Help needed for Sony Bravia X5700E. Please refer description.

  1. Can anyone suggest how to improve performance? I recently bought the TV, but it's slow.

  2. What in-built apps can be disabled to improve performance? How to do that?

  3. Are there any advantages by rooting the TV? How to do that?

I have Sony Bravia XE900 Smart TV, Do I need Shield TV?

Am really torn whether to get it or not... I know that the performance difference is huge, but, is it worth paying 179$? And from updates perspective, is it similar or faster than Sony? I can see that Shield is rolling out Oreo update now, where Sony promised that 2017 Smart TVs will get it with no ETA. Note: I have PS4 and Xbox one x.

Mi Box 4k Performance for Streaming Services (MM and Oreo)?

Given the S905X is a sturdy 4k capable SoC, I'm interested to see how the Mi Box has progressed since launch, when it was described as too slow for 4k use. Have recent optimisations improved this? Is it a 4k60fps device for x265 streaming, as intended by AMLogic?

Seeking real-world experience with the device using MM build 1901 or Oreo beta, so we all have a reference point as we migrate to 4k TVs. HDR performance on Oreo would also be of interest.

Is an Nvidia Shield pointless if I don't play games?

Hello guys,

I'm strung between getting either the Mi Box, or the Shield.

Can anyone chime in on what's best for my situation.

I am just a YouTube and sometimes Netflix guy, and that's pretty much it.

However, I do want to be able to watch 4K HDR content which I've seen to be a bit of a complex situation regarding codecs, and what not.

Thanks!

What usb storage do you recommend to expand storage on mibox?

As far as you know mi box have only 8gb internal memory which is not enough to install many apps. I have tried connect my Kingston 32gb usb3.0 to mi box and tried setting it up as internal storage but I got warning about slow speed on my usb.

Since mi box have only usb 2.0 so any suggestion for usb storage. I am thinking about the sandisk cruzer fit which quite small just need to plug and forget. But I worry about its speed.

Kicking the Google bucket first (rant)

This is just a rant, from someone that's been asking for features since one first had an ATV device... ignore at will (I'm used to it).

  • Phones have almost since the time I bought my Shield been able to handle multiple input languages (even at once) while AndroidTV has only been able to handle the system language, without the use of additional hardware and/or apps.
    • This is just not good enough when you consider that a TV is much more likely to be shared by multiple individuals than a phone. (Personally asking for an English UI that can handle English, Danish and Chinese (simplified)... I know an Android phone can do it.
    • ... you have the technology Google.
  • It is impossible to change background and colour theme on AndroidTV
    • We (the users) have been struggling with seeing the active OK/Cancel buttons for ages, finally solved in Oreo. If this feature had existed from the beginning, this wouldn't even have been a big issue.
    • Being able to change the background image is not a threat to your UI monopoly.
    • ... you have the technology Google.
  • The requirements to apps for the platform has changed 3 to 5 times for developers wanting to make apps that are full members of the AndroidTV ecosystem
    • While it's already difficult enough to get smaller software houses to go beyond Chromecast support.
    • ... you can do better Google.
  • From the beginning there's been people asking for some sort of remote access to the system
    • not necessarily to be able to play the same output on multiple monitors/TVs, perhaps just to be able to reconfigure the apps behind the scenes while our children are watching Peppa Pig on YouTube
      • (Even though mirroring to Cromecasts and phones would be super cool) Besides... Google already has its own remote desktop protocol (sic).
    • ... you have the technology Google.
  • Why do I have to feel like a 3rd rank customer because I need sideloads?

    • Chromecast is AndroidTVs main competitor... I know Google doesn't want ALL Android apps on the front page, but why the fuck do I need 3rd party apps to put sideloads there? If I actively choose to have a sideload show on the front page, I may have a reason for that, and I may be willing to use my right joy or airmouse to make it work. Ignoring this whole segment is a mistake IMHO.
    • (Besides, there are entire app-stores in China offering (hacked) d-pad friendly apps, because of Chinese IPTV laws)
    • Same as above but about Oreo channels...
      • Others have the technology that you specified Google.
  • Apps:

    • If I fire up (sideloaded) Flightradar24, for instance, location services are not shared with it.
      • why even claim that AndroidTV is even part of the Android environment?
    • With Oreo coming up, with all its channel exposures, was your intention really to show generic lists to the users, rather than their personalized content?
      • you have the data Google (we know it), if you're anyway going to monitor us, you may as well do better at using it in our favor.

