I'm getting a projector and a Shield TV. I also have a 5.1 surround setup, and would like to route all audio from Shield to that setup.
Problem is, it's a rental flat and the projector is ceiling-mounted in place of a chandelier, so all I have is power and ethernet over powerline. Even if I could get the audio wiring over there, the projector has only stereo output anyway. Just to be clear, Shield is sitting on top of the projector, with a network cable in and an HDMI cable out.
Now, I have a PC on the floor in the same room (the one which I'll be streaming games from sometimes), and I can attach the surround system to it, but:
Has anybody done anything like this? Or do you have any relevant info? I've seen AllStream / AirAudio, but I'm not sure if they support surround (seen only a vague hint at 7.1 support on some random pirate website). Maybe there's some WiFi USB DAC I could attach to Shield instead? Or maybe I could pair the PC with Shield over Bluetooth (also can't verify if 5.1 can be played over modern BT...)? It also seems that I can play audio locally when streaming from PC with Moonlight, but I'd like to have all audio on Shield go to my PC.
Any help is much appreciated.
