?

I once had a Nexus Player, and it never went into sleep mode. Either it didn't have that option, or it was disabled by default.

Now I have a Shield (2017), and by default it goes to sleep after a certain amount of time. The problem is, my TV's CEC remote isn't able to wake it. Is there any danger to disabling sleep mode? Could it overheat or somehow wear out?

Xfinity app updated anyone try it on android TV yet?

Comcast just updated their Xfinity app (2/28) to the new Xfinity stream app. At work so cant easily check to see if it side loads and works or not but figured I'd pass it along to see if anyone has tried yet. I know the old app wouldn't work past a certain version and if you were running Android 7 none of them would work.

Sony Bravia + Vizio soundbar - random, ear-splitting buzzing noise even when TV & bar are powered off.

Hi all,

I just recently purchased a Sony Bravia XBR-43X800D TV. Best TV I've ever owned in my life, but I've got one problem - I've been pairing it with an old Vizio soundbar (NB3530A, if it makes a difference.)

If I leave the TV and soundbar both plugged and just let them hibernate, at random points throughout the day the soundbar will let out an awful, loud buzzing noise. I'm talking so loud it will make your ears ring if you're in the same room with it.

There seems to be no rhyme or reason - it can go for days without doing it, or it can do it as soon as I turn the screen off after watching TV. Powering off the soundbar doesn't stop it, the only way is to unplug it.

I've looked online and found nothing useful. I already dropped a shitload of money on this TV, really not looking to buy a new soundbar when my current one sounds just fine (when it's not making my ears bleed.)

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Edit: In case it's useful info, I'm connecting it via optical cable.

Smart DNS Does Not Work as Well on Xiaomi as on Shield

I am using SmartDNS to get geoblocked channels on both my Xiaomai and Shield devices. I have the SmartDNS info on both devices, as well as my phone.

With most services, I can call them up on my phone and then use the GoogleCast functionality to stream from the Android TV Box to the TV. For example, this works perfectly with BBCIplayer.

However, there are certain services that work fine on the Shield, but will not cast on the Xiaomi. These services that only work on the Shield include All 4 (channel 4 UK) and My5 (channel 5 UK).

I know this is a pretty esoteric question, but any ideas out there as to why I can cast these services to one Android TV device but not the other?

Hey everyone - I know that the UFC app, when downloaded to a sony android tv, supports 4k video.

What I have been unable to figure out is if the normal UFC app downloaded from the android store also supports 4k. OR, if it is possible to get the 4k capable app from the sony tv exported on to other devices running embedded android (specifically a fireTV).
