This might seem crazy but I'm pretty sure my TV caused the fire department to show up this morning

I woke up this morning to a SUPER loud alarm coming from my TV. Not sure if it was coming from the speakers I have connected or from the TV itself, but when I hit mute on the TV remote it stopped the alarm. The alarm was like a beeping emergency sound. So then just like 2 minutes after that a fire truck came into the parking lot with its sirens blasting and everything, but it just drove around in circles for a bit and then left. I think they came because of that alarm going off.

The TV is a sony XBR-65X900E. I did some searching and it looks like there's other people who had a similar thing happen, but it seems to be samsung phones that are doing it to them.

There's a bunch of people here mentioning it: https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Galaxy-S8-Questions-and-Answers/Smoke-detector-like-beeping-from-phone/td-p/115752

Has anyone else experienced the alarm like that or know about it?

Live Channels - fixing logos and EPG?

I have an Australian Vodafone TV Android box, made by Technicolor. It runs Android 7, and has a tuner inside.

Live Channels works well, but the channels have no logos. Is it possible to add those somehow?

The EPG is delivered over the air, rather than via the internet. Australian TV only broadcasts the EPG per multiplex, so you never get a full view of the EPG without manually tuning into each major channel. Is there a tweak to download the EPG over the internet?

Is it possible to get additional channels in the app? I've side loaded Mobdro, but am a bit disappointed that this doesn't support live channels.

PSA: NordVPN app now supports AndroidTV

Hey guys, I just updated the NordVPN app on my phone and noticed that the changelog mentions that it now works on AndroidTV. I'm pretty stoked about it since none of the VPN services I've used have ever worked on AndroidTV. I'm interested to go home and check how well it works.

Mi Box with AV Port?

I recently ordered a Mi Box so that I could use Android TV on a CRT TV, and various sites/images made me assume that the box would have an AV port. The box arrived today and my version seems to have just an Audio port there.

Searching online seems to indicate boxes do exist with the AV port, but are those somehow obtainable in the US? Preferably with a return policy/free shipping too since that was possible with mine as I purchased it from Walmart.

Thank you in advance for any responses!

Can't use Netflix from laptop

I have a new Sony TV with Chromecast built it. I am signed into my account and same wireless network I use at home. I can use Chromecast fine from Chrome and from my phone Netflix app. But when I am on my laptop and browsing Netflix (which is my preferred method), and try to Chromecast: I do not have an option of casting to the TV. I can cast the Chrome tab I am on but that's not the same as natively casting Netflix.

I have tried tech support with Netflix, Sony and Google. They each say to call the other and none of them had any ideas whatsoever and frankly didn't really seem to understand the issue.

Any ideas on why I can't seem to cast from Netflix?

AirPlay for MiBox?

I know that AirPlay is a proprietary protocol for Apple, so I'm probably out of luck - but I was wondering if there was anyway to set up my MiBox so that I could mirror anything on my iPhone to my TV via side-loaded apps or official ones (preferably free, but I'd pay for one that was worth a damn).

Probably a crap-shoot, but I thought I'd ask!

*Edit* Thanks guys, I'll try out all these suggestions and let ya know what works the best for me!

Activating HBO Go Spectrum on AndroidTV

Just a useful tip for Spectrum cable subscribers (potentially others): Spectrum doesn't recognize AndroidTV as an approved device for some premium content apps, but I've noticed that you bypass by saying the device is an Amazon Fire TV or sometimes Roku and activating the app will work. Hope this helps, so you don't have to deal with wonky casting.

Newbie advice needed :)

Hi folks. I'm currently just using a firestick, and am looking to get something better. I just learned about Android tv boxes, and there's soooo many available, I need some advice.

My primary uses would be tv/movie streaming and certain games. For tv streaming, I currently use TerrariumTV on my firestick, and plan on staying with that.

As for games, I am not a hardcore gamer. But I would like to run some emulators (PS1, Dreamcast, etc). And my favorite game of all time which I REALLY want to be able to play is "Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee", which I played on the original Xbox and is now available for Android. I'm just learning about these boxes, and noticed that alot of the cheaper ones use an Amlogic cpu. But on the play store, the description for Oddworld says "PLEASE NOTE: Broadcom and Amlogic devices NOT SUPPORTED!", so I'm guessing I should avoid those.

What are some good boxes I should consider? I read that the Nvidia Shield is considered the best, but at $200 that's out of my price range. I'd like to stay in the $60 range. I saw one online called the Beelink GS1, which uses the Allwinner H6 (quad-core Cortex-A53 processor), and I can get one for around $65. Is that a good choice for my needs?

