Brightness is Gone After Update

Updated my Sony X800D last night and today I immediately noticed the screen was really dull. I assumed the update reset the brightness, but when I went to check the brightness it was still on max and it makes no difference turning it down to the lowest setting. Anyone know what gives?

Android TV LPCM Signal

Hi!

Maybe this is a dumb question but here it goes:

I have a Philips 55PUS6412 connected to a Sony HTRT-4 soundbar (via HDMI ARC).

When I connect my PS4 and cable box to the TV and I get 5.1 sound but it doesn't work with my Nintendo Switch. I've read that it's because of LPCM 5.1 and it got me wondering... is there a way/app for Android TV that converts the signal and outputs as AC3/DTS/Dolby?

Thanks!

xiaomi mi box s

I got the new xiaomi mi box s and would love to get the live channels button to work with plex live tv, but it seems the live tv app on the mi box has a bug that wont let it run, at least on mine, has anyone else experienced this?

I have tried to uninstall updates and re-update and all I can get it to do is load up and close right away. Next step would be a factory reset.

Thanks in advance for the help!

What would be nice feature to implement for Android TV?

So I am participating in hackathon this week where we will be building apps for Android TV, and any idea about what is it that you want to be implemented would be great info. I am not a user of this technology so I am not quite sure what feature could make life of ATV users easier or happier. Maybe we can help each other 😀

Android TV Remote App and MiBox3

Hello everybody, I have a problem and it seems that it is not possible to find a solution. I have tried to connect the MiBox3 to my smartphone, a Xiaomi Mi5 for what it matters - and actually to my father's Iphone as well - but the result is always the same: the Google Android TV Remote app finds the MiBox and it tries to connect, but in a second it disconnect. I have tried through WiFi and also Blueetooth, with the latter being absolutely a fail because I am not able to find the MiBox.

Any ideas? I have tried to google it and also reddit it, without success.
In the end what I need is to have a remote app to paste links from my smartphone to my MiBox. Or maybe from my computer to my smartphone, why not.

TLDR: Google remote app for android tv doesn't work with MiBox3, neither Wifi nor Bluetooth. Tried and failed with a second smartphone. I need an app to past links from smartphone to MiBox3.

UPDATE WITH SOLUTION Problem solved with the solution of z0l1, see the post below. Thank you guys for the help!

PSA: If you bought the Nvidia SHIELD Amazon Black Friday deal on Amazon for $120, check your order and credit card

Last week around Black Friday Amazon was offering a $21 coupon on top of the $140 sale. The shield was out of stock so orders were delayed.

Once the order processed for me the $21 credit was removed and the total jumped up, so now I have to reach out to Amazon support.

I have a feeling this bug affected other orders as well, check your receipts!

Mi Box 3 to Mi Box S: Just As Bad

I'm writing this post not because I dislike Android TV nor because I dislike the idea of a cheap and official Android TV box, but rather as a summary of my experience with the Mi Box S after my Mi Box 3 stopped booting. My hopes are that Android TV someday reaches its full potential on standalone devices and doesn't simply run as a Smart TV Operating System. (Edit: This may be a rant tbh)

My first impressions of both devices was positive for the most part, with everything Android TV offered working as promised. The Voice Search tool, Live Channels, and overall look and feel was left untouched by Xiaomi, spare for some channel recommendations that you can't get rid of. Performance wasn't buttery smooth but it was acceptable on both devices. Overall I was happy with the boxes and their features.

Within a month of owning m Mi Box 3, issues started popping up. At first they were minor, like apps stopping randomly once or twice a week; however, they soon escalated to bigger problems like the box not powering back on without being disconnected and reconnected to power. Eventually Nougat was released and I naturally assumed the box was no longer being supported. That was fine, as things still worked for the most part. Oreo came out and it was all the new features with the same old issues. I'd reset the box several times at that point, and was kinda tired of it. It wasn't until about a month ago, after owning the box for just under two years that it turned off and never booted back up.

Frustrated, I contacted Xiaomi Support and they exchanged the device for the "new" Mi Box S. Although I was aware that this box contained the same internals and was more a design refresh than anything, I had been hoping that at the very least some of the bugs that were present in the Mi Box 3 would've been fixed. Within a week of receiving the box however, I am faced with not only the same performance and power issues, I am also faced with a network issue that prevents the box from maintaining a stable connection to my Wireless Router. The solution to this problem seems to be unknown at the moment, but at this point it seems like Xiaomi either doesn't know or doesn't care enough to fix these issues in their product.

At this point, I'm torn. My favorite part of the Mi Box was the idea that there was a cheap alternative to the Nvidia competition, but as I saw in a recent r/TalesFromTechSupport story, "Good Stuff isn't Cheap, and Cheap Stuff isn't Good." Even in the higher price tiers, there still doesn't seem to be a proper Android TV aside from Nvidia's offerings, and honestly the demand seems so low that I can see why. So I guess the point of this all is really to stress that if you wanted an Android TV without having to buy a new TV, you've basically got one option and that's it. Maybe someday we'll see more Android TVs that don't look like Gaming Machines or Kid's Toys (I've neglected to mention the AirTV because of its atrocious design.)

Channels DVR Freezing on Shield

Does anyone else use Channels DVR (getchannels.com) ? Haven't actually committed to using the DVR portion but bought the app for my 16GB Shield to watch my HD Homerun Prime. App looks great but the video on any channel tends to freeze after 1-2 minutes of viewing until I switch channels. Same issue on my MiBox. Plenty of free space on both devices. Everything is wired with Cat 6. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Bad user experience in stock Android TV - What now? TV: Philips 49" LED-TV 49PUS6432

I currently have a Philips 49" LED-TV 49PUS6432, which comes with AndroidTV out of the box. The TV itself is fine, however the Android TV user experience is quite bad.

It often lags heavily, both in apps and in the menus, and is overall a nuisance to use. In certain apps the framerate seems to be very low. Streaming the same apps from a phone using Chromecase Ultra yields much better picture quality and framerate.

What are my options in this case? I have of course downloaded and installed the latest software.

Are there any possibilities to root Android TV and gain improvement that way through third party software?

If not, are there any devices running Android TV that can be recommended? Ones that run software completely replacing my stock Android TV.

Advice on improving Oreo homescreen

I really, really have tried to get used to the Oreo layout, but it still appears ugly to me and I find it less functional than the previous iteration of the Android TV homescreen. My family also dislikes it. I got a new Firestick4k for the remote, but dammit I actually prefer using the stick to an Oreo upgraded shield - madness.

Is there a straightforward method to install a launcher that will get back at least the old layout, if not solve the bugs that Oreo introduced to my previously flawless shield?

Many thanks.

[The following is just a rant, please feel free to ignore.]

Oreo is bland and cluttered at the same time. Count how many different shapes, sizes and aspect ratios the icons have on the screen at any one time - total mess! I forget which apps I have installed as only a few can be placed front and centre, "play next" just has bombsquad in it (is ANYTHING compatible with that functionality?!) and whichever channels I add below just have the usual unwanted recommendations.

Coupled to this, occasional random freezes and Chromecast sometimes chooses not to work, even after a factory reset since I updated earlier this year.

My ideal world would be one where the voice assistant would piss off and just revert to in-app voice search like it was originally, the launcher reverted to the clean, elegant and useful Marshmallow/Nougat version, and the Firestick4k remote would pick up voice.

[Apologies, but I feel better now]
