No New Android TV Device Announced By Google Today, What Are The Alternatives?

I was hoping Google would announce a new Android TV device to succeed the Nexus Player. They didn't, sadly.

So what should I upgrade to? I appreciate stock Android experiences, and mostly am using my Android TV for watching videos through YouTube, Netflix, and Kodi. Thanks!

Can I install Chromecast or Android TV mirroring software on my Android LeTV?

I have a 55" LeTV (by LeEco, a Chinese company) in my room and it's running Android. Here's the catch about my question: it doesn't have Google Play and doesn't run any Google based software because Play Services can't be installed on the device. It's basically a big Android phone. So, the problem is that I can't stream anything from my phone or computer because it doesn't have any casting software (other than the really shitty software that's preinstalled).

Is there any way I can cast to my TV or convert it somehow (yeak ik it sounds preposterous) to a normal Android TV with all the necessary software?

[Troubleshoot] Android Remote app not connecting to Android Tv,Mi Box 3, nVidia Shield

Mi Box 3 stopped connecting to android remote app on phone out of blue. I found the fix searching from various thread and thought of listing down, things to do before factory reset. I had issue with connecting the remote and either of the following step help me get back the connection

Here is list of thing to try and connect after each step

  1. Cast YouTube video from any phone. Probably Cast service wakes up sleeping remote service 😃
  2. Clear cache/Data of Android Remote app
  3. Restart your phone
  4. Restart Andoird Tv box
  5. Android Tv : Setting -> Apps -> Android Tv Remote service - Clear Data
  6. Android Tv: Setting -> Apps -> Bluetooth/BluetoothRemote - Clear Data
  7. Change your WiFi security from WPA2 to WPA
  8. Change your WiFi operating frequency from 5GHz to 2.4GHz

Point no 5 is strange but last time this was the culprit. Hope it helps.

Feel feel to add more way to get the remote back.

Here I found point no 5 which helped me just before I was going to factory reset.

Anyone know how to get the live channels DVR to actually start recording when the show starts?

I've got a mi box on official Oreo. I have a jump drive plugged in and app data migrated to it. I have a HDhomerun and the beta tuner channel source activated in live channels.

Everything works great except that the recordings frequently are missing the first 10-15 minutes. It's like the device doesn't wake up right away to record.

I have noticed that if I am using the device in another app or something, it will not have this issue.

Help?

Open specific app when powering Sony TV

I just switched to YouTube TV and would like my Sony TV to auto launch the app when started. This will make it easier on my wife. There used to be an app boot on launch that is no longer on play store. Anyone know if this can be done? Thanks!

Should I update my Mi box 3?

I have read many people have had problems with their Mi boxes after updating to 8.0. As I just bought my device it is running on android 6, I wondered whether I should upgrade it to 8.0? My setup is rather simple: older Samsung plasma TV, BT speakers, and dual-band wifi network.

Is it also possible to downgrade if I encounter many fatal errors? Thanks

Portable Media Player Solution?

Hi all, thank you in advance fro your help!

I'm not sure if an Android Box would fit my needs, or perhaps something else altogether, so I appreciate you direction you might be able to give me. Basically what I am looking for is a small device that is capable of playing files video files from a USB Flash Drive (I don't need streaming). Things are the things that are required for my intended use:

- H264, H265, AC3 & DTS Support

-Supports multiple file types & extensions, such as MPG, VOB, MKV, AVI, M2TS, and MP4

-Uses a remote control to navigate the UI

-Either the firmware or an app that can be used in the OS that can autoplay files ( a large part of my intention is to autoplay music performance clips in a particular folder)

-Has HDMI output

-Can do all of the above without needing to be connected to WiFi, or streaming

-Can support Flash Drives of at least 128GB (supporting 128GB SDXC cards would be a huge plus)

-Can support files larger than 4GB (something like 30GB if necessary)

So, is there an Android box that can fit my needs? I imagine I'd be needing a media player from the App Store. I thought I had read that MX Player has discontinued DTS support, so not sure if this is an issue. Otherwise, is there another type of device that might fit my needs better?

Thanks in advance!

MiBox 3 4k having various issues (8-10 months old)

So back in august i had updated my MiBox to the android 8 release via OTA, and have been keeping an eye on updates since then, bugs, new builds, ect. I updated to the latest build when it came out, and had no issues, didnt come across any devastating bugs, until recently, in this past week, my MiBox decided it would go to sleep after being inactive, and when i come home from work, turn on my TV, and the MiBox is stuck in sleep, completely frozen. No response when buttons on the remote are pressed, ect. So, hard reset by unplugging it, and plugging it back in. This worked for the 4 times i had to do it, then it decided it would either freeze on the MiBox Boot Logo, or after it fully boots, and just before it reaches the home screen. So from there, i did a factory reset via recovery, and that lasted maybe 12 hours. Then it went back to freezing on boot up. Then i came across this post, and followed the instructions to downgrade. I downgraded it successfully, but when you try to install the linked "stable" build, it fails to verify the signature and fails to install. So, at this point i decided to stay on the downgraded build i just installed and see how it responds. Not even 30 minutes in, the home screen goes black, no response from remote. Damn thing is frozen again. So i factory reset, and it works, but during the "setup via phone" screens, it will freeze, error out, and make me start over. After fiddling with this for 45 minutes, i finally get back to the home screen and OTA back to the latest build, thinking maybe the last OTA was corrupted some how, and now we're back to the freezing on boot again. Is my MiBox done for, or is Xiaomi just incompetent?

Edit: I've also tried installing the latest build via Recovery off of a USB, and it refuses to update that way.

Edit 2: I figured out what the problem was. When I download the file for the stable build, and renamed it to "update.zip" and replaced the zip file for build 2176 on the thumb drive, the MiBox was reading the file as "update.zip.zip." So, what I've done is edited "xiaomi_update" as follows;

Original line; --update_package=/udisk/update.zip

My edited line; --update_package=/udisk/update.zip.zip

This fixed it and let it update to build 2179

Why is there such little choice in the Android TV devices?

I want to buy a not too expensive TV box. I don’t need 4k or hdr support, I only want true Android TV os and bluetooth support. But it seems I have literally only one choice, the Mi Box. And I’ve heard bad things about its reliability on this sub. Why is it, with all the popularity Android has, that the choice between TV boxes is so very poor?

HELP! I have a different and odd Android TV device and want to remove Leanback launcher!

Hi all,

As the title says, I have a Freebox Mini 4k, which is an Android TV running version 7.1.1. It has Leanback Launcher installed as the default and I am looking to replace it.

Now I've read all the posts and I understand that I need to use Minimal ADB and Fastboot with USB Debugging enabled. All of which I understand and have done, the only issue is I can't seem to connect this darn box to my PC. It only has an HDMI slot and 2 USB slots (see here and here for photos) , which means I'm not quite sure how to connect. I've already tried a USB to USB cable and that didn't work. Any suggestions?

Thanks a bunch!

EDIT 1: Managed to connect via WiFi debugging, except when inputting the command "pm hide com.google.android.leanbacklauncher" it comes up with "Error: java.lang.SecurityException: Neither user 2000 nor current process has android.permission.MANAGE_USERS. "
