So I run an Nvidia Shield and reckon it’s awesome apart from the generic question around app availability. Our local freeview (Australia) free to air providers provide regular updates to phone and tablet devices but also apps for specific Android TV integrated systems like Sony Bravia. But they don’t make them available to generic box streams like the Nvidia shield.

Does anyone understand why, and is it possible to sideload these apps which are obviously designed for the couch experience. Why wouldn’t they just release their apps for all android tv platforms like they do for phone and tablets?

i recently got a philips smart tv (2017 model), and turning down brightness does not seem to affect the brightness of the ui, so opening youtube and such is almost blinding me at night.

With Android Oreo, Android has a better "understanding" of multiple displays. This includes Chromecast displays as far as I know. In what ways do you think this could be used for Android TV?

Could we have multiple rooms watching the same synced videos via chromecast?

Could we have multiple screen multiplayer (instead of splitscreen) using chromecast (or maybe future Android TVs with multiple outputs?)

Hi I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the improvements or fixes or what bugs are still on the Nexus Player currently I'm on 7.1.2 Beta still I'm rooted and unlocked I have side load launcher is it worth it to upgrade to 8.0 or wait till 8.1? Is side loading still a thing has some of the Bluetooth issues been fixed? Or the mouse icon showing up when its not spouse to thanks

I just upgraded my Nexus Player from Nougat to Oreo, and holding down the circle button no longer brings up the list of running apps, allowing me to shut them down. I can't find out where this functionality has gone, other than going into the settings, finding the app, and then closing it. Anyone know?

Hi. Is there any possible way to pair the Mi Box remote to control the TV itself? I'm talking about on/off and volume functions of the TV, not of the Xiaomi Mi Box.

I use Live Channels (with TVirl) to watch my TV.

For the first week I had my Shield, if I turned off (put to sleep) my Shield at night, when I turned it back on in the morning, it would load up and start playing whatever channel I was watching when I went to sleep.

Now, when I turn it on in the morning, it doesn't start playing whatever channel I was on. Is forced me to either change the channel or restart the app before it begins playing. It's a minor inconvenience, but it worked well before. Why doesn't it work anymore?

Guys, the Popcorn Time has been crashing on my Android TV. I tried downloading it from Aptoide TV and even from the official .sh website The Arm Version is crashing and the x86 version does not install. Can anyone help? And btw what apps do you use to watch TV shows and movies that are not on Netflix?

I was was wondering how do the Mi Box compare to the new Fire TV Stick spec wise, because obviously the new Fire Stick hasn't released yet. Their both $70 and was wondering which one will give me the most bang for my buck.

I am using a USB mic as an audio in source when making voice searches/commands, but my Shield TV is now trying to send audio to the mic as well (instead of over HDMI). How can I use the mic for audio in, without changing the audio out?

Ever since I got the Mi Box, I had issues with the remote not connecting. First couple times, I was able to re-connect using the common methods found around the internet. But since the last time, it just won't connect anymore. I have unpaired and tried to pair again, but this time nothing comes on. Even when I reset the box, there is no setup for the remote. It's almost like it is broken? This is in my kids room, and I know it's been dropped couple times or whatever, but even so, is there a good chance that it is actually broken? Any way to confirm?

I am using Flirc to get around it, but the only thing with that is I cannot turn the box on when it goes to sleep. Can turn off, but not matter what it does not come back on. Would have to unplug. I even set the box to not go to sleep but it eventually does.I have tried all kinds of remote settings but wake just don't seem to work.

Any other ways I have not come across in pairing the remote? Or how to get the box to wake up using Flirc?

My old setup was a 10yr old 1080p set (52XBR4) to which I used in tandem with a Nexus Player for streaming and Chromecasting purposes.

I recently upgraded to a new 4K set (65x900E) with AndroidTV. I never really gave it much thought and continued to use the Nexus Player for Chromecasting (specifically NBA League Pass). Last night for the heck of it I decided cast League Pass to the 65x900E.

Wow what a difference. Much better framerate and sharper detail on the Chromecasting through the TV instead of the Nexus Player.

Can someone tell me as to WHY this makes a difference??

I figure the TV is upconverting the 1080p signal either from the Nexus Player cast or the internal casting. So is it because the Nexus Player is just older technology and the TV is capable of outputting a much higher quality stream?

(I also used the same video profile for both sources on the TV. So its using the same feature set on both signals)

Is this even possible? I only found a PS1 emulator. I've been planning to buy 2 BT gamepads to play PS2 games but if there is no stable PS2 emulator I may only buy one.

Hi all, I've an international League Pass from the NBA and I'm trying to watch games on my Android TV (Shield TV Pro) in the USA. I've a VPN for my international location, but I'm unable to login into the NBA TV Android TV app. It works on my phone and Windows tv with VPN on. Anyone have success logging into an international League pass account on an Android TV?

Also I'm unable to Chromecast a working live stream from my phone or laptop onto my Android TV. It shows loading for 5 seconds and then exits. Anybody also able to Chromecast successfully for an international NBA League pass?
