Gaming, Nvidia Shield and iPhone

Hey, I have been googling and looking at Youtube videos for a couple of days now trying to find a good solution to my needs and I have come up more confused than I started. Maybe you can help me? Basically this is my situation:

I haven't had a TV in years and just got a Roku integrated Sharp 1080p 32" deal. I'm liking it so far and it takes care of me for most of my casual entertainment needs. All except one; I'd like to start playing games again.

It's been years since I played games seriously but I'd like to play some casual indie games and occasionally a Fallout or Portal style RPG/Puzzle game. This is where things get tricky. I switched from Android to iPhone a year ago (for boring reasons) and so I figured maybe the new AppleTV would be a good way to go for a streamer/casual game box, but the selection of games there is truly awful. And the limitations on app size seems like it will keep decent games away from the platform for a while.

I was pretty impressed with the Nvidia shield and it looks like you can play some decent games on it (Borderlands, Half Life 2, Final Fantasy) but I have an iPhone and Macbook Pro and I am wondering if going across environments is going to be a huge pain in the ass.

Am I missing something? I feel like an old man confused by the world and shaking my fist at a cloud. Please help.

Remote Control fro Android tv boxes

I ended up getting a Beelink Mini MXIII Amlogic S905 box and while it seems to work great with everything so far (primarily Kodi, Netflix & Youtube), I can't get the included remote to work so we're using the LG TV remote via HDMI CEC for now.

I have an Microsoft MCE remote from years ago that we've been using with Kodi on Linux but I cannot seem to find Android drivers for it.

Could I please get some recommendations for a TV style remote (not one of those mini-keyboards that look like a gaming control) that has the colour buttons and keys can be custom remapped in both Android and Kodi?

Thanks in advance!

PuppetMaster Puppets (channels)

I've been using PuppetMaster for a few weeks now and absolutely love it. It has the ability to import Puppets (what the App calls channels) from github using an ID number. I've search for a listing of github IDs for this app with no luck. Is anyone aware of such a listing?

New user need advice

Hey everybody, so my old man loves watching movies. He doesn't care about live tv or even tv shows, just movies. Would the best thing for me to set him up would be to get an nvidia shield, and hook up popcorn time with it? He's already seen all the movies on netflix lol.

Any feedback and suggestions are welcome.

Thanks all!

Sony z5 suddenly won't cast screen anymore to Sony android tv.

I've tried restarting and power cycling everything, but when I hit my TV's name under screen cast it flashes "connecting" for a split second then stops. I tried doing cast screen from within chrome in a video player and still nothing. Is there any thing else I'm missing?

EDIT: Miracast has started working again, the google cast still just disconnects as soon as I tap it on however. If I find the cause I'll update this post for record purposes.

Which streaming device to buy

I want nearly the same experience I'd have browsing my pc in my living room.

I would like to play a few games on tv that are playable with controllers as well as local multiplayer games for more fun.

I also want to be able to stream my animes/drams on tv as well so I need something like desktop streaming/google so I can search those.

So I don't want to plug an HDMI from my pc to my tv because I want to have some USB plugs near my TV for controllers.

I think steam link can leave big picture mode and enter a google search quite easily? I also thought about razer forge tv/nvidia shield.

Any app to remap USB remote buttons?

So I didn't order the remote for my Shield TV and I just connected my Ortek VRC-1100 USB remote from my old HTPC to the Shield and it surprisingly worked almost perfectly.

But some buttons don't work or have the wrong mapping, so I was looking for an app which can remap those buttons, do you know any?

For those of us wanting HBO Go in DD 5.1, please submit a request (url included):

https://help.hbogo.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

You'll have to be already registered with HBO Go and enter your ID. I submitted a request asking them to implement 5.1 DD on Android TV.

Hopefully if enough of us are active HBO Go users, they'll listen and update ASAP!

Looking at get first android tv device

It seems the only Android TV device officially supported in Australia was the Nexus Player. Even if the Shield was supported here it's a bit out of my price range anyway.

Do you think there's any likelihood of a Nexus Player refresh happening in the short term? Or should I just cough up the horribly inflated prices on ebay since it was discontinued?

I was also thinking of the Xiaomi Mi Box, but I seriously doubt it will be launched in Australia anyway.

Netflix app just crashes when running in foreground... ?

Watching Youtube, Plex, whatever else and a notification pops up telling me that "Unfortunately the Netflix app has stopped". (I'm using the Nvidia Shield Pro box)

Anyone else experiencing this?

I've even used the "Exit Netflix" option to what I would have thought stopped the app instead of leaving it running, but sure enough I keep seeing the message every so often.

Meanwhile, never had the Netflix app crash while actually watching Netflix. :|

Has any TV based on Android TV been updated to Marshmallow?

I own a Sony Android TV which was released in 2016 and its still on Lollipop. I saw a few articles in Jan stating that Marshmallow will be released to 2015 Sony TVs. Considering this its my assumption that 2016 TVs will definitely get the update.

Also now that Android Nougat is getting released with features specifically built to enhance TV experience I was wondering if there is any chance Sony TVs will get this update. Is Sony planning to skip Marshmallow and directly release Nougat considering OEMs have had early access to Nougat.

Philips Android TVs any good?

I'm thinking of buying a Philips 32PFS6401, priced £349.99 in Argos. I have a Bravia Android TV in my Living Room, but for the bedroom I have limited space and prefer not to bother with external boxes if I can help it. This appears to be the only 32" that runs Android TV.

There don't seem to be any reviews for this model. I'd be happy if the TV performs reasonably (the Bravia has terrible performance for most games), enough to run the PSP emulator with decent settings, for example.

It's a real shame these TVs aren't upgradeable in terms of CPU, GPU and memory. It would be amazing to just buy a new SoC every year or something.
