Connect Android TV to WiFi that uses username and password (Eduroam)

Please help,

We have an Android TV that we need to connect to the Eduroam WiFi at a university.
When we select the Eduroam WiFi we are only prompted for the password and not the username.

Is there any way we can enter the username?

Does SmartTubeNext supports chapters?

I switched to this app a week ago, and it's great. It works really well, but I noticed that the chapters don't show up, and it's a function that I used a lot. Perhaps is just disabled somewhere?

Casting 4k video from phone to Hisense U8g not working

So I have a 1gb 4k video I'm trying to cast from my phone a Samsung A52 5G running Android 11 to my Hisense U8g TV but every app I run it through crashes. Mxplay, Vlcplayer, internal google cast, Web Video Caster.

Is the problem my phone? Can the Hisense not handle it and I'd need to route it to a Google 4k or high powered android box?

Changes to Ambient Mode (Chromecast with Google TV 4K)

I was un-pleasantly surprised with a change to ambient mode (some time within the last 24 hours). It seems they are adding advertisements to different things (Youtube (Fox business? Really? Not my style google), podcasts, etc.).

Steps to get rid of them (at least for now):

After talking with support I was assured the fix we did was the actual fix (who's to say for actual certain). We had found that if you turn off Voice Match in your Google Home app then it seemed to make them disappear. (Click on the device in Google Home App->Click settings gear on top right->Recognition & sharing-> Turn off voice match for this device (that was enough for me). Restarted the google TV and they were gone.

Don't mind the white, just removing some Info.

YouTube suddenly changed its UI

Am I the only one who noticed YouTube's UI changed? I no longer have the recommended bar at the top of the home screen. It was the best because it compiled new uploads from all my regular channels, as well as algo recommendations, now it goes instantly into categories with 4 videos in each category and I can't find where something like a scheduled show for tonight is, that would normally be the first option in 'suggested' without going through 8 different steps to get it.

Can't see what's being selected...

I was wondering if someone might be able to help me out with the following:

I'm using a legacy app, which works perfectly, except for the fact that it's nearly impossible for me to see what's actually being selected (highlighted, would be selected if I clicked).

Android TV box limits usage (Explanation in Post)

No Netflix

Kodi

Apk installation

I have an Android TV box that I got from my internet provider that's connected to their own streaming service they have. I can watch what they have in their service, but it's pretty much limited for other uses. Some examples (with pictures):

  1. They just magically removed Netflix from the Play Store, so I can't watch anything

  2. Tried installing Kodi, but 1 minute into setting it up the box just decided to remove Kodi and gave me a error code.

  3. Can't install apks into the box.

I just cancelled my subscription yesterday, so the TV box is pretty useless now. I thought that maybe they made their own Android OS and put it in their devices. So can I just uninstall their OS and install a custom one? Or is there a way to fix it?

Best Android TV Box under 100€ for gaming with Steamlink without issues ? (with LAN ethernet port)

EDIT / UPDATE : So after looking for a long time, all I could find under 100€ were options that had some latency with Steamlink, according to other redditors posts on r/steam_link. (Or were options from China which were not the most reliable apparently)

I decided to focus on getting the cheapest most reliable streamer and I went for the Chromecast with Google TV HD since my TV is only 1080p. It seems like Stremio works like a charm on it (according to r/Stremio).

Regarding gaming, I will try steam link on it but if it has too much lag, I will get a long HDMI cable, since my computer is in the same room. More efficient and cheaper.

ORIGINAL POST :

Hello everyone!

I am looking to buy an Android TV box under 100€ and need some buying advice because there are too many choices and I struggle to find the best.

My uses will be :

  • Playing Steam games I have on my computer via Steamlink (or is there a better option?). My computer is powerful and hooked via ethernet to a 1gb/s fiber network, so I'm looking for a box with an ethernet port.

  • Streaming content with third party subtitles. As I'm french, I watch all my TV shows / movies with subs. As of now, I have a regular Chromecast dongle but it's failing terribly to display content with subs 3/4 of the time. (Worse case : content doesn't play at all, Regular case : subs don't appear, Best case : Subs appear out of sync) I think it's a matter of Codecs so I'm looking for a box with all possible subs codecs to avoid this kind of issue.

  • Installing third party apps (like Stremio). The box must be running Android so I can access Play Store and allow installation of third party apk.

Thank you!

Any way of "re-pairing" my phone to my TV?

I have a google assistant routine that turns my TV on and off at certain times of the day. I recently updated my phone (Galaxy S21 Ultra) to Android 12, and now when ever I open up the remote control app (from dragging down in notifications and tapping it), the remote can't find my TV, it just gets stuck on searching. Funnily enough my google assistant routine still works perfectly.

Is there any way to pair it to the TV again so that I can control the TV with my phone?

Is there any type of custom operating system for just an Android TV?

I just have a plain TCL Android TV from a year ago and it's stuck on Android version 9 and I was wondering if there were custom roms I could flash onto it. I already de bloated it partially with the ADB command. I heard there was Lineage but you needed a raspberry pi or a box and not just a regular Android TV. Is there type available for just the TV because that would be sick if there is.

Giving up on FireTV devices - homebrew Android tv options?

As you may know, Amazon has recently gone to war against custom launchers for their FireTV line of products. These custom launchers are literally the only redeeming feature of FireTV, without them the products are laggy pieces of trash.

So I am hoping y'all can give me some direction toward what options are available for homebrew build android tv box that can run Kodi/Netflix/Prime Video/YouTube ?

I guess Raspberry Pi 4 would be the go-to hardware, but my experience with them has been they are better used as servers and not media centers (coming from RPi3).

Looking for the best solution to run ONLY Kodi on an Android TV box.

I work in the shipping industry. We have a Synology NAS as a movie/TV server. We are currently using Samsung smart TVs (Tizen OS) to watch videos but, the interface is horrid and doesn't display any information or images and there's no search feature. I would like to run KODI for the UI. I need a device that uses ethernet that I can have on the network but block it's internet access. I would prefer being able to uninstall any apps that I don't need.

Can't change resolution on TCL with Google TV

Hey everybody. I just bought a new 4K QLED TCL TV and my problem is that the home screen is always showing in 1080p instead of 4K. If I switch to my PS4 or if I play a movie on Netflix which is UHD 4K there is no problem, everything is indeed 4K. I tried to look on google on how to change the Home resolution to UHD but I can't seem to find the option to change resolution anywhere in the option menu. Is there a way to change the resolution of Google TV Home on a TCL TV?

hisense q7g, 18 months old returns to old settings

The tv has 4gb and showed the other day "low storage". I tried to unintall all three apps which I installed and was able to free up 300mb.

Or so I thought.

Once I rebooted all apps were back available and the 'low storage' message kept popping up. I tried a few USB sticks and formated the drive as system storage. After turning the tv off the memory stick was again an "unrecognized USB device".

If I try to reset to factory settings the the tv turns off and stay off. Once turned on it will go back to the previous state where my 3 apps are present, no additional system storage added and storage low.

If I try to book in safe mode, it will turn off and go back to the above mentioned state.

Very frustrating if your tv runs out of memory due to system app updates. (If I try to uninstall updates the tv will power off and go back to the previous state).

Is there anything else I can do to get the tv functional again?

Boot up loop

Hi! Our Philips Android tv just keeps looping the Philips logo. We tried downloading software onto a usb to hopefully help it continue after it boots up and it worked once, but then not again. Where could I go to download a loader (or whatever it’s called)? I have tried both the Philips and android sites. I feel like we just have the “correct” one. I’m not very tech savvy.
