Anyone using an IR Remote with the MiBox 3? If yes, does it still work when the original remote acts up?

Just wondering if anyone is using an IR remote with their MiBox 3?

Specifically, I'm wondering if it still works when the BT remote is acting up?

If, yes what IR remote are you using... I understand that the Harmony remotes are supposed to work...

I'm just a bit tired of unplugging my MiBox when the BT remote starts acting up, and looking for a possible solution...

Google home mini/Google home hub or 2017 Nvidia Shield TV controller?

So basically my old faithful 2015 shield TV accessories are dying more specifically the microphones on both remote and controller. I was hoping the Nvidia Spot would someday make an appearance but that seems very unlikely.

What do you people think of the Google home integration with the shield? Or should I just get the new controller with the always listening microphone?

I have been eyeing the upcoming home hub as an alarm clock/bedside radio with the screen to compliment my smart bulbs/power sockets and watching some videos as a bonus.

WHY AndroidTV doesn't come with a browser?

Hi,

please WHY do you think a company like Google didn't include a browser in it's OS for TVs?

I don't understand..

I found some guides for intalling Chrome/Firefox, are they hacks or what? And do they decrease the security of our devices?
Many thanks :)

Please help with Mibox?

A while back a friend gave me a mibox. It was obviously modified. I would like to find a substitute for Terrarium. However, the friend is no longer available to help. I am new to this but I am a quick learner and am good at following directions 😉. Is anyone willing to help me figure out what to do. Some of the add-ons/builds it came with don’t work anymore. Thanks.

MiBox 3 Android 8 ad free youtube for chromecast

I have a MiBox 3 with the latest android 8. I want to disable youtube ads while casting from the phone.

Tried youtube vanced and disabling the default youtube app. It's working partially. It doesn't have the default interface and the ads are blocked when the video is played from the app. But it doesn't working while casting from the phone. The phone also have youtube vanced.

Tried alternate dns in the router and adguard dns. Doesn't solve it.

Also tried ad guard, still ads.

Is there any way to disable the youtube ads while casting?

byebye Mi Box, Questions about Shield TV

So I will sell my Mi Box soon, we all know about the Software bugs I think. It makes me so angry I just want to get rid of it.

Previously I had a cheap Firestick which also sucked bad. So I am tired of sucking tv boxes... And the shield is regarded as the best.

My question is, will I have any issues with:

  • Netflix, Amazon Prime, Youtube, Plex, or other common Apps? (afaik Shield is one of the few that has prime)
  • any widespread known bugs I need to check when I buy one (return if affected)
  • Games: I don't think I'll be playing much on the shield... maybe streaming from local PC or Free android games
  • Which Version do you recommend? (with controller?) I have a Bluetooth controller that works with android devices (Gamesir).

Netflix keeps closing on Mi Box

So I open the app and after 5 seconds or the app will crash and close, so I cannot even use it. I'm using it on a 1080p TV so it's a not a 4k thing. Any one else have this problem and have you found a way to fix it. I've uninstalled updates and cleared cache and data but to no avail.

Edit: So I deleted some apps and Netflix is no longer crashing, I'm guessing one of the apps was doing something to Netflix. A weird fix but it's working fine for now.

Is the Mi Box 3 as unusable as it sounds?

I ordered one today and I'm already starting to regret it now that I read more about it. Supposedly it has a lot of issues since the 8.0 update that haven't been fixed, ranging from WiFi issues to audio issues with Netflix and such. How bad are these? Are there any planned fixes? I don't know if I should cancel my order. I just want a basic streaming box, but maybe shield TV would be better after all.

Is there an app where I can check if an AndroidTV TV is compatible of wide color gamut and other standards?

I am planning to get a new 4K UHD TV with AndroidTV OS (Google-certified, not broken versions) which are available from Sony, Sharp, TCL, Toshiba (Skyworth) or Philips.

However, I have a lot of choices but it will be much better if it has wide color gamut and support for various HDR standards (Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HLG, etc.) and sound codecs (Dolby Digital, DTS, etc.).If an app exists, it will definitely help me narrow down my choices.

TCL, Sharp,Skyworth and some manufacturers do not specify support for wide color gamut and HDR standards. I have sent this question to their respective customer support groups and not a single one replied to my question since I assume that they were given basic information.

The appliance stores in my area encourage customers to bring their own USB with video tester files to check video quality and to install APKs (given that they are not games and rooting/exploit tools).

How's the Android performance on recent Sony TVs?