Thanks in advance!!!

About the Mi Box 4k and Harmony remotes with numbers

Hello there, I come to this sacred internet place to ask some legit questions.

Some context: my parents have a Mi Box which they use to watch TV from their native country I provide to them using TVirl (plus a custom .m3u) and they change channels using Google Live Channels, they have real problems changing channels with the D-pad on the Mi Remote, don't ask me why.

What I wanted to know is if someone has used (or knows if it's possible) to use a Harmony remote (...or has suggestions of other good remote options) with numbers (like for example the 350 or the Smart Control) to change channels in Live Channels, like a normal TV interface would do, for example if they want to go to the channel 37 they press the 3 button and then the 7.

Also would like to know if it's possible to configure any button like for example the coloured ones, or the "Watch TV" one to wake the Mi Box and open Live Channels automatically.

Thanks in advance.

Actual AndroidTV machine with IR or IR dongle

My parents are addicted to their Harmony remote and their bedroom Roku 2 finally just gave up on them. I'd love to get them on AndroidTV (they've got a 1st gen SHIELD in the living room) but IR capability is a requirement. Any boxes running legit AndroidTV have an IR port? I know some new ones have been popping up. Barring that, any IR dongles that people know actually work?

I suppose worst case I can get them a Roku Ultra, that'll work with IR, but that's a last resort.

[How To] Play Youtube HDR Video on Mi Box International with MM or Nougat firmware

Skip this paragraph if you only care about how to. I have been lurking on this sub for a few weeks now as I'm looking for an Android TV Box for my new Vizio M75 TV. I had a Mibox 3 Pro. It runs android, but the user experience is much better than many Android TVs to be honest, thanks to the powerful hardware and being rooted (so I did a lot of customization such as launcher). However, it does not have HDR, and the 4k 60hz support is fake. So I'm looking for an update. Mibox International should be able to fit my need but from what I read here it is full of bugs and lack of support. Last week I finally pulled the trigger thanks to google express's 25% off coupon and Walmart's return policy. Hopefully Oreo drops within the return window so I can test its full potential (or get disappointed by more bugs).

Back to the topic. I think a lot of you have already figured it out but having a thread might help others. I can confirm it also works on MM while I haven't seen anyone mentioned it.

The solution is Smart YouTube TV + a few tweakings. The latest Smart YouTube TV web wrapper app works almost perfectly on the MM 1901, I can play 4k 60fps HDR YouTube video without frameskip! It works even better than under those Nougat betas (tested 1028 and 1560), probably due to all the CPU cores are being used. You need to manually specify the HDR video quality. You will also notice the HDR mode of your TV won't automatically turn on therefore the color looks washed out. Here you can exploit a bug of Mibox -- it won't turn off HDR mode of your TV after watching an HDR video. The steps are:

1)* Turn on deep color mode in display settings.

  1. Play any HDR videos in whatever player such as Kodi or the stock one that can properly enable HDR.

  2. After the HDR mode of your TV is on, stop the dummy video you were playing, go to Smart YouTube TV. While anything SDR looks strange under HDR mode, the YouTube HDR videos play as it should be. No more washed out color.

*The reason for turning on deep color mode is because I find out if I don't turn it on, many HDR videos played on Mi Box will appear more green on my TV. I don't know why.

I compared watching the same HDR video directly on my TV through USB and on YouTube with Mi Box, they appear the same to me. Then again I'm not 100% sure as I may not be that sensitive to HDR or my TV may just suck. So please tell me your thought or your test result. And lastly, hope Oreo fix this and I don't have to exploit a bug for profit 😂

Next, I might try this trick on a cheap LeEco Super4 TV I got from their closing warehouse. It runs Android TV 6.0 without any possible future support. The hardware does not clearly mentioning the support of VP9.2 but when I tested Smart Youtube TV and manually select 4k hdr stream, it does play well, with a few frameskips. And of course the color is washed out. Only if I can find out how to manually turn on HDR mode...

Mi box 3 overheating

Hi, I have international version of Mi box 3 and I have constantly overheating problems... Mostly I watch only YouTube and IPTV through Kodi and after about one hour maybe a little bit more I always hear click and box freeze and then I need to unplug and wait to get cold because box burning.. I have to mention that this box I have about half year and this problem is here about 2 last months. I thought maybe VPN is a problem but then I tried without and it's the same. And I have to say that at the beginning box used to streaming for about 5-10 hours (all day) constantly and never had this issues, barely warm

Ps. I have the latest available marshmallow firmware version.. Maybe Oreo will fix that if ever comes out.. I run it at 1080p 60fps
