Hi, Any recommendations for an Android TV Box that I can take with me travelling. I tend to fill up a USB hard drive with movies and tv shows because I can't always rely on great WiFi and I've been using a really old WDTV box but it's about to die I think. Thanks

I've recently started using Nova Video Player instead of Kodi because of how simple and native it is.

However, I haven't seen much discussion on what video players are used by Android TV users. So, what's your video player of choice?

In Los Angeles it is horrible when we have an emergency. I had the service on all day and the quakes happen and cant even get one channel. I hope they fix this especially in any type of emergency in your city.

Edit Ok getting buffering then blank circle in middle screen. Maybe they should get more bandwidth in a certain area during emergency situations.

Edit 2: OK ABC7 is coming in. BTW the internet is fine while I was trying to get a local channel I was also looking at Live CNN coverage.

I have a Philips ATV on Oreo. Tested Aerial Dream as a screensaver and it works good when using the ATV. It activates after no use in X minutes. But when using other sources, ie my computer through HDMI, it activates even when the computer is in use or a movie playing. Anybody know why? A bug?

I just picked one up and I'm wondering what app is the best for usb media? I seem to have some issues here and there with buffering.

I installed mx player pro and found codecs so I'm wondering if that is the best app.

Did they solve the issue where you can't cast to the device if it was in sleep mode?

So iv been experimenting with a couple of things lately in regards to operating systems and it just occurred to me that Chrome OS (cloud ready) can literally run on just about anything. I have tried the OS on some really of pcs and laptops and let me just say I was shocked by its performance. So getting to the point; has any attempted to install Chrome OS on an android box? if so how was it? And if you did pull it off how did you do it?

I've recently been doing some research about some different ATV boxes, and would like a little advice.

I'm trying to decide between the Mi Box S and the Shield.

I know both are 4K capable, but that doesn't matter for me at the moment, I'll only be streaming in 1080p, still clear enough for me haha. I will be using the box for YouTube, YouTube TV, Netflix, Hulu, and some Spotify streaming.

My big question is, how is the performance on the Mi Box S? I want the smoothest experience I can possibly have. I'm not going to be doing any gaming on it, just streaming. Is it worth it to spend about 3 times more on the Shield? Or will my usage be fine for the Mi Box S.

I also have read things about certain boxes being Google certified, and some not working with Netflix, etc. Are either of those boxes effected by this?

For my usage, is there any other boxes I should be looking at? I've seen something about a Jetstream box sold at Walmart, is that any good? My biggest priority is just being able to have a smooth experience for YouTube TV live streaming, Netflix, etc. in 1080P without having a lag or buffer fest.

I've been used the phone hook up through usb-c/hdmi into the TV but some apps like Plex are optimized to touch screen, making the experience with the keyboard awful.

So I love using my Google Home to turn off the TV and change the volume etc. but around 2 months into owning the tv it seems that the ability to turn on the Tv with the google home/assistant has stopped working.

It seems to work if the Tv has recently just been turned off (as if theres a 15min cool off or something), but if it's been off for a while, you have to use the remote. This means when asking the google home to play music via Spotify, it can't find the device and fails to launch.

Anyone know what's going on here and if there is some 15 minute standby before being fully switched off - is there a way to disable it?

I have a shield TV on the main TV. But looking for a cheaper option for the secondary living room and my monitor. Just the basics are needed. TTV, YouTube, Netflix. No need for Kodi as long as I can get Titanium TV. Google assistant/Home is a plus.

So our current setup is a chromecast gen 2 connected to a dumb TV. But come August we are moving to a new place and we are looking for an upgrade. The TV we have is small 32". We want to upgrade to a bigger one, 4k UHD. I have my eye on the Mi Box S for a while since it is an affordable chromecast ultra with more features. For media consumption we usually just cast something from our phones or PC. Hence why we were looking at Android TV platform as an option since casting is covered.

So the question is should we just pick up a TV with Android or buy the dedicated Mi Box?

fyi: We are looking at some options from TCL for the TV. Open to suggestions from other brands.

AFAIK some Android TVs got Airplay 2 support. Are you aware of anyone who managed to port it to other TVs or Shield?

Looking into getting something really nice that won't have much lag and be able to play 4k off kodi // plex effortlessly and have a lot of performance. The shield is a no brainer, the fire stick 4k ? Mi box s, jetstream , mecool km3 or km9? Any particular processors to look for ? Something with RK3399 or S922X I heard is nice but not sure if it runs that if it's automatically a good device or not or what your guys' thoughts are on the best devices out there

Simply wanting a replacement remote (even if its a usb based 2.4ghz remote)

I found that my mi box has a wake issue and wont turn on via the remote, so i need a 3rd party remote to fix this issue (hopefully)

Any ideas?
