MiBox laggy

Hi, I have a MiBox since a year and until yesterday works great. Now I'm trying to use with a 4K tv with poor results.

Kodi has many of lags while playing videos, even if the played video isn't 4K and/or h265.

Basically, the same video is laggy on a 4K, but it looks good on a FHD tv.

JBL Link Bar will be my next Android TV device because of this

Google controls the software on the device. That means no waiting for updates. Unlike my damn Shield TV that still hasn’t even gotten Android O, the JBL Link Bar will have all updates provided by Google.

That alone is a killer feature for me.

All the other cool bits are just a bonus, not the least of which is that I wanted a sound bar anyway.

"TV Storage is Full"?

Check this out

My device is definitely not full. This happens while using the Live Channels app for any length of time. I can restart the app and it will go away for a while but will eventually pop up again at some point.

Anyone have any idea what's going on? This is happening on a Mi Box and a Shield TV. I do use TVirl w/ Live Channels on both of these devices.

Flash memory reliability.

Hello guys. I have read the information that flash memory is pretty unreliable. Idk is it truth or not, but just to be sure. So, article says that use of flash memory as disk cache for live and VOD broadcasts can quickly disable flash memory and the author of this statement proposes a solution – USB Flash drive or portable HDD for internal storage. Is my android tv uses flash memory when I watching a movie from USB flash drive or HDD or is it use RAM and I do not need to worry? Thanks.

P.S. Sorry for any mistakes, English is not my native language

I want an AndroidTV box or the ability to create a DIY one. Don't you?

With the recent news at Google io of the new JBL sound bar incorporating Android TV I got frustrated.

If I want to run AndroidTV today I have limited options. Replace the 3 NUCs in my house and / or the VM running in my living room with:

  • Cheap Android box x4
  • Expensive Nvidia Sheild x 4
  • Crazy expensive new TV x4

Don't like either option.

With the expected announcements I thought for sure we would get something like what I want. I felt for sure we would get an upgraded Chromecast with AndroidTV on it. What did we get:

  • Indication that a developer version of what I want exists but will not make it's way to consumers
  • Notice that what I want is coming but is only built into (what will be) an expensive sub standard speaker (to my dedicated receiver and sound system anyway) with what I want built in

I asked myself why they wont make this developer dongle available to consumers- I don't know why - i realised its clearly about packaging AndroidTV into partner hardware solutions. Making money. Why would they want to give us the ability to create our own when they have something they can tell their partners will drive sales.

Bugs me.

Mi box Oreo Question

I saw an article of Oreo being on beta testers Mi Boxes a while ago, but it's been quiet ever since.

I have one question: Does anyone know if Oreo will eventually reach regular Mi Box, and if so, when?

I don't know if the details of I/O has made any difference, so maybe it will affect the Oreo roll out for Mi Boxes

The jbl speaker with assistant, is it enough to ditch nvidia shield

I saw the JBL soundbar that was in Google ionic, and I have a NVIDIA shield box. Just wondering do you reckon that soundbar rocks especially since it has far field mics built in.

Would it be enough to get rid of the shield, especially since I don't use it for gaming ? I'm hoping that it would have better tuner support than the shield (and I don't have to use Plex).

I regret purchasing a Mi box. What's the point of Android TV?

Hi,

Sorry for coming out strong but I couldn't be more disappointed with my recent purchase. Long story short, instead of spending 500€ on a new smart TV, I decided to purchase a Mi Box instead. After a week, I can honestly say this is one of the worst purchases I've ever made because only Netflix and the chromecast features seem to work. Google Play Music (which was the main reason I bought it for) doesn't play any songs, YouTube doesn't play any videos, VLC player doesn't recognize new files in my USB thumb drive, none of the IPTV tutorials I see online work.

I know this is a dedicated community and will probably get a lot of flack for this post, but I just wanted to express my disappointment with Android TV. Instead of wasting 60€ on this, I could have purchased a second-hand Chromecast for 15€ and get the exact same functions, since Chromecast is all this thing seems to be able to do.

What's even the point of Android TV? Have things always been this bad?

ABOX A1 Max Stuck at logo screen indefinitely

Hey everyone. I'm extremely new to the Android TV space and I'm at a loss here.

Everything was working fine until I installed an app to hide my root and it requested a reboot. Now it won't go past the logo screen. I can get it into recovery mode, so I'm hoping it's still salvageable.

Here's all the info I could find on it:

On the box:

  • Model: A1 Max
  • CPU: Amlogic Quad-core Cortex-A53
  • GPU: Quad-core Mali-450 GPU
  • RAM: 2GB
  • ROM: 16GB

From recovery mode:

  • Amlogic/A95X_R2/A95X_R2
  • 7.1.2/ABOX-I-MAX/20171211

My first go at it was to try a factory reset, but it didn't do anything. My next idea was to reinstall the firmware, but I've looked up and down for a firmware download for this particular box and I haven't been able to find anything.

Is anyone able to help me? If you require more information, I will get it for you.
