Google Home: "I'm sorry, but I can't play to Android TV"

Just got the Shield home and plugged up.

That is beyond disappointing. I've taught my wife and kids just to ask Google home for the show you want to watch. Now they have to find the remote, THEN ask?

Am I just misunderstanding the point of Android TV?

My Mi Box will frequently swtich from 4k @ 60hz to 420p when it wakes up from sleep. When I go into display settings only 3 resolutions are available (480p, 720p, 1080p) I have to do a reboot of the box to bring back all the other resolutions including 4k. This seems to be happening post oreo.

Anyone else facing similar issues?

Edit: so a working solution I found, not optimal but I enabled developer options and enabled the option to always keep the mi box awake. I also had to disable HDMI CEC on the MI Box otherwise my TV remote would sleep the mi box along with shutting off the speakers. Ideally I would like full HDMI CEC but no biggy, the MI Box just stays on all the time.

my netflix is having some problems and i would like to reinstall. as the app comes preinstall with mibox, i couldn't find a way to uninstall it.

Soon I will be replacing my direct tv dish with an antenna. what i would like to is get a tv tuner that will feed into the live channels app on a shield tv in the living room and a mibox in the bedroom.

From what I've read using Live Channels will get me free EPG data as well as time shifting ability. I do not need recording ability.

Is there an affordable tuner that I can buy to use for both boxes? Or maybe need 2? Thanks for your input.

What are my options and what is recommended?
How can I make sure a remote control would work on it before I buy it?

I'm using the Kodi from the Google Play store both boxes on oreo. Smb directory shairing used to work fine on my window 10 pc but just can't get it working now and though there must be others with this issue... linux smb does work but looking for a win10 solution..TIA

What were they thinking? Did no one ever test this thing? Its a $200 device and the remote is worse than everything else, ever. You can buy lots of cheap crap for $20 and they will have better remotes.

First of all the button (or lack thereof) is stupid. Then they spent all the moeny on the stupid touich bar which is useless.

It constantly loses connection, and it has horrendous input lag. I have never seen any other remote with this kind of unpredictability and lag.

Why are so many apps, which I had installed on my Sony Bravia TV, are not available (do not appear in Google app store) on Nvidia Shield? Like SPB TV, for example.

What is the difference between the two?

I have an older HDHomerun on a mostly wired network. I had DVR recording working about a year or two ago. I remember it involved a "Network Tuner" input source which now doesn't seem to exist anymore. I have the the HDHomerun App as my source now. There is a 4TB USB drive hooked up to my Shield, formatted as internal storage. Plenty of space. Whenever I click on a future show in the guide, it says something like show cannot be recorded. Was this functionality removed? Am I missing something?

Edit: And before anyone suggests it, I'm not interested in any subscription-based solution like Plex Pass, or using any other software like Kodi. Thanks.

Hi. I really need some screenshots of Spotify for Android TV app, or even better an screen capture video of walkthrough to every bit of it's feature and pages. I will be needing it on my UX design project regarding a Spotify UX Redesign. Basically there's no real screenshots nor screencalture of the app that's available everywhere, not even on Spotify's website or press images. Also those that available are already old and Spotify already slightly updated it Interface since then.

Please anyone that could be bothered for abit and do mean a favor right now, please either just reply me an album to this post or DM it to me. It would help me so much. I'll delete this post if someone's already gave it to me

Is there any ADB command that can tell you information about what OS is device using (androidTV or asop)? Or any other way how to find out?

It was working fine, but now it doesn't recognize my voice anymore. Tried repairing the remote, and it shows it has 83% battery.

Does anyone know where Google Live Channels gets its guide data? One channel near me has no data for some subchannels and I'm wondering who I can contact to see if data can be added. The channel in question is WMJF and everything but 39-1 (Grit) has no information. I'm assuming the OTA EPG information isn't being sent but getting in touch with the company that runs the station seems harder.

Got a weird one - whenever there's a volume change on my receiver it seems like the MiBox gets confuzzled - video freezes, stops/quits.

• receiver is a Sony, and TV is samsung
• occurs on all apps netflix/prime/vlc/kodi
• occurs both when i use the receiver's remote, or turn the physical volume knob on the receiver
• i have installed the 2179 build in the hope of fixing it but yeah the problem also occurs on the latest public build

Every 20-30 mins of watching 4k content in Netflix my mibox will crash and reboot by itself

Any else have this same problem?

I made the decision to grab one of these Shields for playing 4K HEVC files mostly as my TV struggles but am now not sure if I should have rushed into it.

Yes it should play HEVC files but what about the likes of DTS HD?

Also what Dac is reccomend to go inbetween the shield and A Denon-Avrx2200w? I thought at first the Shield had optical and was able to switch between either HDMi or Optical for Audio but I dont believe it does

I only use my TVs speaker(s), so I want stereo and never 5.1/surround. In MiBox settings I have Surround disabled, however when I load into Netflix, it auto defaults to 5.1 audio and I have to manually change it to Normal or else my MiBox's remote wont be able to control the volume. Anyone find a way around this and force stereo sound across the board?

As per title, how does MiBox perform when streaming an HD stream (3000Kpbs up to 8000Kbps) directly in the browser? I watch football games through my browser (the provider I got doesn't have a dedicated app), so I must use any browser (if you have suggestions). My Internet connection is good enough, so don't consider it.

I've been using MX player for a while but sometimes it messes up in Terrarium. I know there's VLC, what's your favorite and why?
