Is there no API in AndroidTV that can receive text input from something like an oral command to Google Assistant?

I can use Google Home to ask by voice my AndroidTV to play YouTube or Netflix. However I often have a need to type text on my Chromecast (be it a browser address, or custom app, or anything).

It would be great if I could say "Ok Google, send "blah blah text" to TV, and it just typed that into whatever field had the focus.

I'm currently doing some platform research for a 4-Player game that I'm developing. I have little experience with the Android TV and would like to hear thoughts from the community on its current gaming landscape. Here are my questions:

Do you play games on it and roughly how often? Which ones? Do you own other consoles? Have you considered gaming with friends? Do you expect any of the above to change in future? Which Android TV device do you currently own?

Do u know any good Air Mouse which have bluetooh and voice control also gyro scope, qwerty keyboard that can be used for mi box?

What would be the best device/method to combining all three of these devices so it can be played on the same headphone/amp combo?

My 3 devices are:

Nvidia Shield, Windows 10 PC, and a PS4 Pro.

My amp as of yet is unpurchased, and I'm open to recommendations based on what will be needed to make this happen.

My MiBox remote is scrolling all the way in whatever direction I put it. I press down, it goes all the way down etc etc. Whats weird, is even my phone is doing it too. I downloaded the Android TV app, and when I press a direction there, it behaves the same way.

I connected a USB mouse and unpaired then repaired the remote, and it still did the same thing. I did a factory reset, still same problem. Replaced batteries, still the same.

I tried turning off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi in surrounding devices, again still same problem. I’m so confused. Any advice?

Known Issues:

• Audio artifact may be heard when pausing content with AAC bitstreamed audio.
• Rare occurrence where update halts (reboot to fix).
• Rare occurrence where network connection lost after 15 minutes.
• Disable IPv6 on your router until patch update available
• Google Play Movies & TV channel appears after reboot, even when removed.

I’m always on the lookout for good apps made by excellent developers. Apps like Haystack and Hopwatch that make good use of the recommendation row. Photo Gallery adds a nice screensaver feature. The PBS app implements material design very well.

Any other unique, well designed apps that stick out from the rest?

I had been using my Nexus Player with a TV in my basement gym that doesn't get a ton of usage (we are a lazy family). I had been using it as a cable box for my HDHomeRun Prime. Ever since the Oreo update it became slow, buggy, and too unstable for even this task. My tech adverse family members couldn't be counted on to constantly troubleshoot and reboot. As a last ditch effort I flashed Lineage OS 14.1 and wow! For my purposes it runs like new again! Only downside is you have to side load Netflix but that isn't very hard, especially with Nexus Root Toolkit.

I received the latest update to android tv core services and now my screen is flashing constantly making it unusable. Uninstall the update and everything is back to normal. Is it me or is anyone getting this issue? This is on a nexus player with Oreo.

So I finally upgraded to an android TV coming from Samsung and got the Sony X900F. I heard/read about the X motion clarity and put the settings accordingly to turn it on (Motion flow set to custom, smoothness on max, and clearness on 1. Also, cinemotion set to high). At first screen went black so I changed the channel and voila everything seemed so much smoother which is great. However, I noticed that when watching the news, the bottom text scroller that shows you other news headlines would intermittently judder. It would start out as a smooth scrolling of text but then suddenly starts lagging and would judder for a good 15 ish seconds before going back to normal smoothness. Is this normal? It doesn't bother me too much but I was just wondering if the TV could be defective or some setting was off..

Update: When turning the tv on, I sometimes get just a black screen.. changing the channel fixes this but I'm wondering if it has to do with the X-Motion Clarity setting since that is what happened right after I first put the setting on? ;/

Was wondering if anyone could recommend an app or a way of connecting to a PPTP or L2TP VPN on an Android TV box, or is it really OpenVPN or connection via router that is the only way to achieve this?

Specific device is an Nvidia shield.

Walmart has been selling MiBox for as low as $59 in the last month at all their stores. Current price nationwide is $64 with dwindling stock on hand.

Normally pricing moves to this extent can lead to conjecture.....either Walmart is closing out a product OR they are eliminating inventory in favor of a more attractive offering.

Xiaomi has quietly refreshed the US MiBox to Oreo AndroidTV and created an enhanced remote to fully implement Google Assistant.

The product will maintain the same model designation and the same SKU as well as return to the original price level.

The 8 Walmart distribution centers in VA will each receive from 1 to 3 40' containers of new MiBox stock. Don't know the exact number of cartons that will fill a container but it certainly approaches a shit-ton of MiBox units.

Containers are to be dispatched from Shanghai to Long Beach shortly.

Mibox hooked to tv, hardrive attached to mibox.

Use vlc to play things using the mibox,

BUT

Use my phone like a tvguide, and pick things for vlc to play on the tv. Not stream, not cast.

Recently installed these and every time we use our shield, within a minute we get a "hgtv has stopped" and "diy has stopped" despite not opening them.

Any idea what's up with those? They in beta or something?

So guys I was just streaming and noticed some unsual buffering so I decided to do a speed test upon doing so the speed test kept using weird servers in russia even though I'm in Pakistan, when I would search the pakistani servers it would show them as being 3000km away which is really weird so I downloaded google maps and saw that my devices location is showing as some where in Russia. This is really strange and I was wondering if this has happened to someone esle or if someone knows how to fix this.

Has anyone tried Prismatik app with lightpack device, preferably on SONY TV? Does it work?
