Access Android Tv box remotely

Is there a simple or cheap way to control Android Tv when I'm not at home? I work away and have found that the although she can't really use it my mother enjoys a lot of the content the box provides. If I could make sure she's got something to watch when she's not able to get out that'd be great.

AndroidTV for Vacation Rentals

Curious if anyone has experience, knows of a solution to utilize AndroidTV for a Vacation Rental.

Looking into turning my own home into a rental and a bit concerned about simply leaving a ShieldTV box out; I've got a Sony Bravia as well but so far as I can tell both solutions seem to have shortcoming(s) in hospitality. In particular it seems a guest mode with extremely limited access would be ideal - blocking the play store in particular. In theory a launcher that put's the user into Live Channels

Ideal solution would be a launcher + access mode that restricts the guest to the following

+Live Channels or YouTubeTV

+Netflix

+Chromecast functionality

Well aware there's a bunch of things I need to do the home network side of things as well to keep things (relatively) locked down to boot.

Philo Appears To Have Live Channels Integration Now

Philo now shows as a channel source. I had to restart live channels after setup but now all 44 channels are showing alongside my OTA channels!

Edit: epg and audio don't seem to be working though and the stream quality is really bad...

Audio loudness all over the place between different apps.

Often when I play a song on Spotify the neighbours cat gets a bowel movement because the volume of my TV is so g*ddamn LOUD.

The loudness level on the various apps seems to differ greatly, and it is most notable between Spotify and YouTube but not limited to. Often I find myself scuffling to get to the remote ASAP, and I always live in fear when I start random media.

Is there a way to normalize the volume between apps (without having to normalize *all* the audio on the AV-receiver thus losing dynamic range)?

I'm using a Shield by the way.

Harmony YouTube closed captions

I've got a Shield 2015 & a Harmony Elite remote and have been slowly setting up shortcuts for various common actions.

One I'm at a bit of a loss with now is how to toggle closed captions on YouTube (or at least open the selection dialog). I'm starting to think it's not possible with a single command, but figured it was worth asking here if anyone else had figured it out!

New Phillips Android TV doing my head in

About a week ago I got a free Philips Android TV ( this model ) and I thought it was going to be a great TV. However since I have set it up, I have had nothing but trouble with it. I keep getting a message saying that it is running out of storage, even though I haven't downloaded anything. The only apps that are on there are Netflix and Vudu, which were pre-loaded. I have also added a 30 GB SanDisk usb drive and for some reason the TV seems to forget that it is there. The USB drive is format to work on the tv. When the stoarage is low messages start popping up, my TV turns off. The message pops up and then it goes to a black screen for a minute and then the word Android will pop up on my screen for a few minutes before it returns me to the home screen. Resetting the tv seems to fix everything for a few hours but I don't want to reset it all the time. I really don't know what is wrong or where to even start looking. If anyone has any ideas or fixes, I would greatly appreciate it.

Toast Notification with image?

I’m looking into developing a way to push notifications to my android tv. I want to find out if it’s physically possible to push a notification to appear over the top of a hdmi input.

E.g. the doorbell rings, I will have an app that monitors this and then grab an image of who’s at the door and then push it to the tv in the corner with a notification.

Before a waste vasts amount of time digging into the ring api, I want to know if this is possible :)

Would really appreciate anyone else’s input.

I’ve got a Sony KD-55XF8096

BBC iPlayer Removed from Android TV

Hi guys, I hope I'm posting this to the right place!

I recently updated my Sony TV to Android 8.0.0 and it seems to have removed BBC iPlayer.

It isn't even on the Google Play Store!

Has anyone else noticed this? I know I can still cast it from my phone but I reckon I'll miss out on that 4K greatness :(

How important is a keyboard to the AndroidTV system !?

I have just read this channel's info aka rules aka guide and understand now why my Android Media Player is not an AndroidTV device - thanks :D

My Android app "Seemiyah" is like a "screensaver in the cloud" soultion and dedicatd to smartphones.
So now i asked myself how to port it to AndroidTV systems.

My problem: some of my screensaver templates can be customized by the user.
In the app settings for example you can set up some own text to appear on the screensaver or add your location so that a weather screensaver can show the current weather.

But for all of this you need a keyboard.

Now i asked myself if this workflow is a hurdle or if most AndroidTV users also have a keyboard connected to their AndroidTV devices. Is Text entry even ok for most of you?

Thanks in advance for your time and support!

Oreo Update on Sony X900F - Still no HDR through native youtube app

Hi there,

Wanted to see if others had experience with the Oreo update and HDR. When I watch a 4k HDR movie (Blade Runner 2049) through the native google play or youtube apps, the HDR badge does not appear. However, when I enable "stats for nerds" via the youtube app, it reports the color space as Bt 2020. This should be HDR right?

If I cast the content via the youtube app on my phone or desktop, the HDR badge DOES appear, so this workaround appears to still work.

Anyone else have a different experience?

VLC network password save on Oreo?

So my Sony KD-55XE8505 updated to Oreo and it's all good. However, since then the VLC app asks me for a password when I try to access an SMB share on my local network. This happens each time I shut the TV and turn it on again. Previously it was only necessery after a complete restart of the TV. Anybody with a similar problem and a hint? Some kind of half-sleep mode setting?
