Google live channels

We need Google to Allow the use of paid subscription apps like PlayStation Vue , sling TV , direct TV , YouTube tv , Hulu TV , did I miss anyone .

Allow them services to be detected by Google live channels as a source and add them channels into the App guide line up .

That would be hella cool and if we use DVR it would be recorded to that apps DVR and we would have to open the app or live channels would send us to the video file .

Anyone else agree and if you are a developer and wanna pitch this idea over to G.

Shield ('16/16GB) YouTube app starts HD, then buffers, then freezes forever.

This is driving me crazy trying to figure it out. It's connected via WiFi as it always has been. But this started happening suddenly around a week ago. My YouTube has been rendered useless and it can no longer play through any video, regardless of video length.

Same for casting from Chrome or any other casting app.

Also the controller refuses to reconnect after going to sleep. I have to pull the Shield's power cord and restart to use it again.

Built in Chromecast not full screen on TV

Hello,

I got a new TV recently that has built in Chromecast. The TV is a Sony 55" 4K Smart TV, model#XBR55X800E.

I am trying to cast using my Google Pixel XL (same issue with wife's Samsung Note 5). I am using supported apps, and even Google produced apps with the same issue.

The issue is that when I cast a video to the TV using it's built in Chromecast, it only shows on about 2/3 of the screen and is pinned to the top left of the screen. When I use my regular Chromecast I plug into the TV, I do not experience any issues.

Any thoughts on what the reason for this is, or how to fix it?

Privacy with family-shared Shield

Received my Shield a few days ago. Signed in with my main gmail account. What struck me immediately was that the youtube app was curated to my subscriptions, watch history etc.

Ii signed out of youtube. Then clicked again to sign in and it signed in right away.

II'd really prefer to not clutter my own youtube with the crap my kids watch, nor do I want my viewing history out there for anyone to peruse.

I see I can disable app, and that is probably an OK fallback. But I'm sure I'm not the first with this issue. I'd like to use my main account for the sake of gamestream with nvidia, play music, etc.

Any advice is appreciated.

Using HDHomeRun DVR on Nvidia Shield TV box

I signed up for Plex's lifetime subsription last year (great deal). Plex on the 2nd gen Nvidia Shield records most of my shows without a problem, but Plex currently doesn't record / write to ssd some shows unless I just happen to reboot the Shield, say 24 minutes into the recording, then the Shield writes to ssd those 24 minutes (I have another thread about this -- folder is created but no .ts file written for some shows unless rebooting). Anyway, I want to sign up for HDHomeRun's DVR software too and see if HDHomeRun can catch those shows that Plex currently doesn't.

On SiliconDust's DVR page, it says, "Our App is available for many Android Devices (minimum Android 4.4.2). Additional storage required for recorded content with the exception of Nvidia Shield TV 500Gb which can be used for recording."

I don't have the 500 Gb Shield mentioned in the quote above. Instead I use the 16-gig Shield combined with a 500-gig Samsung SSD. That shouldn't be a prob, should it? I don't want to install HDHomeRun DVR on a separate PC computer (aka, noise-maker). I would like to install it on the totally silent Shield with ssd as adoptive storage.

Is YouTube live streams not working for anyone esle?

Wondering if anyone is still on the old YouTube app and not having live streams working is there a way of getting it to work I don't wanna revert to the new app I don't care for it at all thought. I don't see a point and loading it in chrome or even Kodi at times when it should work on the YouTube app it self. Any suggestions?

Has anyone got this working? I saw people talking about webcam for this purpose. I bought a Samson USB microphone for this purpose I was hoping it would be an improvement over the shield remote. Two questions:

  1. Has anyone gotten a USB microphone to work? If so how / what kind?
  2. PS eye works... But does it work for OK Google when the shield is off?

How can I control Kodi's volume, not the system volume, with the remote control?

The default volume control does not affect my receiver but using an app (Yatse) to control the Kodi app does lower and raise the volume of Kodi.

Is there a setting I can change to change the volume of Kodi with the remote control that comes with the Mi Box?

Nvidia Shield: anyone using the "Assistant while TV is off" setting?

I was digging around in the settings for my Shield and discovered there is a setting you can enable that says it allows you to use Google Assistant while the TV is off. Does anyone know how this would actually work? Surely with the TV off there's no way to hear the audio responses? Has anyone set it up?

Cast / screen mirror from Android TV to chromecast / miracast?

Is it possible to mirror my Android TV to a chromecast stick or a miracast dongle?

I've tried sideloading the Google Home app in addition to some third-party apps, but I either run into errors or the other devices do not show up.

I haven't tried rooting my mibox yet. Would that help, possibly?

Fire TV apks port to Android TV

Does anyone have Syfy, AMC and BBC apps that may be Amazon Fire TV versions (signed or unsigned apps) that can be installed on Android TV (specifically Nvidia Shield TV).

The fact that these providers have native TV apps in Amazon and not Android TV is forking ridiculous.

Notifications for Android TV

So I'm using the app Notifications for Android TV to send notifications to my screen. So I can see who is calling me on my phone the moment it rings.

Unfortunately, leaving every notification up on this would be insane, with all the apps we have on our phones. So instead of black listing apps, I've turned all notifications off, unless they are white listed. Like I don't need a notification for Pixel Ambient song ID, or for my Automatic telling me where I am parked.

So far I've white listed the following apps:

  • Discord
  • Gmail
  • IFTTT
  • Messages
  • Messenger (Facebook)
  • PS Messages (Playstation)
  • Paypal
  • Phone
  • Twitter
  • Venmo

Are there any other apps do you guys use, which you think I should consider?

Question about restoring a Shield to original factory settings

I have an original 2015 500gb Shield that recently started having issues. The device would randomly turn off using various apps. I wasn't sure if maybe the hard drive was going bad? I tried to wipe the device and restore to original factory setting. During the restore process it stops and says "bad command:" and I'm unable to restore the device. Anybody have any idea's? I was going to just go pickup another Shield unless I'm able to salvage the old device.

Does volume control with Google Home work for you?

My Vizio TV is Chromecast-enabled. It is connected to a Nvidia Shield Android TV, which is also Chromecast-capable.

I can use the Google Home to raise, lower, mute, and unmute the volume of my Vizio TV.

Unfortunately, volume controls don't work on my Nvidia Shield Android TV. Occasionally, I can get the Google Home to mute or unmute the Shield TV. It's not a consistent experience, however.

To add to the confusion, I can use the Google Home to turn the Shield TV on or off. But I can't do the same for the Vizio TV.

If you have an Android TV streaming box or built-in TV, can you use the Google Home to control its volume?

I'm trying to figure out if this is a problem unique to the Shield TV, or if its a problem with Android TV in general.