In my opinion there are so many important things to focus at, but because big G want phones and TV's along the same path, we're forced to follow, even tho Google doesn't even back-port the simplest of requests to TV.

Edit: I have a humble request, tell me why I'm wrong instead of just a down vote... I don't mind where the votes will end, but I am trying to get a proper debate.

Netflix - channel available for Shield but not NP?

So all the shots of the Nvidia Shield's 8 update shows that Netflix has a channel in the launcher.

How do we still not have this on Nexus Player devices? Is it that the Netflix app is a different version on Shield?

Weird Audio Startup Delay

Howdy Im hoping anyone can help me fix this annoying issue.

First, to be clear, this is not lag or desync from audio to video.

When I select a movie or show or youtube video or any media on any platform (youtube, netflix, showbox, stored media, etc) the video plays and the audio does not. It takes the audio anywhere from 5-500 seconds to kick in, and when it does its perfectly synced to the video.

Anyone experience this or know a fix?

Thanks in advance

Ziggo GO on Android TV, looking for APK

Hi all,

I'm looking for the Android TV Ziggo GO app, it does not appear in my play store, probably because I don't have a Dutch account, so long for the geo unblocking EU rule. Do you guys have the APK to share by any chance? I've got a subscription with Ziggo, I'm not trying to steal content, only to watch TV

Thanks GM

Certain Netflix shows not kicking tv in HDR mode-Shield

Using a Shield. I noticed from just random testing, Stranger Things and 13 Reasons Why both have the HDR flag in Netflix, but when played they do not kick the TV into HDR mode. Other shows, like say Altered Carbon, do turn on HDR mode. I also tested in Amazon, and every show there seems to be working. Ive tried restarting the Shield and TV but no change. Is this a Netflix issue, a Shield issue, or my TV?

Raspberry pi 3

Anyone get Android TV to successfully run on a pi 3? I got the OS running but it couldn't download anything. I did a Wireshark capture of the traffic and it seems to be going to the right place (74.125.225.72), but nothing downloads.

Has anyone had success?

Thinking of buying a Shield, will this work?

Been considering buying a Shield since the original came out, I've had a Nexus player since launch so fairly familiar with the OS.

I currently run two windows based Plex servers, one at another location with good internet and another at my home. Presently the two synchronise content with Resillio Sync (BT Sync) and I watch things at home locally from the local server.

My thoughts are to replace the local PC with a Shield Plex server to reduce power consumption and improve the experience of browsing media on my Smart TV.

So I need a way to sync the data from a remote Windows machine to an external drive connected to a shield, I assume you can't just sideload Resillio Sync?

Anyone used syncthing to this? External drive is 6tb and average file size is probably 6gb with largest being around 30gb.

Question about Android TV boxes

I got the Nexus Player a while back. I honestly don't really use it much. It's basically a 5th backup in my house. I am looking to get a streaming music service like Spotify or Google Play Music, both which happen to be on Android TV. A couple of questions though . Do Android TV boxes slow down over time like Android phones do? This has to pass the "spouse test" and work with minimal issues or moving from Roku isn't going to happen.

I'd probably get the Shield if I did buy it. Also, what's the future of Android TV? It doesn't seem like anybody really talks about it. Makes me worry that apps and services will go there or not or if they do, don't get updated very much. Although, ironically enough, it looks like Android TV currently has the most of the apps that I would want, besides Amazon Prime Video...which I understand can be side-loaded.

My other option is a Fire TV, which I know is a fork of Android anyways but different app store. That also seems to have all the apps as well, besides Google stuff but I have seen videos of side-loading those as well. Fire TV boxes are half the price of the Shields so that's a thought as well and the Fire TVs seem to be at the top of the conversation when talking about streaming boxes next to Roku and Apple TV.

anywho, just a bunch of incoherent questions and thoughts here. what do you all think?

Having problems with black screen on mibox's youtube? Here's the solution.

I have an annoying problem on my youtube, sometimes after a video I'll get a black screen and the video wont load, sometimes it's solved by changing the video quality manually, other times only a youtube's restart will solve. Guess what? I found a final solution for this sh*t:

Just get SmarthYoutubeTV: https://github.com/yuliskov/SmartYouTubeTV/releases/

You can use the older design or the shitty new one. I think it's still a web-wrapper, but the blank screen is basically gone, also you can stream on 4k (don't know if you can in the original youtube, since I don't really care for 4k content).
