I'm looking to toss this Chinese knock off M8 and get an authentic android box. I'm new to this stuff so forgive me if I messed something up.

Latest Plex for Android TV Beta Release Log and Testing Results

Release notes:

New with respect to previous beta:

  • Display IP address on network logging preference.
  • [Android TV] New clocks showing current and completion time on video player controls. (#5445)

Fixes with respect to previous beta:

  • [Android TV] Seek and skip actions during playback could not work as expected under certain circumstances.

The new clock times are pretty neat (basically tells you when your current video will finish)

But its the seek/skip actions that have me really excited. My results, testing on a shield:

  • 10s skip back is quite reliable, seems to be working exactly as intended
  • skipping back or forward using left or right on the dpad no longer brings up the OSD, allowing you to input multiple skips back or forward using the left/right dpad inputs without being interrupted by the OSD

Shield, Plex, Harmony remotes, seeking and skipping

I have my Harmony Hub connected to my Shield via Bluetooth, using the Nexus Player workaround.

One thing that bugs me is that the only way to control playback in Plex is to use the on-screen buttons. There's no way to even map the hardware skip/ff buttons to a function.

Would pairing my Shield to the Harmony via IR allow me to use the hardware skip/ff buttons?

Xiaomi Box Remote loses connection constantly

My xiaomi box remote (brand new from Walmart) constantly loses it's connection. I tried new batteries, updating the mi box's OS. Any other ideas?

*** Update **** A factory reset did not help. I returned the unit to Walmart and exchanged it for a brand new Mi Box. Unfortunately, it had the same problem.

To rehash the issue. Not only does the remote disconnects frequently (requiring a resync), the bluetooth range appears to be quite limited. Around ~15 feet in my case. Past 15 feet, guarantee disconnect. While I agree 2.4 ghz interference could be an issue, none of my other Bluetooth devices have any issues. For example, if I plug in the new fire tv with voice stick, I have no issues with the fire tv remote.

As a test, I attempted to pair the fire tv remote to the mi box. No luck. I am unable to set the fire remote to a discovery mode. I tried holding the home button for 5-10 secs, the play/pause button for 5-10 secs. If the fire tv remote would have paired, my hope is to see if the Bluetooth disconnects would have be resolved.

I'll keep it around for a week in hopes there will be a software update, but if asked if asked my opinion for the Xiaomi Box, it's a no. I would not recommend the mi box at this time.

Mi Box Volume control in Netflix

Hey,

I've had my Mi Box for about a week now and so far it has been an overall pretty good experience. I'm having a weird issue with the Netflix app though, where the remote won't control the volume. I hit the volume up or down button and get the normal volume pop up, but the volume doesn't actually change. ie. it will be "muted" but still playing at full volume...anyone else run into this and have a fix?

The ultimate Android TV remote?

I've been searching for the perfect remote that has media buttons(play/pause and rewind/forward), voice search, volume and it would be really exceptional if it also had a headphone port. I feel like these are pretty basic functions and there are remotes that have some of these but not all. Anyone come across the perfect solution? Running an Nvidia Shield so wifi-direct is an option.

New MiBox - Kodi - Live Streaming Stuttering

I have Fiber, so I know it's not my internet. I've used a few applications to live stream some sports tonight; applications specifically in Kodi.

IPTV Provider (2)

Free App (uses reddit links)

(1) Provider is fairly well, I don't see stuttering using VLC Streams on PC. Stutters on MiBox

(2) Stutters only Mi Box

(3) Stutters only on MiBox

Is their something the Mibox? or Something with Kodi on MiBox? Streams on Android Apps work fine, with no stutters. anyone else have these issues.

I've also tried .m3u play lists outside of Kodi. Stutters seem to be not as often, but still verry noticeable.

EDIT

I have two MiBoxes. I did a speed test on both. MiBox1 (closests to the modem) only gets 30 mbps; while the second one(few rooms over into the garage) gets 80/90 mbps. That's really weird.

Mi Box problems

Anyone else finding their Mi Box to be super buggy? Four or five times now it's frozen or locked up in one way or another and the only way I could fix it was to unplug the power cord. Just now it did it after I had been watching shows in Plex for about an hour. The entire screen turned a lovely shade of blue. (Maybe Android TV is taking a page from Windows with its blue screen of death?) It sounded like it was still responding to key presses from the remote, although I couldn't see anything since the screen just stayed blue.

Any time I've gone to unplug the power cord when it craps out, the Mi Box feels really hot, so maybe the problem is due to overheating?

The other big flaw I see is that video shows a lot of jerkiness/judder. I've noticed this a lot on various shows in both Hulu and Plex (streaming via Plex channels), maybe other apps as well. I'm not sure if the Mi Box is dropping frames or if maybe the apps in question are requesting 24p versions of these shows but then outputting them at 60p. I have the box set to output at 1080p60. I did try setting it to 1080p24 but that only made the problem worse (despite the fact that my TV can natively display 24p material and I was streaming shows from Hulu that I know they offer in 24p).

I'm wondering if anyone else is seeing similar problems. Needless to say, I'll be returning this particular unit. Not sure if I'll bother replacing it with another or not.

PS Vue quick impressions. Nexus player.

Everything with this app seems to be pretty great. One major issue. When something is playing the guide and menus are extremely laggy. I know this is a grand new app so I'm sure it will improve but it's pretty laggy and really frustrating. Anyone else experiencing this?

Mi Box - for H264 1080p content

Hi guys, so I'm considering purchasing a Mi Box for its cheap price. My main use is streaming 1080p h264 content from my Plex server, hoping for Direct Playing all of it (that means I also need the box to support Hebrew subtitles).

So I'm asking the owners of Mi Boxes around here - will it fit my needs perfectly?

question about non-Android TV apps on an Android TV box

I am about to pickup some Mi boxes (since I don't need 4k/gaming and a much higher price tag that comes with Shields), but just need decent Kodi for local content only and Netflix and probably a few others once I have the boxes.

If I wanted to use some non-Android TV apps (sideloaded), do you require a mouse to use them or does the d-pad on Mi box remote work fine? What other issues do sideloaded apps have on Android TV OS?

Can anyone explain who has experience? I am in Canada and before I have a friend buy them at Walmart and ship them to me, would like to know...

Thanks.

Lags when playback 60fps videos on Youtube(Xiaomi Mi Box MDZ-16-AB)

Hello guys.

Do any of you experiencing lags when playing back videos with 720p60 or 1080p60 on Youtube? The video would stutter and the sounds stutter every 5-10 seconds.

After a lot of testing. I found out that this only happens when Mi Box is suspended and resumed.

To fix the lag i have to reboot the device. Then everything will run smoothly with both 720p60 and 1080p60 on Youtube. But if the Mi Box goes to sleep then everything will lag again.

What I found out so far:

  • This only happens to Youtube (So far)
  • Playback with 720p60 or 1080p60 on Plex or Twitch runs perfectly fine even after sleep.
  • Force closing Youtube and open it again will not help. Lagging still persist and reboot must be done to fix the lag.

I tried to contact Xiaomi from mi.com but did not get any clear answer.

The ask me to factory reset. Which I tried and replied to them that it does not help.

Then they asked me where i bought this Mi Box from. I dont know how that information will help me resolving my issue.