I have a 2015 Sony Android TV (XBR49X830C) and, honestly, its "smart" features have been abysmal. I really liked Android TV on my Nexus Player and when trying out a Shield, but not the built-in system. The UI lags like crazy and it's wildly unstable with frequent kernel panics and reboots, especially since the Marshmallow update, that I can't even diagnose because I can't read its kernel logs without root, and factory resets haven't helped. Its built-in Cast Receiver is also way buggier than a standalone Chromecast.

I have some interest in getting a newer TV in the not-too-distant future because I want full array local dimming, HDR, and a bigger panel, but I'd rather stick to built-in smarts because HDMI ports are at a premium to me between multiple Nintendo and Sony game consoles, speakers, and a (non-DRM-compatible) HTPC while every switcher I've tried has CEC issues.

Have Android TV sets improved since 2015 on this front, and is there any indication they might improve much next year? Are there any sources that actually list the "smarts" specs for comparing different TV sets in the product lineup? My XBR49X830C for example has a MT5890 SoC with 2 ARMv7 cores, 1.5GB RAM, and 8GB /data partition. I'm not as interested in stuff like games as just having streaming apps that actually work.

App selection Request: Football Highlights

Hi All,

Curious to know if anyone knows of any apps that show highlights of sport, namely the English Premier League?
Ive been searching the Play store but cant seem to find anything that's made for Android TV. All apps seem to focus on Mobile and i don't want to sideload them. I'd like a native app.

Thanks

I've been using the Ematic Jetstream for a full day

I must say that I've been blaming the s905x chipset for being underpowered. I should also say that I was wrong. Is it NVidia shield level? Not at all, but it's not a wide margin. Comparatively my MiBox feels like it was made in a different era.

The Good:

  • No de-interlacing issues when watching live TV so you can actually read scroll bars on news channels etc. and sports aren't a mess
  • The UI is snappy
  • 4K 60fps video plays without a hiccup
  • Auto Surround Sound works in apps like Netflix, Live Channels, and HDHomerun (although I had to turn off Dolby Sounds in the settings then restart the device to get it to auto switch)
  • The power button works EVERY time so far (quickly too I might add)
  • The remote feels good in hand
  • All the ports

The Bad:

  • The remote button layout between the "Back, Home, Apps (great addition given the UI btw)" row and the Volume row could be spaced out more
  • Weird video artifacts on restart
  • Odd CEC behaviour initially turned my TV on and OFF when it went to sleep, but I generally turn off CEC with my setup so YMMV
  • No official Prime Video app

If anyone has any questions or specific requests, let me know and I'll try to test stuff over the next few days. So far this is looking like a winner in the value/$ category. Good thing I bought 2 to replace my MiBox and aging Nexus.

Does my TV have Android?

I have the low end Sony kd43xe7073 and was told on another sub it might have Android or be able to accept my own choice of apps.

Did this sound correct?

Can see any mention of it online or when using the TV.

Thanks

MiBox MDZ-16-AB - Frozen at splash screen - how to recover?

Hey all,

I have an American Mi Box MDZ-16-AB that a few weeks back froze up and no only boots to the splash screen and does nothing more.

I would like to attempt to boot this into recovery and try flashing the stock rom, however I am having a terrible time finding any sort of clear and concise instructions/files for this box.

If anyone could give some guidance (or atleast a link to the latest stock rom) I would very grateful.

Thanks!

Netflix error code NW-6-400 on VU Android tv

Hi All,

I bought VU Official Android TV with Android Oreo a couple days ago. when i tried installing netflix, it said that it might not be compatible with the device, but that i could go through with the install.

Once it was installed, when i tried to open it, it shows error code NW-6-400.

I tried chatting with netflix support, but iit seems even they are stumped with this issue.

They asked me to verify thrice that the error code was wnding with 400 and not 406, as 406 is a network issue.

Anybody else facing this issue? Any potential solution?

Accidentally had split screen on Philips Android TV, how I do this?

Hi all, hope you can help. I sat on my remote the other day, somehow split the youtube app to the left side of the screen, like you can with an android phone.

The thing is I don't know how I did it. At one point I went to home selected a different app, it opened on the right. Had to reset the TV to restore fill screen.

Does anyone know how I did his? My Philips TV doesn't support multiview apparently, but if I can do Android split screen that'd be great.

Games leaving?

In the past six months I've been unable to get Dan The Man to work and the developers said the AndroidTV version is discontinued because it doesn't support required features. Today I discovered Horizon Chase is hanging on the title screen and reviews on the Play store seem to indicate this is a known issue that's being ignored. I was hoping to finally get a Shield this year but if the games are leaving there's not much point in that...

Are we losing games and apps or is this just me? I'm using a Nexus Player.
